You can't trade constitutional rights to end homelessness

We should not allow people to squat wherever they wish. The residents of the city should have the right to move unencumbered through the public spaces of the city. It is incumbent upon the city to work to provide affordable housing for the unhoused. It seems that squatting and otherwise occupying public places has become the preferred method of trying to force governments to bend to the will of activists all over the country.

The stated purpose of speed camera use was to reduce driving speed in the affected areas. Data would indicate that the use of speed cameras was effective. I am sorry to see them go.

Choosing someone from Brampton to be the Guelph MP? It seems that the Conservative Party has already written off any chance that the people of Guelph might vote for a Conservative candidate from Guelph. Too bad.

I shake my head at the realization that when I moved to Guelph in 1970, there were two (2) hospitals for 50,000 residents. Now we have one (1) hospital for three times as many residents with no plans whatsoever for improving the situation. I must assume that another hospital is not a priority for the people in charge.

Interesting. The only blood that was shed during this election was at the hands of....wait for it.... a Democrat?

These smash and grab attacks continue to occur with ever increasing frequency. And why not? They are extremely effective and practically risk free. We almost never hear about the capture of these offenders, and we all know that the offenders will be back on the street the next day to re-offend.

In other words, the unions are demanding more power, more money, and more union members. Same old, same old.

It is depressing to continually read about a driver being charged with impaired driving who is already facing trial for impaired driving as well as failure to show up at court for the previous charge. You know that they will be released to wait for a trial, and that they have absolutely no intention of attending.

It is not exactly news, but the story does confirm the reality about politicians and their handling of other people's money. Just an indication of what will happen if and when they get their hands on our tax dollars.

Do you not consider that children use school playgrounds when the schools are closed for summer break? There are no crossing guards in the summer. Lift your foot up off the accelerator pedal.

I think that receiving an automated phone call advising that your account has been compromised should be the first indication that things are not on the level. At least once a week I receive one of these automated calls from Microsoft, the bank, Visa Security, the Federal Government, and others advising me that my bank accounts, Social Insurance number, credit cards, etc. are all in jeopardy. Just hang up, please.

It seems that EVERY city project completion date has to be pushed back due to weather and unforseen complexities. Wouldn't it be really special if contingencies were added to the construction plans, instead of expecting zero rain and zero surprises underground? In the private sector, the project delivery date is NEVER allowed to be missed. When working for the city, there are no consequences for late delivery and major inconveniences for the public. And don't forget the added bonus of demanding more money from the city because the project had cost overruns.

I can't comment about the speed of the work being done. I will say that I, and about fifteen other motorists behind me really didn't enjoy sitting through the entire traffic light cycle while some selfish woman in her Lexus held up all traffic while she was waiting to make her illegal left turn onto southbound Gordon Street. Thank you so much lady. Would have liked to see one of Guelph's finest on duty at the intersection at that time.

How does having some municipalities being part of more than one conservation authority make any sense? Are these towns now required to satisfy the requirements of more than one conservation authority in order to get anything accomplished?

Our recycling bin was scheduled for pickup Saturday. It has been sitting on the boulevard since Friday afternoon. It is still there today. I don't think that it is an attractive lawn ornament.

Justina was angry that his mommy won't quietly agree to spend more money than previously agreed, so he fired her. A real Feminist, unless a woman disagrees with him.

Perhaps you can open up your own Canadian shop if you are unhappy with the "Americanization of Canada".

Municipalities are saddled with the responsibility for dealing with waste, including disposable cups. I think that fact makes it clear that the municipality has the right to dictate the kind of cups used in restaurants.

People are concerned about public accountability if the Province assumes control over the conservation authorities. I have wondered about the accountability of the people who are currently in charge of the authorities now. If the citizens are not in agreement with policies and actions of the authorities now, who can they go to? Some of the members of conservation authorities are appointed. By whom are they appointed, and by what means can they be removed if their job performance is deemed unacceptable by local residents? At least the Minister of the Environment and their boss has to stand for re-election every four years
