'I'll never roll over': Ford and Trump both vow strength ahead of trade meeting

Unfortunately the precedent was set by the Harper government when they allowed Conrad Black to return to Canada even though he was a felony and had renounced his Canadian citizenship because Prime Minister Chrétien would not allow him to sit in the British House of Lords. Why was Lord Conrad allowed back in after his jail time in the US? Because he was a big Conservative supporter and the type loved by the Cons. A Con for a Con.

If Vic so values the train, then why has it taken this long for its return? The promise was the train would be back before the end of the first Conservative mandate (2022). Now it may not be operational until the end of the second mandate. Vic also said during the first term that the ONR did not have enough equipment to run a passenger service, that the Liberals sold off the track south of North Bay as well as selling the track used in Union Station. The ONR has enough conventional equipment to run passenger service now. The Liberals could not sell off track south of North Bay as CN owns that line. The tracks at Union Station are owned by Metrolinx, so who would a Liberal government have sold the track to? Hopefully the new trains will revitalize passenger service and that government pushes the train as an alternative to driving, thus alleviating congestion on the roads and pollution in the air.

Many of these people also have mental health issues. The biggest mistake was closing the psychiatric hospital and not replacing those beds at NBRHC. Maybe the city should ask the provincial government to rebuild the psych hospital.

Hey Vic. You want an infrastructure project? How about rebuilding the psychiatric hospital? There are so many people who need help and have nowhere to go. Biggest mistake made was closing the hospital in favour of a superjail that never was built. Thanks Mike Harris. Your “legacy” goes on.

A big problem is where are all the handguns coming from? Our governments need to come up with a strategy of keeping handguns out of Canada. I’m sure plenty of guns come from the US and then funnelled about. It seems the bad guys are always one step ahead of the law. I hope this shooting is not the start of “handgun season” here. Watch Toronto news and almost everyday there is a shooting or stabbing. Violence is getting out of control and the governments and legal system need to put the hammer down and tell the bleeding hearts to sit down and zip it.

When Harris created four boards, the public schools were funded much more than the separate schools. Instead of bringing the separate boards up to the level of the public schools, he brought down the public boards to the same level as separate schools. Public boards simply could not cope with this funding. Up until the mid 1980’s, separate school supporters saw their education portion of the tax bill go to public schools. Was that fair? No it wasn’t and it was Premier Davis who rectified it. Bill Davis was voted as the second best premier in Ontario. Do you really think that if the government amalgamated the schools into English and French boards, there would be savings? If there are, that money will not be reinvested in education. That’s free money for the government. Who will run the boards? I’ve heard many public schools supporters say the separate boards should be in charge as they know how to do more with less resources. Thank Harris for dividing the pie into four.

The problem regarding the level of nurses is not a new one. This goes back to the Harris government which fired thousands of nurses, declaring they were “obsolete like the hula hoop”. Subsequent governments did nothing to alleviate this problem. I know US states were thrilled by the influx of Canadian nurses. Ironically, Mr. Harris and his wife own a nursing service! Talk about salt in a wound.

Yup. Trump said if we didn’t stem the flow of fentanyl, he would levy tariffs on Canada. We have put in the necessary measures, but still not good enough for Putin’s biggest fan. Might as well stop policing the border and let the fentanyl and any illegal migrants cross into Amurica.

If only we had industry or factories or auto plants (when Honda was going to set up shop here and pay for roads, hydro in exchange for a 10 year break on tax, which the brilliant minds at city hall said no. Toyota too, was looking here) that would have provided a strong tax base and large revenue for the city and thus lower taxes for us. How is it a 1.5 million home in Toronto pays the same property as a home that is 1/3 the value here in North Bay? Industrial tax base.

Teachers have no say regarding bus cancellations. The buses are handle by a separate entity that is not controlled by school boards. This group decides at 5:00 am and bases their decision on what the weather maps are showing.
