As stated in your article "Seventy-two per cent of all Guelph collisions occur at intersections, it continues. Half of all injuries to pedestrians occurred while a driver attempted to turn left." Wouldn't red light cameras be more effective in assisting in these actually occurring accidents rather than the fear mongering ones that are constantly pushed? People aren't typically driving over 40km turning left and schools are not located at intersections either so if public safety is the primary concern especially children at school what is happening?? Who are these decision makers PLEASE START MAKING SENSE!!! It just feels like a cash grab!If you REALLY want to help keep kids safe at schools have an automatic ticket camera for the parents who literally drop their kids off in the no parking zones during kid drop off and pick ups that block almost all visibility at the school crosswalks!

If you would like homes to not sit vacant then start holding squatters and delinquent non paying tenants to account! When all levels of government use fear as their motivation for everything why do you think the risk of renting to a potential professional tenant or having to deal with thousands of dollars in property damage would be any different? No one actually wants to take a loss, a good amount of people are simply hedging their bets. We certainly didn't have these issues when this wasn't a common headline in the news! Also how dare you tell people what to do with there homes when there is little to no recourse for when things go wrong!!

The complete lack of logic and predictability on our streets has us watching for signs rather than pedestrians. With the sheer volume of signs, cameras, different styles of walkways, bike lights and lanes and each city has their own version of vision zero, I find you can't possibly be able to understand or interpret half of what you are driving into even at 40km per hour. We need to drastically simplify our roads for all that use it!

Yes Erin, bad behaviour returns once they move on to another school, this is because your policies are bad. As I stated before you cannot validate adding more speed cameras in school zones when the evidence supports most accidents are occurring at left hand turns in intersections. If counsel wants us to get on board with road safety then your policies need to be based on real facts & are easy to adopt & predict! Our roads today are anything but clear or predictable. An example could be - 30km roads - residential/school areas, mixed use 40km, commercial area 50km & highways & roads leaving the city 60+km. Everyone would know what to do & based on the surroundings the speed would become 2nd nature. Today nobody can possibly know or predict what speed to drive which results in good drivers getting fines. Our roads & intersections are becoming increasingly narrowed, cluttered, confusing & DISTRACTING. If this is all about speed safety what is the avg speed in a left hand turn collision?
