I don't know why Elevate NWO's first request is going to council. Since 78% of the homeless are Indigenous people, one would think that any endorsement should come from their homelands. These 78% likely could not follow the rules and chose to go to the City of Thunder Bay to live. Where is the compassion from other Indigenous people? I would certainly like to read something about how Indigenous people are trying to help other Indigenous people find their way without the help of non-indigenous people. Indigenous people have a better relationship with the Federal government than any other government body. Instead, I read articles about the self-efficientcy of Indigenous people starting up a new banking institution called: "First Nation Bank of Canda" (FNBC). Something wrong here.
The driver for the transport flatbed must have had a lot of confidence in the belting that lifted the car. Standing so close to the car while suspended could have had serious consequences if the belt would have failed. Suspended load, stone wall behind him and a elevation drop of about 8-10'; not much of an escape route. Perhaps more training is needed here when lifting/positioning suspended loads.
Hyprocracy lies with protestors. Creating political ties and solidarity with other universities is one thing, but to attack our banking institutions of their investment portfolios while wearing rubber soled shoes is another. Unbelievable! I hope that none of the protestors are enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce degree. This could be a gamechanger for them.
The union leader for OPSEU Local 745 may be new at hard-ball negociations. Whereas the CEO sounds like a veteran. Being unionized for a year and no contract is a sure sign of bad faith bargaining - not good faith bargaining. It is also early signs of union bashing - trying to dissolve the union. In the final statement of this article by the CEO, there is no merit in their words if parties don't go to the table to negociate. Very poor leadership on the employer's part. Two hours a day?!
It's easy to seek fault after the fact. There are two perfect photos that support safety awareness prior to a possible incident. Perhaps the MOL should have a chat with the owner of the transport flatbeb.
Wow, 53 jerry cans! I did some research and calculations with respect to the information stated by the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations. The maximum weight to carry gasoline is 150 kg. 1 jerry can (25 L.) = 18.5 kg. Therefore, 150 kg. would be approx. 8 jerry cans. I hope that this individual made it back home to Atikokan without incidence. Also, the retailer could be in a lot of legal issues here. It is nice to be charitable, but safety comes first. I believe that this story will raise a greater presence of law enforcement at this gas bar for the next few weeks, or so.
In answering a survey by OLG, I suggested the same idea when jackpots get considerably larger. Take the latest Lotto Max - $80 million. This could have been divided into 8 x $10 million jackpots. Image winning $10 million and what a difference that would do with your life. Is winning such a grand jackpot of $80 million make any more difference than $10 million. The excess amount will never be spent ones life-time. The same for Thunder Bay 50/50. Why not make multiple millionaires instead of just one? I am a sporadic purchaser for this draw. Like my suggestion to OLG, I would like to see Thunder Bay 50/50 offer multiple grand prize winnings - no less than $1 million prize. I believe that this may draw more players than what we have just seen. More players having a chance to become millionaires!
Trump has done it once again! Not because he has ceased all trade talks, but because he has managed to get our readers to go political. The ceased trade talks simply deals with commerce, but so many are wound uptight about politics that the comments are closely 50/50 for both Liberals and Conservatives. When Trump couldn't find a legitimate reason to cease trade talks, he chose to address a 1987 ad that has little to no relevance to our current trade issues. A scapegoat. What he did succeed to do was to agitate our readers to go political. And that's what his game plan is all about. He is still wedging away at our two major political party supporters to state comments against one another. Trump wants Canada to divide, become weak and try to walk in and make Canada their 51st state. Trump may stoop to wild tantrums, talk with lunacy, distract with courtroom fallacy, but his main goal is to make Canada USA's 51st state. A political divide should not be an option here.
The parking lot to the left of the photo belongs to the Casino. That parking lot is the main parking lot for its patriots. Access to that parking lot would be difficult with one entrance only. The one on the other side of Pearl St. would be no problem. What about the one on Park St.? If Cumberland is dug up and Park St. is a one-way, access to the Park St. parking lot will be impossible. Summertime brings in a lot of business and tourist for the Casino and other local businesses who use the Casino's parking areas. Will there be two-way access to Park St. parking lot?
