I'm actually not thrilled Trudeau is resigning, as I don't think there's anyone better to take his place. I also think the "timely resignation" of Freeland was because she wants to be PM. I think the Liberal party will now be very weak indeed. I thought Trudeau was our best bet, but he's right that if his party doesn't support him, he needs to step down.
We definitely need a different city council. They are making many questionable decisions. I don't understand why Canada Day is a 5 hour celebration. The holiday is for the whole day and celebrations need to reflect that.
I'm very confused why this wasn't considered a criminal matter. However, I suppose the police can eventually get involved with by-law infractions as well. When I was 5 years old, I had a disturbing experience because I saw another child in an emergency department who had been mauled by a dog. I didn't even witness the attack and it took me many years to get over it. My point is how much more tramatizing it would be to BE that child who was mauled or to witness it in person. This is a very serious matter imho.
I don't think cell phones should be banned, for safety reasons. Just look up what happened in a high school in Brandon, Manitoba recently, when a student was able to call the school resource police officer immediately. This allowed the police to disarm him within a few minutes.
This is very true, but increased parking fees are an issue this year for many customers and therefore businesses. I do try to shop local but with the city putting up all these "road blocks", it makes it difficult.
They need to really investigate people's concerns when they call to report problem trees!! I'm so glad the woman was not hurt. What if she had a hearing loss and didn't hear the crack or was a senior that couldn't get out of the way?!! It's inexcusable that this wasn't taken seriously by the city for so long!!
Very true Dee and I usually don't go there partly for that reason. The other reason is that there is no bookstore or card shop. The former was the Mall's decision which I never agreed with, as it meant the only reason to go there is to buy clothes or get your watch battery changed. It's really gone downhill. As you said, people just hang out there and I've noticed that security guards walk in pairs which is never a good sign. I've had some scary incidences myself. They definitely need to clean it up and make people hanging out at the entrances to leave.
I'm very opposed to this move and feel we did a poor job of electing our city counsel. First of all, people will just avoid paying for parking, especially when it's kind of steep. They will clog up other areas, such as residential streets and walk over. I just don't understand why we have to be nickeled and dimed for everything as we do pay taxes as others have mentioned. I'm also concerned for the businesses at the Marina which will in all likelihood suffer and perhaps go out of business. The joy of the marina is to appreciate the view and time with your friends/family, and not be worrying about your parking meter. I for one will avoid paying these weird parking fees whenever I can. We are not a big city so I think that is a lame excuse for introducing fees for parking.
I'm not sure you're 100% right on that Lucy. People's choices do effect their living situation. Sure, there are those who find themselves in that predicament, but life choices affect a lot, including our living situation. There are organizations to help people get housed or other service organizations to help people who are homeless.
Good for "Chris" for getting the items back for him!! He epitomizes the helpful people in our city who are many. That's the REAL Thunder Bay, but shame on the person who stole something and then expects to be paid. Even the fact that people kept coming up to him about the fact that his gear was recovered, shows that most people are very helpful here.
Not fair eh? It's also not fair that no one gets Christmas mail, not get their passport, or even in one extreme case, their relative's ashes. I can only speak for myself, but 4 weeks is way too long and I think they should have been sent back to work even earlier. So many things are at a stand-still because of it. I do sympathize with the workers, but too much is at statke for them to be off for an undefinite amount of time.
I think this Snap Election would be unnecessary and a waste of Taypayer's money which could be used for more constructive things (such as improving our roads). He already has a majority and feel that should be enough of a mandate to make decisions for our province. Why is he possibly weakening Ontario? One of our issues right now is our country is in transition with a federal leader. We need a strong front both federally and provincially. Although I sure don't agree with Ford on everything, I do feel he's up to standing up for our province and that an election is unnecessary.
Are they saying the smoke detectors in the building were not in working order?! I'm sure it was just an opportunity to remind people, which should have been written properly in the article.
