Province unveils plan for $1.579 billion patient care tower at UHNBC

This is nothing more than a political move. Where is the staff going to come from? Surgeries are already delayed for patients due to staffing issues. Will they magically appear when the tower is completed? Family members who live in Kamloops just told me their fancy new tower is unable to operate for the same reason, not enough staff. When will this government wake up and deal with the fact we have a severe shortage of Doctors especially in the North.

Does anyone in city hall realize we are heading into a recession if it hasn’t already begun? Our tax base is shrinking with all the job loss we have experienced over the last two years due to recent mill closures. People are leaving the city for work elsewhere. How do you expect the taxpayer to be able to afford this when people are struggling to put groceries on their tables with the rising cost of living. How about start cutting some of the fat at City Hall first. City Hall along with City Council are completely out of touch with reality.

Unfortunately this was just a matter of time. The way people drive is out of control. Speed limits are something to be defied in this town and not by 5 to 10 kms. We’re talking 20 to 30 kms over and this is in the city. Tailgating is now the norm, just witnessed an accident on Peden Hill where someone smashed into the back of a truck! Speeding through school zones and tailgating if one dares do the limit is also common. Watched someone cut off a motorcyclist on hwy 16 just out of Vanderhoof! Signalling to change lanes has become a thing of the past, just pull in front of whoever is in the way. Witnessed someone doing this very thing to a school bus, the bus had to swerve and slam on the brakes. Stopping for pedestrians at crosswalks is now an option. My question is why are there no police patrols? I cannot remember the last time I saw one anywhere. As long as people are able to drive with no care or concern for anyone else on the roads, sadly, this will not be the last fatality.

City Council and especially the Mayor have lost their minds. The insanity knows no bounds. In a city where hundreds of jobs have been lost, tax base shrinking, any new industry that tries to come here being sent away, please tell us, WHERE,is the money coming from for this grandiose , ridiculous plan? The TAXPAYERS of Prince George have had enough! It is high time for city hall and city council to start cutting expenses. Even the Mayor of Vancouver stated they need to reduce costs and that’s a city of over 1,000, 000 people! Not Prince George, oh no! we seem to think we can have it all. At a time when families are struggling to meet ends meet I find the revelation of this plan distasteful.

You called the RCMP? Domano Boulevard was lined with Todd Doherty signs. There is one left and one was in the ditch yesterday. If you call the RCMP every time a Conservative sign was removed or destroyed they wouldn’t have time for anything else. What a waste of an Officers time. Politics is a pretty rough game. If missing signs are an issue for you I don’t think you are going to survive in Ottawa.

Just another day in paradise! God bless these Officers who put their lives on the line to go to the same places, arrest the same people over and over again just so they can be back on the streets and business as usual tomorrow. What an absolute disgrace our legal system is.

I guess the city of Prince George hasn’t kept up on the weather. Haven’t had enough rain and cool weather yet? This utterly ridiculous!

How very sad. One walk in clinic for a town this size is inadequate. Even if you have a family physician, depending on how they run their practice, you can wait 2 to 3 weeks to get an appointment, long gone are the days when you use to call your Doctors office and say you think you have an ear or sinus infection and the receptionist would say pop in and someone will have a look at you between patients. So between those who have physicians who refuse to see you for an urgent matter and tell you to go to the walk in clinic, and those who have no physician at all we have quite a situation with the medical system. When you have the whole obstetrics team quit and walk off the job at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops last month and then the whole psychiatric team quit and walk off the job at Vernon General Hospital 2 weeks ago you have a serious healthcare issue. The Minister of Health needs to step up and start investigating what is going on!

In all honesty it is not entirely the City’s fault. This all comes down from the Provincial government who mandates all of this and the city has no choice. Just wait there will be many more homeless people coming here in 2026 as Vancouver sends them up when they host FIFA. It is truly eye opening when you research what goes on with the homeless. Look at the North Star Inn. Driving by I have already seen them replacing 4 broken windows and a set of balcony doors due to the destruction by the residents. It is no laughing matter that our tax dollars continually go to housing for the homeless who have no rules when moving in and many just don’t want to be in them in the first place. Make no mistake, all of this is from the hands of the NDP government whose mandates have ruined the downtowns of cities all over this province and put innocent people in danger.

Or they need to be returned to where they came from and have their families or communities take care of them. This continuous rounding these people up like cattle from communities that don’t want them such as Vancouver, is cruel and inhumane Especially being they are dropped off downtown PG with no plan. If you don’t believe this is happening ask any social worker who works down there. This is reality. Trevor you are absolutely correct. It boggles my mind that this continues to happen.

💯 Bobs your Uncle I couldn’t agree more. Very well said.

BGeez you are 💯! It’s about time this happened. These post secondary institutions take full advantage of foreign students who pay double and some triple what a Canadian student pays. It’s all about the money and nothing more. CNC is one of the worst for catering to foreign students at the peril of Canadian students. “Ensuring they can complete their studies as planned” this is laughable when the majority don’t even show up for class and are just here to get citizenship. Those who do this should be sent home immediately. But as already stated it’s all about the money!

It is a very serious situation. Have spent the weekend in Vanderhoof and talking to logging truck owners who have not worked in 6 months. Yet they know it’s not just industry that is broken in BC, it’s education, healthcare and a province full of crime. This is why 70,000 people have left BC and half have gone to Alberta. We are a province rich in resources and yet are on the brink of disaster due to a government who is shutting down industry. The only people happy with the NDP are those who thrive on government handouts. One day when those who work to pay the taxes that allow you to live off the system are no longer employed those handouts will stop. We cannot sustain this much longer.

I had the privilege of being on Juno Beach where my Uncle who was knighted by France (chevaliers (knights) of the French Legion d'Honneur) on the 70th anniversary of D-Day, where he landed on that dreaded day. It is a sobering feeling to say the least. My Grandfather was at Vimy Ridge during World War I and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery posthumously. Both men were never the same when they returned home. We are so far removed from the Second World War and with so few veterans left, younger generations do not know the cost of freedom. Thank you to Marlo Mahoney for her teaching and desire to keep alive the memories of those who paid the ultimate price. “Lest we forget”.

So now the city decides zoning is important? This city knows no bounds to hypocrisy. Of all the times they disregard how locations are zoned this is the one that’s supercritical? Example, Stand Alone Airbnbs which continue to operate in this city against provincial legislation with the city turning a blind eye. But this fellow doesn’t get a pass? It’s just unbelievable.

Better access to healthcare? What province do you live in? Have you been to an emergency ward anywhere in BC? Do you have any clue how many people are on waiting lists for over 2 years for surgeries? 800 new Doctors? Where are they working? MSP premiums should have never been cut in the first place except for those living on the poverty line which with this unelected David Eby government has become longer. Cheap daycare? For who? There are so few openings it is a smokescreen to make it seem like the government is doing something. 75,000 new jobs? Where? In the public sector? Which is so inflated all our tax dollars go for wages and that is why there is no money for healthcare and education. Save your dreaming for nighttime Murphy as the rest of us live in this nightmare created by the NDP.

What we need are Doctors, Specialists, Nurses and someone who knows how to run a hospital!
