The mayor is correct - the Human Rights approach isn't working! IMO it is making it worse. Encampments being built all over the city. Something needs to be done to stop the encampments. IMO we are encouraging them. It needs to stop.

Deportation of convicted criminals - drug dealers, gang members should be mandatory. Maybe it will remind the immigrants that living in Canada is a privilege reserved for law abiding citizens. Line them up and ship them out!

They aren't the same job! Simple! If you want a firefighter wage - be a firefighter. If you want a police officer's wage - be a police officer. You can't compare just because they are emergency services they aren't the same job.

I have never understood the LCBO retail model and the BILLIONS it transfers back to the province. The Billions are the taxes that are collected no matter where the alcohol is sold. Open up the retail monopoly on alcohol sales. You can buy legal marijuana at all sorts of private retailers. It's time to sell alcohol at private retailers! If the LCBO Strikes, it will just make the case for Liquor Sales at more retail locations.

It's about time! Let the membership vote on the offer instead of being misguided by their union executive. If vote no be prepared for a long strike or lockout and the financial pain associated with a long time out of work.Any future contract will not provide enough to recover from a long time out of work.

Nobody is listening to the Liberal/NDP grocery rhetoric. This is hardly news. Analyze the wasteful spending before looking for new ways to tax.

Suggesting CP needs a better management team is quite a bold statement. Maybe the Union needs a better bargaining team with realistic view of how CP needs to evolve due to declining mail and increasing parcels. Both parties need to work together to create an effective delivery system that reflects the new reality of what is being processed by the CP system.

I'm pretty sure in the consultation phase parking was studied. There is so much parking in the area. Auditorium, Winnipeg lots, complex, PA arena. The longest walk is 250m. Parking is not a real issue... PS. I am not a supporter of the facility due to the cost and the fact they the user's have had years to fundraise to create a fund for future capital work, but they haven't don't any. They should have a substantial amount of money to contribute to this project..

Congratulations to City Council! If we are to build it, this is an appropriate location. It is an urban location that is away from high density residential and commercial occupied buildings. There is no perfect location. This location scored 76% in the city report. I don't know how FW Rd scored, but that location is too close to residential and commercial space. The location is not perfect. The location doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be acceptable. This is an acceptable location. If we are going to build it, this is an appropriate location.

There is no perfect location. The ward that is selected will oppose the location even the ward councilor will oppose the location to represent the ward residents. The residents of the ward will be opposed to a temporary village being in yTheir back yard. The Cumberland location won't be in anybody's back yard! There are few houses or businesses in close proximity to the location so that is a big win vs other locations. The adjacent salvation army does not oppose the location. It is not perfect, but there is no perfect location. Select the location as the primary choice with LRCA being a second choice if Cumberland cannot accommodate the village.

How will the removal or the fire hall affect FUS Rating for the insurance policies of Oliver Paipoonge residents. FUS - Fire Underwriters Survey - is a tool used to rate fire halls and response times to houses. It is also used by insurance companies to determine whether a home is considered fire hall protected or unprotected. The rating will determine what insurance companies will accept the risk and how much insurance will cost. I expect closing a fire hall will impact fire response and therefore affect insurance premiums. Hopefully council will investigate the impact closing stations will have on insurance policies.

How much is this going to cost? Annual Lease? Cost to build a library space in intercity wont be cheap. There has to be a better option. What will be done with the existing buildings? They will continue to cost the city until they can be repurposed or sold, but not sure anybody is lining up to purchase a library! Put the costing to the public and I am sure there will be serious backlash to this decision.

Council missed the mark on this one! The museum said they would pay the loan back. as one councilor said - Everything they say they do they do - so why wouldn't we believe them on this... The city has spent a tremendous amount of money on the Whalen and to send it to scrap makes not sense. All the spent money is wasted. The Transportation museum has done wonders and a display of the Whalen would be a great addition to the site. If they get a plan in place this week there should be an amended motion to save some of it from the salvage yard.

Cumberland St Scored 76 and Miles Scored 87. What is the scoring criteria? IMO the difference between 87 and 76 is negligible. What criteria did Miles score higher on. How can other sites compare. What improvements can be made to increase the score of other locations? What criteria is used to rank locations?

Let them walk! Maybe they can learn from the posties that not all strikes end happy. Why is strike frequency so much higher in the public sector than the private sector? My only thought is the private sector business needs to be profitable so the union realizes a strike may end with the business going out of business. Seems like Private sector unions have more realistic expectations when it comes to contract negotiations so they can negotiate a contract.

More comments from CUPW union representative showing how out of touch they are. Based on all of the news articles I have read the forced vote is no surprise. The union did not present reasonable terms for arbitration. By failing to recognize any of the recommendations in Kaplan's report and failing to submit a reasonable starting point for arbitration they left the govt no alternative but to force a vote. Nobody at CUPW should have been surprised If the union members vote no to the offer, I foresee another work stoppage - a long work stoppage..The reality is the system needs to change. Daily door to too needs to be replaced by Community mailboxes throughout the country. I don't think the employees realize the implications of voting NO.Transformation is coming to CP regardless how the union votes

Those look great! As for insurance - contact your broker to ensure the sauna will be acceptable to your insurance company. It may be acceptable to some insurance companies, but there is no guarantee it will be acceptable to all insurance companies.

Of course the service providers want it close to them - it makes thins easier for them. Easier doesn't mean better. There is no perfect site and Miles St was far from perfect. The only think that made it even a consideration is the proximity to services. Hillyard is 3.5 km from Miles St. That is not very far from any services. I am not optimistic this will be a success, but this location is substantially better than Miles St.

The recommended 2 ward councilors was a horrible idea from the beginning. Change the ward boundaries to make each ward larger to remove a ward or some wards and replace them with at large councilors. The neighborhoods are changing and the wards need to change too. But two ward councilors makes absolutely no sense. At large councilors with primary contacts for each ward. We should not be determining city council makeup based on the cost to run for council. If someone wants to run for council they can figure out how to spend money to get elected. I should be able to vote for the majority of council members.

Incredibly Disappointing! City council has once again flip flopped. We are now considering the most expensive option that provides the lowest number of units. Kam River Park is limited to 80 units vs 100 at Cumberland St location. KRP is $31,250 per year vs $25,000 per year. The fact that we are spending $25,000 for one person to be in a temporary village is what we should be talking about! over 5 years we will spend $12,500,000. Why aren't we putting that $12,5 Million to a permanent structure. This week the residents of Westfort and McKellar will be busy writing to all councilors. It will be interesting to see if the councilors listen to the concerns of these residents in the same way the listened to the concerns raised with the other two locations.
