Explain to me why GuelphToday is allowing comments on this article, when they consistently didn't allow comments on the articles about the Guelph landlord with non-paying professional tenants who is out over $80,000! You're choosing to publicly name the landlord in this case, but protecting the tenants in the previous situation. Your bias is showing.....
Did you read the article? There is no way for the LL to find out if the TT is paying the water bill....that's the issue! It's got nothing to do with an 'aloof' LL or negligence.....
To add....I'm not condoning what the landlord did in this situation.....it makes good landlords look bad, just like non-paying tenants make all tenants look bad....
The city needs to be mindful of the cost of these different bridge proposals. The Earl/Emma pedestrian bridge began with a 1.8 mil price tag...increased to 6.8 at the start of construction....and on good authority, have been told that the final cost will be close to 10 million! Whether you support the idea of this bridge or not, I don't think you'd find a taxpayer who supports spending 10 million on a pedestrian bridge!
Even with the changes to this program in 2026, the 'incentives' aren't enough to justify building an ADU with strings attached. 13 approved units in 10 months? Hardly a success!
From 1.8 to 5.8 million? This project is literally in my backyard....have always like the idea....but I'm guessing if you asked supporters "would you like a pedestrian bridge at the cost of 5.8 million dollars" - most would say no.....
Just to add, how does the city justify spending almost 6 mil on a new pedestrian bridge, when they can't even take responsibility for the neglect given to McQuillan's bridge as well as the historical bridge downtown....?
