What a great example of an organization connecting with a population, identifying a need and taking steps to make things better. It’s unfortunate that they have been faced with cost overruns, but hopefully the community will continue to support those in need.

You believe that the people who serve the needy in your community should be paid less?

It’s mind-boggling that this issue can be on the agenda, brought forward by city staff, but issues related to homelessness get punted forward on the calendar, and action is just delayed and delayed. There are already laws In place. Police can enforce them. Attempting to craft a new bylaw and adding rules upon rules will inevitably lead to another lawsuit for the city. Just stop.

@Canadam, that last line! Thanks for the laugh!

@Disappointed - perhaps you could have kept that opinion to yourself. No one needs to be told how to grieve, and there is no indication that any public funds are being considered for this project.

I’m not sure why anyone would be shocked that the GM of Guelph Transit would choose to leave, either to retire, or to accept a better job elsewhere. We’ve seen over and over that Guelph is not committed to improving transit (and this doesn’t apply only to sitting council). Big ideas never come to fruition, and when it’s time to make budget cuts, transit is always on the chopping block. That the City can’t comment on personnel matters should come as no surprise, and the future plans of a now ex-employee are really none of our business.

Paul, I agree with you. I can think of several newer buildings in Burlington that included commercial on the ground floor. The small businesses housed there create a nice sense of community for building residents, as well as their neighbours. I’m sure this would be appreciated in this new development as well.

If Guelph were serious about hitting their targets, they would fix our transit system. Getting across the city just takes too long. Want to get cars off the roads? Make a transit system that’s convenient to use, both within the city and inter-city. That’s the only way to reduce traffic congestion and get some cars off the road in Guelph.

What kind and generous people Hitesh and Kirtida are. We are fortunate to have them in our community!

Also could have put the 3 billion dollars the government spent issuing $200 “rebate cheques” a little more wisely. Those dollars, and the money about to be spent on an unnecessary election in Ontario, could have had a very big impact across the province.