Where does it say that there is a plan to reinforce our military with soldiers from China and India? Comments made about a foreign country had to with Canada manufacturing our own equipment; not by a foreign country. There is an over-whelming cry for our government to create jobs in Canada with talent that we already have. Now that they have initiated this project, there are vocals who oppose it. You can't have it both ways. It's a great idea that Canada becomes less dependant on foreign countries for their enterprizes, but not to close the doors on foreign content, knowledge and innovations. 2025 was an eye-opener of just how vulnerable Canada was to our southern neighbours. Self-reliance is needed and our federal government is working towards that goal. I don't understand the negativeness that is being stated other than unfounded political prejudice. A bit more Canadian support for our country and federal government would be encouraging.
@N. I attended a viewing of a drop test in 2017 hosted by NWMO. Guess what? The drop-test was about 10 ft. high and the container had some damage at the impact cornor of the lower face of the container. Don't tell lies. I was there - were you? To the best of my knowledge, NWMO has never showed a video of another drop-test.
"Lex loci domicilii" - the law of where you live. Send all out-of-city villains back to the district from where they came from. This will help reduce court costs, lessen over-crowded jails and reduce costs for their incarceration.
I'm pretty sure this landlord regrets trying to evict their tenant for an unsavory reason. Now that the LTB has the landord's application on file and it was dismissed due to wavering testimony, the landlord's character will now be tested with greater scope for future attempts to evict. Honesty is the best policy. Even if you don't win your case, respect is still earned and your integrity is not compromised.
@DM. I'd like to be clear. It was my suggestion that the whole prize is made up into equal parcels of winnings; not to say that I would give up any portion of a winning. I'm not a hypercrite; I would accept the whole prize. It's just to give more people a chance to gain some wealth as well. As I said in my message earlier, I buy at sporatic times. I do wish the winner the best of luck in his new found wealth. My preferred lotto game is ON49. Ticket sales remain in Ontario and the top prize is capped at $2 million. If I cannot live on that winning for the rest of my life, then I'm doing something wrong with the winnings. Good luck to all the Thunder Bay 50/50 players.
JT248, you are correct. It's up to the individual if they want to see his performance. According to the picture in the article, Bankas is pictured at the Elbow River Casino in Calgary. The casino is ranked 2nd in Calgary with a 3.4 out of 5 rating. There were 52 reviews. Check it out and see for yourself if this person is worth money for your entertainment.
In my earlier years, I used to be a big game hunter. However, in the early 80s, laws have changed drasically when harvesting big game. I gave up hunting and sold my weapons. Also, I took up scubadiving. I purchased a 35 mm. camera for both land and underwater and took hundreds of pictures. Now, I was able to capture nature at its fullest (air, land and water). I consider myself as being a naturalist even though I don't get out as much as I use to before. There was a time when my path crossed with a Conservation Officer. I wore hunting apparel for safety sake. He asked me if I was hunting. I said "yes". He then asked me to show him my weapon and hunting licence. I pulled out my camera and told him that I don't have a hunting licence. At first he was stunned, but then he began to laugh shortly afterwards. Even Conservation Officers have a sense of humour. The best thing about this story is that I never had to pay any fines for unlimited shootings and for not having a hunting licence.
I believe that Administration of the City of Thunder Bay is on the right tract here. Now is the time to educate young and growing minds with our political structures and show how these structures intertwine with decisions of council, Provincial Legislature and Parliament. Perhaps the Ministry of Education could create Political Science - 101 happen starting in Grade 10. Teachers are gifted with teaching skills, and I'm sure that an introduction program can be put together. There are so many issues that can be used as part of the cirriculum - it's limitless. I hope that teachers and the Ministry of Education will follow through with administration's suggestions. Thumbs up for Ms. Powers' and Mr. Walters' efforts to introduce a vital need of our youth's participation in civics.
I believe that it was last year when the NDP brought in a Bill about our faulty highways - especiually 11, 17 and 11/17 to the Legislature and almost all Conservatives voted it down. You can't get results if the Conservatives keep stonewalling great initiatives from other parties.
