Start saying goodbye to middle class in Guelph. Only upper class will be able to afford to own houses in Guelph.

As a lifelong Guelph resident of 50 years, including 20 spent working downtown, this renovation feels like a case of putting the cart before the horse. Why would families bring their kids downtown to play when Guelph already has so many parks with green space, playgrounds, and convenient parking. The downtown core has more pressing needs. Guelph’s homeless and less fortunate — downtown has largely become their space. Why not provide incentives and support for small businesses? A proper cleanup and refresh of downtown would go much further toward making it a place people want to visit again. To me, this feels like a huge waste of money. Property taxes in Guelph are already high, and more frivolous spending will only worsen affordability issues — which directly contributes to the growing homelessness and low-income struggles in the city.

Only the rich can own in Guelph. Soon it will all be more rentals as the "middle" class cannot afford a mortgage and such high taxes. Feels like "middle" class is being pushed out.
