They can keep telling us they're telling those who use needles, how to dispose of them "properly" but the fact of the matter is, that ISN'T happening. The fact they continue to get these needles for free & continue to discard them anywhere & everywhere is truly disgusting. Do they not realize just how bad the problem is or how many needles & crack pipes are just causally laying around? I mean really, are they waiting for a child to be pricked by a dirty needle at the park/trail or for someone to prick someone at random with a dirty needle to actually acknowledge that this is a big problem?YOU hand them out. YOU come & clean them.
They're really going to do it, aren't they?Sticking it in the bush, where people have to travel to get to the closest hotels, restaurants & stores. There were better options, but here we are.
Kids today have zero self control. They're so addicted to the mini laptop that is a cell phone. They don't need a phone in class/it doesn't need to be on during class. Back in the day, we were told if phones were in class, they were to be off otherwise they stayed in our lockers. We survived & turned out just fine.
Cont'd..."Have to" open our wallets. Have to? We don't "have to do anything. Mr. King & all the councilors who don't think these problems run the city should open their wallets. They can afford to, a lot of us can't. It's so odd to me that Mr. King continues his "I'm surprised" or "doesn't know" act. He oversees the shelter & the warming center which gets it's meals from the Gathering Place. This act is old.The Food Bank, another spot that is being used by many people who don't actually need it is always at events asking for donations but are somehow still in operation. If the Gathering Place is on the verge of closing because of no money, I'd say the Food Bank is close to it as well.
Give it up. Chippewa was chosen to stay open & won't be closing. These issues are also city wide. Also, it was Mr. King & his group who were warned by the public, literally the entire city - let alone those in the immediate area about what opening the shelter would do. But as per typical North Bay motto - we'll advise you, we'll ask & listen to your questions/concerns, but it won't matter because we're going ahead with it anyways. The only movement needed, is the shelter as it should've never been put there in the first place & EVERYONE knows this. PS - none of the wasted money would've been needed for Chippewa & the surrounding properties (ya, don't forget other properties installed fences too), had they just listened to the legitimate concerns of the people, but here we are.
Here we go again with the "I'm surprised" act again. Mr. Chirico, you just came out defending the police budget increase because of safety concerns. Well, this is a HUGE safety concern. You know why they didn't call? Because they would've been given the same response, that you'll hear them out, but you won't really listen to what they have to say & that would've been the end of it & no one would know. By going to the media, it puts YOU & the rest involved on the spot to actually be serious about this very legitimate concern for once. When is the last time you & your colleagues visited Chippewa & the surrounding area? My guess, you haven't been around since the problems started because hey, if you don't see/deal with it, it's not happening - right? As for the closing line of "Asked if the school board trustees should expect a response, Mayor Chirico nodded, adding, "Oh, there will be a response."Well, go for it. Do something about it.
Why is there even discussion about relocating them within the city & helping them build basically a tent city? If they're not local, relocate them back to their hometown. The local group should be having access to the programs, should they choose to accept the help. If not, let them do what they're going to do. The reason it's so overflowed is because there's plenty of people who aren't really homeless taking advantage of the services. They've got to filter them out.So many of these people refuse the help because they know that all these services will continue to give them handouts/freebies. We've seen it go on for a while & we see all those handouts scattered throughout the city. North Bay caters to the homeless community more than it does to it's own residents.I also think it's rich that Mr. King calls it a bad idea (which it is) but he has no problem with what's gone on at the shelter, because according to him nothing bad happens there.
The second North Bay became a dumping ground for the homeless community, that's when all of these problems escalated. The number of homeless people, the crime, the drugs, the overload on systems & so on. Had North Bay not become home to the non local homeless population, there wouldn't be as many problems as there's been.Until you relocate the non local homeless population & remove the drug dealers & criminals who are NOT homeless, the overload will continue & places will continue to shut down because there's no funding & North Bay simply can't handle this load. Honestly, maybe limiting the services could cause these people to leave the city for a location that ACTUALLY has the means to help them - should they choose to accept it.How many times have you offered food to a homeless person, only to be rudely told no & that they only accept cash? That cash doesn't go to food, it goes to the LCBO or their next fix.Mr. King also recently came out saying we, the public...
Cha-ching, cha-ching.They can't afford to keep spending money on band-aid solutions, when there's one very big cost saving solution that is staring everyone in the face.Move the shelter away from not just Chippewa, but away from all & any schools & neighbourhoods. You can't keep opening these places within city limits, for many reasons & I'm sure they don't need to be listed or discussed.
@ Our North Bay...Unfortunately this isn't the first shooting in the Bay. There was one on Manitou that was drug related in I believe it was 2021. I'm going to assume this one is probably more of the same.Bold to shoot anyone, to shoot them in a school yard no matter what time of day it is. This literally just happened in Toronto the other night at random. It's really scary to think about.Regardless of what the situation may be, I hope the victim pulls through. Very happy to hear the shooter was caught & arrested. Now lets hope the shooter remains behind bars. Looking forward to the update in the next few days.Thank you again officers, for all the work you do!
Wonder if they'll release their findings to the public. I think we have an idea of what they'd find but curious minds obviously wonder. She's now calling out the right person - the slumlord. As I mentioned before, as long as he's getting the $ he doesn't give a you know what. If he comes out & says something like "you have no idea how hard it is to remove them" all I could say to that is, he's had PLENTY of time as this place has been a dump for as long as I can remember. I can't imagine being one of the good people in a spot like this. Having had a spot like this across the street from our house, I can't even begin to tell you how exhausting & dangerous it is. I remember the full to empty back packs coming through as well. The Landlord Association should also step in. There's a program called Rent Check that allows landlords to do background checks on potential tenants, so there's zero excuse for all these dumpy places. Zero.
Whoop, there it is.As suspected in my previous comment on the previous article(s), drugs included. The additional charges are some serious ones as well. Pure recklessness from this guy.Wake up courts/judges. Keep these people off the streets!
How do you pay the bills? You get out there & you look for work. Places are always hiring. Ryan is a kind person, so I'm sure he'd have no problem giving a new possible employer good information about his Lou Dawg employees.Best of luck to everyone.
We live in the area where the actual boxing in of the vehicle happened. It was quite the scene. It was very well done without injuries or other issues. That's one hec of a load.Well done officers, well done!
No one is claiming to be a perfect driver but based off of all the avoidable accidents & the very aggressive drivers throughout town, the increase doesn't surprise me. It's a shame really. People all in a rush to go nowhere. I don't know if it's because of where we live in town but we've definitely noticed more people being pulled over.Keep up the good work!
A lot of us went to school in the days when their were either no phones or no phones allowed in class & we turned out just fine. It's not the end of the world kids, you'll be alright.
