I love how they are using the math loosely! This project will be total somewhere between $20,000,000.00 and $25,000,000.00 over 5 years if we are lucky. All that money for a temporary village is ridiculous.
Nice to know that you think the students who attend Five Mile School are more important than Kakabeka Falls School children!Nice to know you think the lives of the peiople who live and work in Kakabeka Falls are not as important that people who live and work on Highway 102! It is truely nice to know that you dont give a hoot about anybody but yourselves! The trucks were shared by all roads leading West but now they will all be funneled into Kakabeka fallsThis city council is not worth the money you are being paid. The people who built on the highway and now complained about the highway have won.YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!
Here you go, So nice to see all the neighborhood stores getting licenses Oh wait Circle K Canadian Tire Big Oil company owned gas stations.. I am glad you wanted to give corporations more of your hard earned money. You know the same ones who are gouging us for our food.i am sure they wont rip you off or raise the prices.Enjoy
So he is fundraising on our dime! Come make a little speach, then skip on over to a $1000.00 a plate fund raising luncheon, then head home. All the while the travel is paid by taxpayers, not the Conservative Party for who he is shilling. This doesn't seem like this is above board Here is the law When an Ontario party leader travels for a political fundraising event, the travel costs must be paid by the party's affiliated registered association, the central political party, or the specific campaign/leadership account We will never know as there is no longer the option to find out under the freedom of information act and Doug Fraud did away with that kind of nonsense.
So let me get this straight! You want to shift the tax burden onto the single family dwelling owners, so you can generate more businesses investment into the city so you can then lower the single family dwelling owner's taxex? You are punishing the very group you claim to want to help! If a company wants to do business here and reap the rewards of said business they must feel that having their business in Thunder Bay is a good idea. Stop offering up Corporate Welfare to the people who can afford to pay their fair share and placing it on the backs of the people who most likely need their property taxes kept as they are. City services are shrinking , just look to our streets, and taxes keep rising and city council keeps rolling along on projects the the majority of residents have said over and over please no! Then council just does what it wants anyway.
And again the city shifts the homeless problem to the south side. Will you be lowering all of our taxes to show the drop in real estate prices. Of course new companies will want to move into the south side with all the awesome advantages, the crime, the drug use, the the drunks, the the violence. Heaven forbid the unsavory sight of homelessness be seen anywhere near the entertainment side of the city. We pay taxes, we have pride in our homes and businesses and deserve the same consideration for our investments as everyone else. STOP USING THE SOUTH SIDE AS YOU DUMPING GROUND!
So this will not solve the problem but you will go ahead with it anyway! Who will be picked for the units? How will they be picked? Who will manage it? Who will police it? Big question is If the unknown future policies of this underfinanced and badly thought out plan are not followed, how will you be able to kick them out? Will the city need to follow the Landlord Tenant Act of Ontario? Sanitary facilities, Heating, Hydro, Security, Occupancy Rules, etc. Please stop saying this is temporary, once you create this new slum, it is here to stay. Again the south side is your dumping ground and I am sure that our taxes on this side will only go up to support this fiasco of your own making! City Council is a joke! Thanks for nothing!
@BERG8228 Maybe read the whole statement, The three roads, Hwy 102, the Shabaqua Highway and 11/17 each shared the truck traffic. Now only one will have to contend with all the trucks while a select special group will have none. That is why they should be ashamed as should you, thinking one child, parent, customer, or anyone else for that matter should have special trreatment over the other.
The land is assessed at the amount the city is asking $2.351,000. You don't want to pay that then don't bid. We the taxpayers are tired of the fire sale prices offered up to developers. The land will only increase in value as the waterfront is developed. We all know there is only so much waterfront land available in city limits and this piece is one of them. Bid or Don't! No one is forcing to to do anything.
Hire a few people to inquire of the AirBnB availability on AirBnB web site in Thunder Bay. Cross check if they have paid the STR MAT tax and if not send them an invoice with interest for the entire duration of the tax, the last six years. I am sure they will be happy to provide you the information of how long they have been open so as not to pay anymore than they owe.If you are going to have the tax to level the playing field, you have to actually police it and follow through with the usual consequences to these STR owners.
