The only thing I'd trust Land-is-broken guttersnipe PP to do is continue to screech, hop up and down, and fling mud. The man and everything he stands for has nothing substantive to offer we citizens.
Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it.Trump and his billionaire cohorts are really not out for you and me. Power an wealth are far too concentrated at the top. The best person for the job was Bernie Sanders, but now he needs a succession plan and to name an heir apparent. Meanwhile, Trump and his cabal will wreak havoc. Empirically, objectively and by all measurable criteria, we was a terrible President. Who knew that malignant narcissists tuck in an 80s economical mindset could be so destructive. We live in a global supply and demand world and, coming out of COVID demand outstripped supply and prices skyrocketed, propped up by corporate greed/shareholder profits. Our oligarchical systems are unsustainable. Arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic by putting someone like Trump in charge who's only interest is in destroying the deck chairs then basking in your adulation ain't gonna change a thing. Addressing the wealth/power concentration is the only way.
Yep. Read Project 2025, it's all there.More concentration of wealth and power, getting rid of all those pesky regulations, and generally going backwards and continually refusing to adapt to the 21st century in a universe where change is the only constant and those who adapt survive. Sounds good, what could go wrong?
Shopping local - 100 "mile" eating - is always a best practice. It's better for your neighbours, better for your community, better for your planet. The US notwithstanding, we need to ask ourselves: "Do I really need that 'thing' that's in America or China today on my doorstep tomorrow? What are the consequences of such consumerism? Is there really no local alternative?"
That's what grifters/pathological liars/malignant narcissists do. He's a symptom, the American electorate is the disease and they got the government they deserve.
@sclEvery time he speaks. Does he lift people up? Does he make a substantive policy argument? Does he advocate bold plans to help the middle class and the poor? All he does is fling mud. He casts aspersions, he tears people down, he points fingers and assigns blame. He spews character assassinations. I'm so done with that brand of hateful politics that caters to the lowest common denominator. That's not leadership or vision, it's simply mudslinging.
It's fascinating watching people cut off their noses to spite their faces and voting over the price of eggs and pwning da libz. Ya, Trump resonated with the commoners, but that billionaire is about to make things worse for them. As I said, fascintating.
"Carbon taxes are effective at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and are considered the most efficient way to combat climate change. Carbon taxes make low-carbon energy more affordable than high-carbon energy.Encourage reduced use of carbon: Carbon taxes encourage people to use less carbon-containing fuel.Create certainty for investors: Carbon taxes encourage investment in clean technologies and the development of new ones.Examples of carbon tax successIn the UK, emissions in the electricity sector fell by 73% between 2012 and 2018 after the country increased carbon rates. In British Columbia, carbon pricing reduced emissions by 5–15%.
It is an Oligarchy. We citizens have zero say on policy, monied interests have bought governments all over the world. The only way it can change is if we all vote for a party that invests in us. NDP or Green. Cons and Liberals are two sides of the same corrupt coin.
@ Foxey BridgieYou used these words in your response, derisively and resentfully: "woke", "joy tolerance inclusion", "leftists", "arrogant", "divisive hatred", "groupthink".Less than 50% of the American electorate voted for the billionaire who "gets it". That means more than 50% wanted someone else. There are many reasons why some of us believe that he and his cronies have no interest in perpetuating their own power and helping no one but themselves. And it's absolutely a logical assumption that many harbour the same resentments you apparently do so are voting "against" your fellow citizens. I invite you to ponder the roots of your resentments.
@ Colleen BurtonA) I'm in Guelph, and 2) do your independent research and apply some critical thinking, the BBC has a great article. Trump does whatever the Heritage Foundation wants, that record is clear. Project 2025 employs over 200 former Trump administration officials and its foreword was written by Vance. But nothing to see here, because Trump says so. Because he's so honest. Ya, conspiracy, amirite?
The Fourth Estate used to have a sacred duty: informing the electorate in as objective a way as was possible. With the advent of mass media and 24 hour news cycles coupled with the shifting of independently-owned local news to corporately owned corporate conglomerates, the sacred duty shifted from informing the electorate to maximizing shareholder profits. They sell clicks and advertising to generate revenue. They don't offer news as a result, the algorithms tell them that the angrier we are, the more we click and the more money we make. It's a positive feedback loop. They sensationalize and pit us one against the other, and they make money by making us angry enough to keep clicking. They have abandoned moral responsibility to obedience to corporate masters. It's a sad, globally systemic, malignant paradigm.
Resentment is on the upswing, as per the response to your post. They don't take away from the truth of what you say, however. There are clear declines in education and critical thinking. Trump famously professed his love for the poorly educated, and Churchill famously said that "the best argument against Democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter" for a reason.
@ EvelynS, the facts do not support the fentanyl/criminals/border narrative. Canada maybe accounts for less than 1% of the issues the Americans are claiming. Their main issue is that they're a failed state, they have failed their own citizens.
