Wow, what happened to voicing an opinion, and possibly free speech? Mr. Kinach is obviously trying to bring to light the excessive use and excessive cost of outside consultants. He is trying to mitigate tax levy increases. Why are our city civil engineers, civil technicians, and other city staff unable to design ideas and solutions to various issues, as opposed to farming it out? If they are incapable of doing this, why do we have them in the first place? Save the money, and use it to pay the consultants.Mayor Shoemaker has certainly decided to take the the soft and easy road about this.
Chippewa County voted for the current president who has only one agenda... to be the leader of the world at any cost (trump said that in an interview, easy to look up.) That cost includes Canadian jobs, goods, and services. Many that Sault Ontario currently provides to the USA. When these jobs disappear here at home, don't be the first to complain about our city as falls on to hard times. This at least makes a point and hope folks spend their money in Canada. Every little bit helps.... this is a four of the mixed messages from the president before his term ends.
You are so right... though we can't stop the health care benefits, maybe make it less worth while to be in the USA. Should be supporting the country that pays your way through your tax dollars.... not theirs! The USA government seems unstable with its' ever changing & daily autocratic decisions. Soon to come a head tax on foreign tourists? Why go there? Support your Canada.
Funny how a certain a Portage Ave restaurant owner was whining the blues for Canadians to return. Chippewa county voted over 70% for the current president. Even before this mess, few Soo Mich. citizens patronized our Canadian businesses. Remember, their Walmart & Meijer stores were not built to be fully supported by a village of 12,000 + Soo Mich. residents.Too bad what has happened and the continuing fallout and job losses on both sides due to a very broken government. Things will Never be the same, a permanent resentment has been created between two former allies and neighbours, that are now just sharing a border now.I guess they were not too careful for what they voted for, considering past history.
They are/were paid to go to work at a specific location when hired..... so do so! The pandemic is long past. If employees find this now an issue to attend their assigned work station, then time to find another employer who will accommodate working at home.
Well You never saw many Michigan plates shopping in Sault Canada before Trump. Having talked with a few local Sault Michigan residents about a year ago, most had not been to our side in years. Go figure? Now they are worried. Remember, Chippewa County voted for Trump, so I guess they can have a taste of the medicine that trump is handing out to hurt us themselves as well. They typically never patronized our businesses locally, so I am not too sorry about the wrath and hostility their own president is causing for them. If it is good enough for Canada, your supposed best ally, then it is good enough for the Americans too. You voted for him...take your lumps like the rest.
Mr. Da Prat is doing far more harm than good. It seems he has a personal bone to grind because he is one of the unfortunate people to be derostered. I believe the union relinquish GHC years ago. Would union money not be better spent trying to collectively finding solutions, than going to court wasting lots of money. It would seem that Mr Da Prat's action will only cause 1) possible closure of GHC 2) why would any new MD join a facility tied up in legal issues 3) why come to SSM period to practice medicine. Thank you Mr Da Pratt for your wisdom, though very short sighted.
Yes scrap the unused bike lanes. These bikers do not pay road tax nor have insurance... but demand these nuisance lanes that snarl traffic and are seldom used. Time for a reality check!
And you want folks to start returning downtown when all this stuff goes on and on and on? It is to the point, at times your vehicle may not be safe in back lots. Let alone the unusualfolk who bang on your window for money. Seems all this new security is not working too well. The last four times down Queen a total of ONE person at the plaza. The DTA has a bigger road to hoe that it ever anticipated to restore customer safety and trust in getting people back downtown.
Unless tourists come to see our mine field crater trails and subsequent patch work quilt that are supposed to be roads? Or the sheer amount of run down buildings, boarded up buildings, empty retail space everywhere, unkempt properties (privately owned and city owned) uncut and full of weeds and garbage in the summer season. Or the unusual folks that congregate on Queen Street, and the big Welcome that locked shop doors on Queen Street sends out. Yep, not on the top of too many folks list as a place to visit.
Lots of money spent where no one seems to go, or wants to go. Went downtown yesterday at 9:10 am, nobody there, at noon, still nobody there. Such a waste, the dead zone will have a new road. Maybe better spent money in the new city center, Great Northern, to allow better flow of traffic, especially for emergency vehicles. Money better spent up there, where business is happening than the Queen Street where doors are locked, unusual people hang out, store fronts are derelict and empty, weeds grow in front of stores and posts. Not much happening down there any longer and continues to look increasingly shabby and run down.
When will the unreliable, flickering power supply be dealt with by PUC? With one EAF in operation, what will happen when the second EAF comes on line? There seems to be little progress building of the new transmission line north of 3rd line. Should we expect brown outs if this is not corrected soon? What about sensitive electronic devices that are affected by these voltage fluctuations. So one should expect our lights will flicker pretty much all the time? (Until remediation is done?) Pretty sad for what we pay here per Kwh, and smart meter gouging.
You guys keep delaying and do next to nothing! Trump plays hardball and does not care. The more Canada dekays, the more Trump knows we are a push over. Time to get real, and rattle Trump's cage good and hard. Give him a dose of his own.
Hope you remember not to spend your money in Sait Mich.... they voted for this president....let them too feel the pain his nonsense is causing. If the president thinks it is good to happen to us, then it is goodenough to happen to the Americans as well.
One thing this article and research missed, what is buffering the impact and of the loss of Canadian spending in Sault Michigan is the fact that there is a large compliment of construction workers from out of town working on the locks project. Many of the small motel/hotels are booked for these workers, and they spend locally in the Michigan Sault. Prices in Sault Michigan are way up from a year ago, couple that with $6.30 ($12.60 return) Canadian one way for bridge and 38% to 40% exchange negates much, if any savings. One article I priced was $9.79 here Canadian dollars...... online price, in stock in Sault Michigan, exact same thing was $9.49 USA dollars. So actually more expensive there than here, for a US made article.
