Canadians should wake up to the real threat to their well-being and their democracy. The real threat lies not within our borders BUT below the 49th parallel in the visible form of the dangerous and dictatorial Orange Felon DJT and his billionaire co-president Elon Musk. FM Freeland was fired before she resigned because the Orange Felon hated her. I suspect he hated her because she was a strong woman. Personally I would have preferred to have seen Trudeau empower Freeland with a Ministry of Trade Portfolio so that she could align with Claudia Sheinbaum the President of Mexico to tackle the Orange Felon's tariff threats and other hostile trade actions. Together I suspect these two women would have made his life and his misogynist ways miserable, a fitting reward for a convicted felon who has escaped the grasp of justice far too long. Be careful what you wish for Canadians. When I look around and listen the House of Commons during question period the alternatives are frightening.
O Canada. Our home and native land. The True North strong and free. God keep our land glorious and free. True patriot's love in all of us command. How soon some of us forget the purpose and intent of these words, EH. A depraved and morally corrupt Orange Dictator south of the 49th paralell comes along looking to annex our heritage in Hitler-like fashion and some of us want to jump ship and look elsewhere for a saviour. Canada is the envy of the world for it's inclusive, compassionate and dignified egalitarian qulaities. We stand alone as a shining example to the rest of the world on how a people and a democracy are suppose to function. The words "WE STAND ON GUARD FOR THEE" mean something to me. Enough talk about panicking our proud Canuck derriers out of an imaginary fire premised soley on fear and right into the detructive proverbial frying pan. A frying pan controlled by non-Canadian entities, likely void of everything our forefathers fought and died to preserve. Stay resolute, EH.
If you were somehow still on the fence about that Mad Malicious Mango Mussolini south of our border before reading this article, well glad to see you are fully awoke now. This is just the beginning of his demented defilement of democracy and decency. Those pundits were right, the US civil war never really ended. The rest of the world is paying dearly now for the destructive divide that exists between those MAGA pro Trumpers and the Never Trumpers. God please help us M ake ... A dolf2 ... G o ... A way.
Who goes to the Humane Society and adopts feral cats the people at GHS have rescued and healed, brings them home and then lets them run wild outdoors every day and night in their neighborhood, killing birds, bully other cats and damage property. My neighbor that is who!! Where is the logic in that? If someone genuinely cared for a cats well-being they would use a leash and provide effective supervision when and if it is necessary to let them outdoors.
I disagree @ HL. The first order of developing a smart strategy in any trade war is to reach out and align your allies before walking blind into a potential "Trimp v Zelenskyy 2" excrement show. A shameful, staged ambush by the dishonest and despicable, morally corrupt dictator to the south, surrounded by his band of sycophant thieves and maga autocratic despots. Please do not play the insulting TDS card. Anyone who supports Trump's Maga plans to annex Canada by economic or physical force needs to have their head read or apply for US citizenship. You have a right to your opinion, however you significantly dilute that right when you fail to come out against enemy forces that attempt to assail your Countries identity and sovereignty. Carney did the right thing not submitting to Trump's demand that he be treated like the Emperor of the West. Give Carney a chance to stand up to Trump and be the voice for proud Canadians who will never bow to a felonious, twice-impeached incendiary moron.
That image cuts deeply! Sad to view an aerial photo of our City Centre's skyline that includes the [former] gothic, architecturally iconic spires atop the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate. In looking at our City's skyline today, the absence of these spires is a painful reminder of other culturally significant architectural gems and heritage buildings that have been lost forever.I submitted many Letters to the Editor in the past 3 years since the spires were removed by the Church due to deterioration and safety concerns. While replacement costs were deemed prohibitive at the time, future alternative restoration efforts remained under review.Developing Guelph's Centennial Celebration Plan for April 2027, the timing is ripe to again raise the issue of the missing spires. Including the spire restoration in planning our goals and objectives under consideration by the working groups referenced in this article makes sense, in concert with the Church and the Hamilton Diocese of course.
Perhaps the title of this article should read: "City Council cost taxpayers over a million dollars" instead of "Taxpayers spent over a million dollars on City Council." The latter suggests that the taxpayers had complete control over every contributing cost incurred by the City Council. Sorry, installment #2 of 4 is due on my property taxes soon and I guess i'm a little sensitive coming to grips with the galloping costs that I have no control over.
@ AC - I completely understand the frustration you have articulated in your opinion above regarding the author perhaps taking the issue of cruelty too far. I also completely understand the frustration that the author Adam Donaldson has articulated. It may be timely and appropriate to remind everyone that the role of a journalist is to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable." (Peter Dunne 1867-1936) I think Mr. Donaldson has served his role as a journalist in a balanced, fair and fact supported fashion by articulating the essence of cruelty (intentional or otherwise) from the perspective of those "afflicted" by the actions or inactions of government. In doing so, the author has consequently critiqued the "comfortable" who were elected to serve all persons, including those afflicted by homelessness, food insecurity and poverty. I am grateful for your opinion @AC and the author Donaldson's as well. These opinions help the readers see "all" the trees that make up the forest.
