I think infill is a great way to build more housing, and in an already spread out city should be the first choice. I’m not sure parkland is the way to do it, if there’s other properties maybe leave the parkland out of this. Maybe the city could look at some kind of incentive to private land owners with vacant or tear down property using the housing funding from the province & federal government to encourage more development that way?

Some sort of 24/7 urgent care clinic is needed so badly in the city. I know there’s a handful of smaller clinics that have an urgent care model, but they’re still not open 24/7 and don’t have all of the services you need.

Wow what a bad look for Lakehead Public Schools. Sure it seems they’re technically right, but really what do they care? I thought it was a great idea, as did many other people. Especially when she was trying to cooperate by offering a share of proceeds, this looks very petty and spiteful of a school board (especially one that is public and obviously not a for-profit corporation) AND the board offers nothing like this on its own already.

Why would the city want to take on responsibility for another piece of infrastructure? I don’t see what the benefit would be.

The title of this article is very misleading. 1/3 of the city does not feel unsafe, 1/3 of the respondents to this survey (of 442 people) said they feel unsafe.

Gary, you mention that the waste should be stored where it is produced “until such time as better, more safer ways of storage and/or disposal are developed”. Is the DGR not the NWMO’s attempt at creating said safer way of storage and/or disposal rather than storing it temporarily at its site of production?

Being the only 24hr pharmacy in town is a pretty captive market… I understand it’s a private business and they can do whatever they want, but hopefully with some gentle pushback and complaint from the public, maybe they will reconsider their decision.

I doubt it, that’s a pretty significant part of their business. The service to Pearson is just to allow connections to their other destinations also served by the jet.

Oh please no more taxes… obviously groceries are expensive but a new tax has never made things cheaper.

@Rock yes obviously the transport driver is at fault for running a red light. But why would you not look before you enter the intersection? Nobody cares about your own life more than you do, it only takes a second to make sure it’s safe before proceeding. Why wouldn’t you just check? Would you cross at a crosswalk without looking? Obviously the drivers should be looking and yielding if you have the signal to walk, but would you really not look around first? Definitely need to be charging said drivers when able, but the best person to protect your own life is you. Just take an extra second and be careful.

Finally a good decision. Maybe a silly & circuitous process to arrive at this decision, but a good decision nonetheless so let’s not complain too much. And yes councillor’s, there are other cities that offer free parking for a period of time.

Instead of complaining, why not use this as an opportunity to lobby the government to continue twinning highway east of Nipigon and west of Thunder Bay?

Why on earth would the city want to do any of this on its own when there is a willing third party to take it off the city’s hands? If the transportation museum at the marina is still interested, why would the city not donate it to them? It makes perfect sense for it to join the Alexander Henry (whether it floating or not). How about the VIA rail train? If the transportation museum wants it, why would the city have any opposition to giving it away? It absolutely seems in everyone’s best interest to offload these from the city and centralize it at 1 transportation museum.

Maybe cheaper yes, but why waste all that time and money upgrading such a vast distance of highway to a design that is still susceptible to head-on collisions, and still offers no redundancy to highway closures as it’s still a single piece of roadway. Major highways such as 11 or 17 are critical routes and need to be divided (eventually, it’s still a colossal undertaking). This 2+1 design may be more helpful on less critical routes.

Air Canada has also locked out the flight attendants, not just a strike. Also, Porter flies twice daily to Ottawa in addition to the multiple flights to Billy Bishop and once daily to Pearson you mentioned.

Does this really help? Yes I’m sure a percentage of the homeless population are seriously trying to improve their lives and have just had a hard time, but for many, being homeless is a choice. There are already countless programs (and don’t forget charities, community groups, and individual citizens) that help people in a variety of ways like shelter, food, addiction recovery, and helping look for/prepare to work. If something like this is to work, there needs to be limits on how long you can stay, but also meaningful support so they can create a self-sustaining life for themselves.

Why not set up toll booths at every highway entrance to the city while we’re at it? Maybe an extra tax for transport trucks entering the city too? Collect an airport improvement fee on behalf of the airport since they don’t need to charge one?