Ontario's taxpayer money should be spent in Ontario if at all possible! Why would we not support our workers who live, work, shop, and pay taxes here. This only makes sense so there will most likely be people who are against it.
If the unhoused really wanted to use the services already being provided in the area would they not already be using them? If they are shoulln't we be seeing a decrease in the homeless problem instead of more and more tents popping up everyday!. A free place to stay will no actual rules will not create any change at all. If the whole point is to help them get off the street then build more treatment beds are the answer with real help!
I love how you always fall into the talking point of a paper boy the only real job PP has ever had other than living off of the taxpayer's backs in government You know the one with the $280,00 pension per year. The facts of Trudeau's education seem to be a hard news item for people to find so Here it is. He graduated from McGill University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature, and in 1998 acquired a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia. There fixed it for you.
Don't forget the money to run these operation, say $3,000,000.00 per year for the five years. So all totaled it will be in the over $21,000,000.00 for a temporary solution. I don't think this is the best use of the taxpayer's money
From the Manitoba border to Sault Ste. Marie, the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17 in Ontario) passes through the following towns and cities: Kenora, Dryden, Ignace, Thunder Bay, Wawa, and Sault Ste. Marie. Funny kakabeka Falls isn't on the list
When we the taxpayers are funding a project for our province with help from the feds, why are we not demanding 50% of the project be of Canadian made. All capital investment of this vein should be supporting our workers, our local economies, our friends and neighbours not other countries. These are well paying union jobs and should be supported not overlooked by the people we elect to govern our province and our country
Maybe not create the problem on the south side then blame it on those tax payers. By creating the division of north side the shopping, dining, outdoor cafe, walkable, exciting side of the city and leaving the south with the court house the shelter house the social services office with the pretty name of the Administrative Side. The south side does not even rate a bus shelter or depot. The transfer and south side pick up spot is the City Hall front yard! But to the question at hand, this 4 way stop has just created another problem of traffic flow, an item fixed that was not broken. How about we fix what is.
Nobody said it was free in the true sense. Canadians do know that healthcare is paid with our tax dollars and the word free was used to mean we do not pay at the time of service. The healthcare was just available to all and we all shared the cost allowing each and every Canadian to be cared for without worry that they would go bankrupt or worse die because they could not afford careThis is a pretty pricey service Primary care $4.45 per min to start for intake $2.5 min for appointments, walk in $5.00 a min for 10min Telephone $5 a min.Using this service will just get more and more expensive as more and more for PROFIT clinics open, pulling more of our healthcare staff into them. The haves will have access any time they need and the poor and the sick will be left in the dust dying waiting for care they can not afford. If Ontario can afford to build an underground parking garage for some private spa owned by a foreign investor we can afford to fund our Healthcare properly!
The fact we have to debate this same issue over and over again is ridiculous. At this time trucks needing to go to the southside to deliver and travel on west use Hwy 11/17. Trucks bypassing the city use Hwy 102. Each Hwy has homes along the route, each has a school, and each Hwy as roads leading off of it and vehicles wanting to get on it. Why should one be forced to accept all truck traffic so the other one can be safer? The fact that people will demand that the risk be forced onto one and not the other, just means they think that their safety is more important than the next family. Stop this treadmill and waste of our time There are two highways and you have no right to demand we continue to rehash the same old thing. Enough already!
I for one will remeber each council member who voted for this useless waste of money! When this is built and the homeless move in who will be responsible for their safety? When something bad happens and it will because the site is not comstantly being policed by security and population control ie one person to each pod, will the city be on the hook for the lawsuit? You are putting it here so they can access the nearby services to help return to society, correct? Yet I believe you know, they are not accessing these same services available to them right now! Once they are built, they will become an even bigger liability and more costly to the city each year. What stipulations, rules and time frames will they have to better themselves so this doesn't become just more of the same problem but now it is even bigger?
