So you're moving them from a building they destroyed to another building they will destroy. All at the cost of us tax payers. Enough of this! Stop already!
Looks great! Hopefully it will be AFFORDABLE seniors housing. The Prince George Chateau is so expensive that it sits with empty units. That is unacceptable.
This is the one thing I would be willing to have my taxes increase for. We have needed bear proof bins for years and finally it could be happening. Phasing in is an excellent idea. It is lazy people who refuse to lock up (either in a shed or with proper straps) their bins that have encouraged bears to seek an easy form of food source.
I am not saying the Greens will get my vote, but if anyone watched the CKPG News broadcast forum on Thursday, Oct 3 at 7:00 pm you would have seen that James was the clear winner. He is thoughtful in his responses, informed and confident. I attended the UNBC Forum the previous night, expecting to see all Prince George - Mackenzie candidates and Mr. Steidl was the only one in attendance. It's difficult to make an informed decision when candidates don't show up.
So glad the police are asking for dash cam footage 10 DAYS after the fact! From what I understand, this victim was not merely injured, but SEVERELY injured and transported to Vancouver for surgeries. Let's get serious about reporting crimes so the rest of us can do what we need to for our own safety. My heart goes out to the family of this victim. It sounds to me like he has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
I find it incredibly ironic that the only way I am getting this information about this motion, other then attending the meeting, is via The Citizen. This council is so divided and the lines are clear on almost every topic. Skakun, Klassen and Yu are in a constant uphill battle for common sense and popular public opinion. The rest just don't get it! There are many, many people in PG who do not use Facebook or Social Media of any kind. The Citizen is just one more communication tool to reach the public and promote transparency. Save money on something else, not this.
I think this is a great idea. Modular homes should be encouraged in the development of all neighborhoods. If you take a look over by Heather Park Elementary, you will see a mixture of custom built homes, single modular, and double modular homes. It's a mixture that seems to work. The only thing that would need to be considered is insurance. Currently, insurance rates on modular homes is more expensive then constructed homes.
The poor attendance is not necessarily an indication of apathy. I know I didn't attend personally, because I have resigned myself to what I feel is fact: that the city doesn't listen to us anyway. It seems to be a general consensus among many residents that the City has already decided what they are doing before these meetings take place. If the main concern is lack of population, that may become even more of an issue as people leave PG because of work shortages (ie. mill closures).
Why not just move him across the highway over by the Welcome to Prince George sign. If people want a picture with him, they can park in the casino parking lot and use the lights to walk over.
Casualty after casualty in our downtown. Please, city council, speak up! Say something! We feel so abandoned by your lack of response to DAILY assaults on our city. Do we really put more emphasis on a FiFA watch party?
I believe PG used to have an auxiliary program but it was cut due to the fact that it was just too dangerous for 'civilians' to be involved in certain situations. It may be more cumbersome for RCMP to have auxiliaries to 'baby sit' while trying to carry out their duties. This should be something the RCMP are fully on board with. The streets are far more dangerous then they were 20 years ago.
Downtown businesses may be experiencing a decrease in crime because they have been forced to take extreme measures to secure their property such as security gates and shutters. So, once again, the good guys end up taking care of the problem and the criminals still go free. Residents are in the same boat, being forced to take extra precautions to protect themselves and their property. I would bet that people have just stopped reporting vandalism and theft because it is not considered a priority by law enforcement. So, people, let's start reporting every little thing and see what happens to these statistics next year!
I really wish council would encourage more development for senior living accommodations. Affordable, independent living complexes would sell like hot cakes in this city.
