If they would fix the Culvert at Hwy 17 they now admit they own and applied for a grant for, at the same time they applied for the other 2 failed Culverts on Dayton road. Spend about 150k for interim bridge repairs, that would give them 2 years to find money through grants etc. residents of Dean Lake would have regained access. Lack of proper maintenance and ignoring OSIM reports for 5 years has them in this infrastructure disaster. Worrying about spending a million on the roof of the arena rec center roof, instead of roads bridges and culverts. Nothing is more important that road infrastructure.

In the interim, they could spend 150k for repairs now to open the bridge and fix the Culvert. This gives us 2 years of use now . The Culvert is part of a grant application according to the municipality. So they are just being difficult for no reason. The rehab or road , have to come from grants also but they have to apply and wait and plan . They have the money for the interim repairs, and probably the money for the culvert. There is no excuse for not going this direction.
Great idea! Especially since most using that bridge are not taxpayers of Huron. Shores. They have borrowed $1 000 000 plus bridge reserves on the backs of the ratepayers to fix the Pontomac. No grants applied to, no funding contribution from the Local Road Board Montgomery Patton or other users.

If they would fix the Culvert at Hwy 17 they now admit they own and applied for a grant for, at the same time (June 2025) they applied for the other 2 failed Culverts on Dayton road . Spend about 150k for interim bridge repairs, that would give them 2 years to find money through grants etc. residents of Dean Lake would have regained access. Lack of proper maintenance and ignoring OSIM reports for 5 years has them in this infrastructure disaster. Worrying about spending a million on the roof of the arena rec center roof, and renovations to the rec center, instead of roads bridges and culverts. Nothing is more important that road infrastructure. Huron Shores is nothing but detours.
The road work will be far higher than that , please take the time to look at all the documents in their entirety. They didn't even address the part of Chevis Road along the river that is required to have guide rail system, that will be an astonishing amount plus they need to raise the grade so it doesn't flood out in the spring. That needs to be done ASAP, as a primary road access it has now become.
It's naive of you to believe they would not rely on grant money for refurbishment. Likewise for road upgrades. They have borrowed one million for the Pontamac bridge, and in the minutes of one PSC meeting this bridge may have been replaced with a culvert. The Mayor wants to spend a million on the rec center roof plus upgrades. This decision was voted down for the time being. The next bridge is the Dumond bridge, it's high on the list. The Chevis road upgrades engineering reports are preliminary. They have land acquisitions to deal with first. It's all in the documents, these costs are not included in the estimates. Read it all for yourself.
