Based on my child's experience in the SCDSB I think it is a VERY good idea to bring back special education classrooms. Children with special needs are not getting their needs met in the classroom. According to my son, they often sit and colour as the teachers and EAs do not have the necessary time to support them as their are so many other issues they are dealing with. And then in some cases, children with high needs cause regular classroom evacuations (which is when the entire class has to leave the classroom as someone is acting violently) which affects all of the children in many ways - the child in question is put in a negative spotlight, the other children are often scared, and meanwhile, everyone misses out on learning. It's not working well. When properly supported inclusion can work, but it needs to be property resourced, and sadly, it has not been.
Glad you like it now. We use the library A LOT - I am there multiple times per week - and we think it is outstanding. The staff are phenomenal, the kids programs are amazing, the book selection is outstanding, I can indulge my love of magazines for free, and I love the way the light enters the building.
I absolutely agree with this. Ontario should not be funding schools for one religion. It's actually an abomination that this is still happening. And everyone knows that the majority of people who send their kids to Catholic schools do this not because of religion, but because the Catholic schools do tend to have better metrics on things like violence.
