Canadians are capable of thinking for themselves. While media provides input it does not control the output for sensible thinking people. We are not being groomed by the media we see and hear.

Not sure what your point is jerjer. He was duly elected as the leader of the Liberal party and as such he automatically, after swearing in becomes the Prime Minister. Outside of that he does not have a seat until there is an election either national or a by-election and he wins a seat. Canadians in general do not get to vote for Prime Minister. Only those in the riding he runs in. So I just do not understand your point sir.

Why do so many Canadians not know that our Prime Ministers are NEVER elected? The leaders of the party with the most seats are appointed as Prime Minister. Canadians only get to vote for the people running in their riding!

If you are a pedestrian you need to have a complete understanding of everything around you, ALWAYs. I cannot count the number of times that I have driven up to a crosswalk and watched pedestrians walk across, head down of face in a phone completely oblivious to anything around them. Yes cars are supposed to stop and allow pedestirans to cross freely but if you value your life you need to take responsibility for protecting it in the face of drivers negligence.

If Ford comes back with nothing he should defnately restore the export tax on electricity to the US

The thing about his pension was nothing more than Conservative propaganda that appealed to the greedy nature of his followers. What he is doing was keepng the Liberal government alive until it weakened sufficiently that he has a good chance at being the official opposition after Pierre gets to be Prime Minister. As soon as Christa destroyed Trudeau's leadership Singh announced that he would bring the government down. It was never aboout his pension please quit believing Pierre's lies.

When I grew up bikes shared the road with cars. There was no special consideration for bike riders. I am pleased to see that the city is planning and has set out to find a way the bike lanes and vehicle traffic can both be accomodated with safety for both. I have seen cars do dangerous and ridiculous things near cyclists. I have also seen cyslists doing things near cars that where they seem to be asking to be seriously injured or killed. What I know is that if both do not respect each other and focus on the safety of each instead of pointing fingers, there will continue to be accidents.

Bike lanes on the 401? How may cyclists do you want killed? Even the car drivers kill themselves there.

Think a little deeper. If they elect a moderate leader that brings the platform back to center and cancels the gas tax much of Pierre's majority will disappear. It would be foolish speculatiion to suggest that it reduces his lead to a minority government but it is possible. Nothing is for certain and it all depends on where the Liberals go from here. Much of Pierre's apparent support in the polls in nothing more than revolt against Trudeau. Many, many Canadian centrists are not fans of Pierre.

There is absolutely zero motivation for developers to build low income/low profit housing. Reducing development fees just gives them more profit on McMansions. The only way for it to happen is for the cities to demand it based on building permits or for the federal or provincial government to become the program manager like they did after the second world war and now Carney has suggested again. Any other discussion on this will result in exactly that, discussion!

News media started to decay when television news began. The written word and still photos could not compete with the impact of video and live sound. The whole thing became irrational when the internet made everyone a reporter or influencer. The competion for clicks drove people to make outlandish statements. Those running channels push positions that feed peoples anger. Those responding with anonimity are safe to say pretty much what they want and fact checking was never an active thing. The only safe harbor we have is to pick someone we can trust and even then fact check everything.

This is an excellent example of predatory capitalism. It is perfectly legal. If any city or county wants to effectively maintain an adequate inventory of low rent accomodations there are only two way I see that will ever be accomplished The government must own and maintain its own buildngs or it must regulate privately owned low income housing through tax deductions and incentives much like how heritage homes are managed.

A fallen down dangerous bridge is hardly a "nice Thing" is it. The issue is should we have the government invest more tax dollars into rebuilding or not. Why are all those like yourself that want it restored not coming forward yourselves with the money to rebuild it?

Renovictions are a sensitive area where capitalism meets social responsbilities. If I own a building and want to renovate it to make it more profitable why should not? It is not illegal and in fact our society and economy are built of capitalism. The challenge for our society is to figure out how we can support capitalism and meet our social responsblites at the same time. If we want an inventory of low cost housing there are only two ways to achieve that. Either the city owns their own buildings or they give landlords sufficient positive incentive to do so. Bickering over renovictions is a mute point and nothing more than screaming into the void.

While parliament may not be sitting the government and its business will still go on. The negotiation with the Americas will continue. They are not on holidays, they just can't pass legislation, but Pierre has stopped that from happenng for some time now anyway

While I agree that much of what of what you say is accurate I don't think that Harper did many of those things and he cut the militry budget to the bone.

I have no issue with the city trying to preserve grand old buildings tht echo our past. If however in doing this they impose conditions on the the home owner that bear costs either in specific materials or types of workmanship the city should bear the entire cost not just part of it. There should also be a very large reducton property tax because in reality the city now owns part of the real estate!

the unique thing about roundabouts is that they are supposed to keep traffic flowing and each one has at least two crosswalks. Crosswalks and roundabouts do not play well!
