17 North Bay convenience stores approved to sell liquor in September

About time we came into the proper century. I have traveled to Quebec, been in the USA. Corner stores have sold booze for decades. No more problems than any where else.

Been that way in Quebec and US for all my lifetime. Seems to work well. Convenient for people. The Market place will ultimately decide if its worth the effort by individual stores. Works great in Corbeil, Rutherglen, Martin River and a lot of other places..

If you lived in Martin River, Corbeil, Rutherglen, a host of other small communities, you could buy booze at the local stores for years. On weekends evenings. Live in North Bay, can't.

I don't buy shifting the costs to the property owner. I bet he pays big taxes and is entitled to Police protection of his lands. I bet a dollar if he went in with some hired goons to physically remove them and all the mess, he would be charged with assault. Dare lay a finger on them and guess who is the criminal. Not as easy as it sounds, if the authorities refuse to address the issues, how can you expect an owner to do it. This is just shifting the blame and problem from where it should be applied.

They abandoned the out of town owner of the former Midas property as well. Sent him a bill to clean up his property from the perps. Then collected his taxes. An owner pays for and has a right to receive police protection of his property.t

City Council decides who it wishes to sit on the board. Not the other way around. Some of these boards want patsies who will follow along and not question what they are told to do. This is another sign of disfunction.

Lots of money for CBC.

Well if anyone is strongly opposed to the $200, its a fabulous opportunity to spend the Governments cash. Donate it to the Food Bank, Gathering place or the homeless, or some other charity. They will appreciate the money.

This will spill over into Council meetings. We have more than enough disjointed affairs for 2 cities. Time for a new council, new blood all around.

Need cameras on board that record plate numbers. Pass on to appropriate police and auto ticket.

Well done, glad officers are all safe. Probably back out already today.

Is the land owner not entitled to Police protection of his property? I imagine he pays taxes and a lot. Passing the buck to him doesn't seem right. Can he physically remove people squatting on his lands and not be charged with assault? If that is so, then its a strong message to anyone wanting to invest in North bay. Don't.

Why did they waste millions reconstructing an old car garage? Plenty of room at rear of yard to build a brand new facility, level the old one. Someone has made millions of this project.

Toronto whining because of one issue. Just give the place to the City and they can have it and spend whatever they want on it. Stop the drain on the rest of us taxpayers.

Still not a fixed price at that. Over a 2 to 3 year construction period, costs will soar. As Casselhome, new nursing home on Algonquin did. Inflation, carbon taxes, strikes for better wages, costs are soaring.

Latest is the little ones that look like tiny cars. Someone in North Bay sells them. I see them running up and down the streets, no plates. Insurance?

I wonder if the City were to compare the fees collected against the cost of illegal dumping cleanup. See if its balances out or even shows a net loss. I have said many times, that the landfill site is just too far away. A one day experiment was done at the recycle yard off Seymour. City needs to make a closer spot to dispose of these items. They are hauled to Barrie after collection. So downtown would reduce that cost as well. Our son in Woodstock just has to take them to their recycle yard, no fee.

Great idea, but why not conventional trailer parks. put in good water, wells, septic systems.

Many Municipalities are denying trailer usage, maybe that has to be rethought.
