Stephan Kinach is a good young man and his speaking up should not have resulted in any discipline, but he had requested the Integrity Commission oversight. The Integrity ruling was borderline and incorrect, but once administered, he had 2 choices, and chose not to apologize. The verbal reprimand is a slap on the wrist only. The message forward is for Stephan to keep challenging the norms, and financial decisions, and work on behalf of our community best interests, but do so professionally abiding by the code of conduct rules that were enacted in 2018. For 60+ years, NA steel industry has been decimated by foreign steel, affecting USWA jobs, reducing American steel production from number 1 in the world to 5th. China, India, Japan, and others have undercut our supply, they employ low cost labour. We need a level playing field. In Canada, steel mills are owned by foreign countries, such as Cleveland Cliffs own Stelco, Arcelor Dofasco owned by India, and Algoma Steel by American investors. Evraz owned by Russia. Tenaris owned by Brazil. It is a national security threat to have reliance of steel by others. USS Corporation was about to sell to Nippon in Japan, until Trump intervened. There will be exemptions to tariffs in Canada. In the case of Algoma Steel, we make high-quality military plate for the US. Trump’s last term, he did not tariff Algoma. We need to stop fear mongering. 28% carbon tax crippling families over climate change hoax, while Trudeau whines about tariffs. Who is the biggest threat to Canadians? It’s our government.

Why the sudden interest and concern over loss of employment in the Sault?Why wasn’t this Liberal government employment plan not recognized and embedded into the taxpayer $500 million loan? It would appear that finally the Liberal government is feeling the effects of public pressure and taking some accountability rather than deflecting blame elsewhere. The carbon and climate hysteria has created job losses locally while enhancing big business owners who profit from green energy initiatives, such as Mark Carney’s investments in Brookfield. They are moving carbon footprint out of Algoma Steel and creating carbon emissions with natural gas fired turbines and manufacturing of DRI and HBI for the EAF, but at a different location. Not that carbon contributes to climate change or global warming, but Canada contributes less than 1.5% to world carbon emissions, and taxing businesses and Canadians for it is a Ponzi scheme.

Sheehan, really?The Liberals caused this, along company execs and BoD’s who have been pocketing bonuses, and are still deflecting blame, and will never will admit it was a bad decision to run the Blast Furnace and Coke Ovens into the ground and fund green steel propaganda. The EAF is backed by billions$ of taxpayer’s dollars, only to cause mass layoffs in this facility affecting our community. They put all their eggs in one basket, now want to point fingers. Instead of PM Carney negotiating with the US, he spends his time running commercials with Doug Ford to undermine tariffs. The steel markets are very volatile in good times, but this loss of employment was well known as part of the transition toward melting scrap. It is a devastating reality for the employees who will be affected by loss of employment at Algoma, as well as all service providers, causing considerable strain on our community.
