Why the quotes? his criticism of the budget process and how reserves are used are the thing Rennick is most correct on. His problem is he obviously has an axe to grind with the city and comes off as an old curmudgeon. So, his best points get lost in an ocean of noise.
Well, I Don’t agree. I worked at Algoma Steel, in 15 different departments, ( 2251 ), and there was Not One Job, assigned to me, that I couldn’t do. Or did I ever see or hear of another female employee, not able to pull their own weight. But the Men, on the other hand…. LOL…
What is the expressed purpose of the reserve fund? Is it not an emergency fund? High water bills and high tipping fees are not emergencies nor are $100K annually for the ski hill. Pay these bills out of the budget if you have to or just raise taxes. We perpetually pay more taxes than necessary for council to have a slush fund with no rules that makes out of the blue spending decisions. Premier Ford just raised the hydro rebate to 23% on your bill because Ont Hydro raised your rate by 29%, it's being paid by your provincial taxes you pay .
Get down to ONE board everywhere and start making boards focus on education not politics...as for Aspin, good riddance; I'm sure some new patronage appointment will come your way soon.
Good article... but I'd frame it that it's not the $650k bike-lane plowing fight… it's the bill arriving for years of deferrals.Councils everywhere defer to look more responsible… overpromise, underplan, and push the boring essential work aside for the next shiny new object. Cam/council aren’t cutting ribbons on sewer relining lol...Canada has a $200+ billion infrastructure deficit ... every deferred repair eventually becomes a crisis line item.... And a "build it now, figure out maintenance later" doesn't help... This winter’s fight is just the latest reminder that the math always catches up, no matter how good the intentions...
You seem like a reasonable person ...I'll leave this here.https://flatbike.com/blogs/cyclist/snow-plow-bike?srsltid=AfmBOoqHmDRN0CPT5003GgrpCqsczW9U4jSCo37E1xhu2Q0RuatHKwTE
Finally Vic gets involved. When things are not working how long does government wait? Now keep up the momentum. When the headlines are indicating the taxpayers are not happy government should step in soon than later. This goes for many situations at many levels of government. Listen to the people that voted you in. This could be a cry from a pensioners that was done wrong by a CrownCorporation, a health care patient, a nursing home resident, a student, a parent of a student, someone using public transportation…. This is our elected officials job in government to make sure things are working for the people and most importantly in a fair economical manner. Our elected officials need to step it up and listen to the taxpayers in their riding. Stop passing the buck and start representing and not just when it benefits you as an elected official.
