It’s interesting how everything has to be about blaming first Trudeau and now Carney. Why can’t we just enjoy the fact that customers both local and visiting have helped our local businesses? I enjoy the many restaurants and stores in the area because of their creativity and offerings. The leader of the Federal Government has nothing to do with today’s special at my favourite restaurant.
I guess if you’re okay with the ambulance or fire truck taking a little longer…. then okay intall speed bumps. Personally, I , like the majority prefer cameras. However in Ford’s world…. it’s all about cars. It’s too bad we can’t rely on people to follow the law of the road. The volume of tickets for speeding proves the point.
The Mayor needs to explain how his firing will “Build Homes Faster”? At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how many homes you build when the real issue is affordability! The average wage vs housing cost has got so far out of whack that today most young people will struggle to afford rent much less buy a home. When I first entered the housing market, I worked in a small town printshop, took a pay cut from a comparable job in Toronto and yet was able to buy a house at 11% interest! Building houses seems to be the driving force behind Strong Mayor Powers, but if and when our Strong Mayor gets around to building said houses, who the heck can afford to buy one?
We have another Doug Ford wannabe on our hands. Didn’t like the democratic decision so change it. There for all the photo ops but no mention that while he was MIA during the first few days of the ice storm, Councillor Tim Lauer was at the helm managing the crisis. Thanks Tim, we appreciate you.
Stalling and stumbling? How about not labeling those new residents with your condescending comments. Affordable housing is the single biggest issue in Ontario today and has nothing to do with stalling and stumbling but more to do with all levels of government allowing the income disparity to continue for decades while they got out of the business of building affordable housing. This is a great addition but not nearly enough. How about using your contingency funds, using unused city and provincial land and partner with Habitat for Humanity and get back into the business of building the housing our parents began their lives in. An affordable 2 or 3 bedroom bungalow instead of acres of McMansions on the plus side of a Million dollars that developers build today.
Does lack of transparency come with “Strong Mayor Powers”? And if anyone thinks for a minute that he hired a lawyer to settle for a week, well good luck with that!
Added patrols. We live on West Street North speedway. Often in the evening vehicles race up the hill past Jarvis. When I walk the dogs at night, I often see cars go by without lights on or cars running the red light at Brant. Seldom do I see a patrol vehicle unless it’s racing to an emergency. Cars and trucks seem to have free reign to speed and the loader the muffler the more the speed.
I applaud what you are doing Jenny! Considering the failure stats of the restaurant industry it shows how well you and your family have created great dining spots in Orillia. Personally we use Rustica for special occasions and often go to Brewery Bay with groups of friends. I can say enough about the great staff and it speaks well for the environment you have created. The fact that you want to expand, refresh and grow in today’s environment is fantastic and funds especially meant for that is exactly it’s purpose. We appreciate the great venues, jobs and revitalization as well as charitable works you do in Orillia. Keep up the great work and thanks to Steve for laying the foundation. Bob Dean
