LETTER: Latest police investigation a witch hunt: former chief

Mark…in how many of those cases, many of which were re investigated 2,3 and 4 times was initial result found to be incorrect? The answer would be none. I’m curious if you’d like an investigation as to why nearly 500 people have needed to be saved out of that river by cops and firefighters who risked their lives to save them? If First Nation leadership really cared they’d be looking to figure that out.

Love it. Keep building and ignore the complaints from the peanut gallery

Mr. Wilson, while your stats regarding homeless individuals who are indigenous is accurate you intentionally or unknowingly ingnore that many of these individuals came here with no housing and become the cities responsibility according to some. This needs to be addressed as we cannot be responsible as a city. We also need to talk about the individuals who have been BCR’d (band council resolution) which kicks members out of their First Nation for various reasons and they are not allowed back. Those individuals come here and again have no where to go. The only way any progress can be made on these issues is if everyone is able to have conversations based on all the facts not just the ones that help a particular side or viewpoint

When an individual provides examples and facts in support of an argument and all your able to do is accuse him of “limited intelligence” and a baseless accusation of a privileged upbringing you make it very obvious who lacks intelligence between the two of you.

Glad to hear the boy is going to be ok. The idea that something needs to be done is a little silly. Your fully aware a golf course is right there, of course the chances of something like this happening are extremely remote and the idea that all sorts of protections need to be implemented at a course that has operated for decades under the current setup is silly.

I understand that paramedics have dealt with assaults against themselves but to make the statement that they face the same dangers as police is laughable. Yes they respond to the same call but they only enter the scene once police or fire have dealt with the situation. I’m sure their are some examples where that has not been the case but 99.9% of the time they are not dealing with anywhere near the same level of danger and to make that claim is an insult to what police and to a lesser extent firefighters deal with

Isn’t it interesting how tbnewswatch frames certain events. It ends the article stating that a separate officer was found for guilty for assault for punching an intoxicated indigenous male but in this incident no race is reported…..why is the race reported in one instance and not the other? Seems again like a certain narrative is being pushed by the media

Call the whambulance. These businesses will be fine. It’s just the typical loud whining crowd in tbay who represent a small minority of people. Welcome to the rest of the world where it costs some money to park

Is anyone else wondering how this article came about? This is definitely not standard practice for media to reach out to city employees who have resigned. Also incredibly disingenuous to not provide context to the limb falling on a vehicle, that limb fell as a result of a massive wind storm that rolled through town. Whats the agenda or personal connection here?

The guy living in a tent on Riverview for 1.5 years has a cell phone and barbecue….also has turned down indoor housing multiple times….how come no one in the media asks why that’s allowed?

Absolute insanity being proposed here. This is not a municipal responsibility!!!! Many people are coming here with no where to live. A massive failure by both the provincial and federal governments (the feds are responsible for on reserve housing and because of decades of failure our city is dealing with that failure) the funny thing is we have a provincial cabinet minister and a federal cabinet minister from our city both of whom have done absolutely zero on this issue.

Thank god this guy was soundly defeated last election. He doesn’t have a clue. Spend the money once? Are you kidding me, no where in the world has anyone ever solved homelessness, it has existed for as long as there have been people on earth. The LPH is owned by the province and it is now illegal to involuntarily commit someone to a facility unless a judge allows it, you can’t force someone to help themselves. First Nations have largely washed their hands of the issue once their people end up in Thunder Bay without a place to stay and our local federal minister of indigenous services has been silent, our other provincial minister Kevin Holland has never found an issue he’s not happy giving no comment on and that co timers here. Weak leadership in all 3 levels of government locally at the moment. The onus is on the province and the feds with this issue.

So this is a new issue for Hajdu and she’s not aware of there is federal funding available? Seriously? We know 80% of homeless are indigenous, she’s the federal indigenous minister……did anyone ask her what she’s done to this point, which is clearly zero. At least powlowski has the guts to actually take a position, the relationship between those two is hilarious, her ego rivals trumps

The cop(s) should be able to sue this guy for putting them through an investigation. Probably doesn't have much but I'm getting so sick of cops being punching bags for criminals.

The property is large, the problem is only a fool would want to take on the asbestos filled decaying beyond repair lph building. The demolition of that building would be 10’s of millions of dollars. Why would the city take on that liability?

This is crazy that this “issue” is being given coverage. This exact bins are used all over the province and country…….are we pretending that somehow we have some extraordinary circumstances that other communities don’t? Please stop making this a story

Here’s taxes once again misleading people about the state of city infrastructure to serve his own purposes. Maybe next election you’ll finally learn the voting public sees through your misdirection, time for a new strategy

Everywhere else in the world it costs money to park. Why should tbay be any different?
