OPINION: Construction is lifeline to downtown, not a death sentence

I think we can all live with a little construction to accommodate the needs of businesses and residences and facilitate growth. What will keep people away is drug addled people, staggering around yelling obscenities, or sprawled out in storefront vestibules. These people seem to be everywhere now and yet nothing seems to be done to deter them, arrest them? We have to address this problem or the downtown will be doomed even after the work is completed.

Your headline alarmed me, but I upon reading your arguments, I agree with you wholeheartedly. There’s lots of things we could be doing to improve tree canopy without worrying about every last tree on private property. I agree the City should put their efforts and money into planting more trees and relaxing restrictions on private lots. And I live in Ward 5!

A lot of Negative Ned's posting about this one. Try to come up with something positive to say or perhaps, be quiet.

Great article! Is anyone listening at City Hall!? I have tried to use transit a few times to get downtown or to a rec centre. 50 minutes and a transfer for a trek that would take 10-12 by car. Guess which option I ended up using?

Let her continue! These types of businesses bring vitality to a city, not to mention provide a valuableService. How could anyone be so petty to preclude such a use by complaining about it?
For all the people complaining about this change I think you’ll find that it’s pretty good. I’ve used this app in other cities and it’s pretty convenient once it’s set up with your car license plate and a form of payment You can even look at the app to see how much time is left on “the meter” and add more if needed