April Fools Day, Right? Must be an election in 2026. right? Fool us once, fool us twice ...... Right? It wasn't me, it was those twelve guys, right? Deja vu, right? Hey come on Mayor Cam, yes I was born at night, but not last night.
Public view corridors of the Basilica of our Lady Immaculate are proposed to be maintained. This is a very important commitment to make with respect to our future skyline. I hope that the Staff and Council have sought, or will seek the engagement of the Hamilton Diocese and the Church Building Administration with respect to their plans for a cost-effective design modification / replacement relative to the iconic spires removed over two years ago. In my humble opinion, maintaining a viewing corridor to the architecturally amputated spires we see atop the Church today, would be a gross civic oversight. The gothic 'Lady on the Hill' has been and should continue to be the cultural and historical centerpiece of our City Centre. Either address the top of the two towers or hide the current eyesore with a host of taller structures.
By George I think I've got it Adam. So when a public official contemplates committing an act that they suspect may be at odds with the code of conduct governing their personal and public behavior, "turning yourself in" for your intentions "BEFORE" you violate the code of conduct is the better way to go. Now there is a politician I could support. Thanks Adam for the well written clarification.
I am surprised it took this long to have these life-saving kits at the Library where a number of vulnerable people gather daily. There should be more locations in the downtown core where they can be accessed. More importantly there should be highly visible stations where the kits can be accessed quickly given that time is of the essence when faced with an overdose crisis response. If the decision to close the Drug Consumption Treatment Centre downtown is not reversed today, the need for more pro-active services will be essential to avoiding needless loss of life through drug poisoning.
Exactly @ Jennifer B. Force the Orange lunatic to have to come to us. He says they don't need our cars, our lumber, our energy, our steel and aluminum, our dairy, our produce, our water, our minerals or anything they have etc etc etc He says Canada is a major abuser of trade .... you know .... like a bully. He demands that we become his 51st state. So lets be patient, call his bluff and teach him a lesson on the real "Art of the Deal."

Goodbye Trevor Lee. Take your services to the highest bidder dujour and on day two at that new job, as usual start updating your cirriculum vitae for the next ad you see for another salary enhancement. When you, like many of your coleagues before you, ride into a new town with a basket full of praise for a new fair City, extend welcome promises of loyalty, a dedication to future improvement and service to the citizenry etc etc ....... well save your breath Trevor, we have heard that tune a thousand times before you . We know its just a matter of time before the City of Orillia hears that worn out refrain too.
A 180 followed by a 180 followed by a 180 followed by a 180. What's next? Probably another 180 at election time? That's the time to 86 this administration or the silenced citizenry will just keep swingin in the muffled breezes of autocracy.
Thank You Guelph Today for re-publishing these informative community interest articles originally published by the independent, non-profit news sources at "The Conservative." The contributing journalists are providing reliable facts, data and perspective. It is refreshing to have access to this important and socially relevant news.
As this news breaks, law enforcement authorities south of the border are trying to piece together the motivation for 24 year old Luigi Mangione to allegedly shoot and kill the CEO of the largest US Health Care Organization in cold blood on the streets of New York. Premier Ford has ordered the closure of Guelph's Consumption and Treatment Services Centre. It would appear that the real sickness with regard to health care management lies outside the walls of the hospitals and community health facilities.
I just read the City will have an $850,000 operating surplus this year. I'm very happy for you. I was just wondering that since you didn't really need the almost $6,000 I gave you from my operating budget to pay my property taxes towards funding your operating costs, would you consider giving me some of that money back. With the cold winter approaching I need new socks, mittens & undies. The inside of my fridge is as vacuous as Donald Trump's heart. My rep at Money Mart is demanding the $7K I borrowed to pay a Ticketmaster imposter who scammed me out of Taylor Swift concert tickets. My car needs a tune-up and brakes. My dog needs a new bone and my kitten deserves a new ball of wool. My home security company just texted that their 2025 budget for policing my home will increase by double digits. I'm so poor when I go to the park birds throw bread at me. I'm so poor I cannot even afford to pay attention. My identity was stolen. They mailed it back with a $5 bill attached. Please help me.
@ Splurfy. I agree. There are those that can't or refuse to grasp the real world, lack empathy and compassion. However they are quick on the draw hitting the thumbs down emogi which may probably indicate that they have never lost a love one to the scourge of drug poisoning.
