OPINION: Downtown Guelph is ready for Instagram, but not for people

A play area for whom? What are the insurance ramifications when kids get hurt and the city has lawsuits? Shake your heads council and staff !!!

Urban Park for a new hospital is not right. It is too close to GGH and the north end. It needs to be closer to the Claire Road area but the city has used up all of its land sine the Mayor has told me that the requirement for a new hospital is 50 acres. That leaves Aberfoyle area.

EV buses are a waste. So are the size of most buses. Look at one when it passes. In possibly most cases, the bus is too big for the number using it. Some cities use more than one size bus because. the number of riders on it don't require the size of bus. If Nova can't build it, New Flyer from Winnipeg does. Grand River Transit doesn't just rely on one manufacturer, it uses at least one more and are using Hybrid as well as electric. Hamilton uses propane and has for years. Think outside the Box !!!

Stupidity reigns again at Council. Going to all parallel parking will kill the ability of people to come to downtown. Nobody wants go to the parkades except those who work there. Many owners and staff park on the outlying streets and walk to the business because of the cost.

The outside budgets are a big problem, especially police. It is time to look at getting rid of GPS and turn it over to the OPP. WE don't need the Castle at Wyndham and Fountain. If the police need to work out, they can go to a gym and pay for it themselves like the taxpayers do. Reduce the number of cruisers that sit at the station. The alternative is to ask the Province to change the way the Boards can willy nilly thumb their noses at Council and say here is our Budget so give us our money.

Yes. we need a second hospital. But it should be a second hospital in the south end closer to the 401. The OR and Imico areas are too close to GGH. When it takes an ambulance close to 1/2 an hour to reach GGH , it is too long. Also, when a patient has to be moved to Toronto or London by helicopter it involves being moved by land ambulance (if one is available) to Guelph Air Park. There is no room for a helipad at GGH. Also, there is not enough parking. Speak to the staff and see what they need. My wife worked there for 44 years before she retired and nothing has improved.

Instead of these machines, why not put the police to work instead of driving around the city. They could earn their overpriced salaries for this job. City wouldn't have to move the machines and the police could move their rad around without announcing where they are going to be.

Where is the BIA on this. It will kill what is left of downtown business.

Council is a laugh. It is time for a wholesale change. I don't want to vote for the Liberal candidate as she is part of the problem at Council. There are a couple of councillors who might be good but a complete turnover would be better for the taxpayers. The high-rise buildings are a joke. Who can afford them. They aren't built for the next generation because they are way beyond the price for the 20 and 30 year olds unless they aren't planning on not have kids.

Perhaps the city and hospital could work with Fusion for 50 acres to be used for the second hospital closer to the south end and 401.

Is the Mayor going to back staff if it turns out that staff misinformed the tenets who will be removed? Council should be looking deeper into this. Have the tenants consulted a lawyer (if they can even afford one)?

When I received my last 2 tax instalments there was an enclosure with it breaking down where the taxes go. Not surprisingly slightly over 20% goes for policing. My question is why? When the shop owner on Woolwich Street has had 3 break ins you start to wonder where the police were. I know they patrol but from where the station is from this store it should not take 5 minutes. They are professionals doing this to the owner. When you drive past the station you see upwards of 8 or more cruisers sitting in the lot across from the station. Maybe they don't need so many vehicles. If they aren't manned perhaps they could have more officers walking the beat downtown.Reducing the police budget would make more funds available for other services including health and long term care which together are near the bottom and make up .02%.

I would like to see more information about Council meetings to see if we are getting value for our tax dollars. I don't believe we are for the the money overspent for the Sunshine List. What are all the conferences for? Are they necessary? How many are going to these . Never see any reports about the conferences and what good it does for the City.

This confirms letters that I wrote recently. I think it is time to try harder if it will take another 12 years. At that rate I will not be around to see it.
Why does it take 3 to 4 white hats who are leaning on the activity?
