As a Canadian, I think we all can be proud that a clown like Trump could never be elected in our country. It is amazing that certain Americans cannot see through this guy
Do you want to be represented by a person with deep roots in our area and understands things from our perspective or do you want someone who has never really lived here who by his own admission only owns a home in our area. This is an embarrassment by the Conservatives and should be a major consideration as you go to the polls
The sad part is it is not so much the dogs as the people who owned them. To have that little remorse for situation that it was their responsibility to control, needs to have serious ramifications. If another human did this to a person, it would be considered a very serious crime and the end result would reflect the seriousness of the crime. Make them pay and I hope the gentleman is not too badly hurt and I wish him well in his recovery.
Being a representative is much more than owning a house in the area. How do you speak for the people when you are not one of them? It is this type of thinking that we don't need in Ottawa.
Since the board made the decisions that he is appealing, does it not seem strange that the appeals board is made up of the same people who denied his request? The poor guy has no chance!
We certainly have a penchant for shooting ourselves in the foot as a city! The elected leader of our community has messed up royally and what gets me is that not once has he apologized to us the citizens for his actions, but I guess an apology would indicate that he did something wrong. This has done nothing for his reputation, not that that matters to me, but through his actions, what he has done to the integrity and image of our city cannot be undone as long as he is the Mayor. If he is a true supporter of our city, then step aside, save face and allow our city to recover.
How long is this going to go on? Every time something new comes out, the hole gets deeper. I find it very sad that with so many groups in our community doing what they can to put together events to celebrate our 100th anniversary, the #1 story for the year will be this mess.
If it was an honest mistake, you would think that upon checking your credit card statements, you would notice such big ticket items were missing. If it was an honest mistake, you would immediately look into why those expenses were missing on your credit card. If it was an honest mistake, based on what you found out, you would take the initiative to determine how these items got paid for and take the lead on rectifying the situation. If someone internally had not noticed the discrepancy, how long would this "honest mistake" gone on?
How about a simple rule - walk in the classroom, shut your phone off, put it in a designated area and pick it up when the class is over? Same rules for vaping as cigarettes. You get caught breaking the rules, you become your parents problem! The system is totally broken in that the tail is wagging the dog - accountability for your actions should have consequences and should not cost 47.5 million to implement!
Good move but let's not ever forget why it was named Memorial Gardens. The memorial wall at the north end lists those residents who gave up their lives in a variety of wars and were so honoured with the naming of the facility.
The tail is wagging the dog! You can't deal with new problems with old rules. This nonsense of sending them to the office is a joke as the administration in the office have their hands tied as well. What is needed is a zero tolerance policy of one and done! You disrupt the classroom to the point that a child needs to be sent out, they then become their parents problem. Make a call, come and get your disruptive child. Education is privilege not a right once you have abused the system. Governing bodies need to put some teeth back in the system and take control.
I really don't care who Gretzky or Orr support, but don't just flaunt it! The picture with the hat on was insulting. If Gretzky is so concerned about what Canadians are saying, then come out and make a statement that shows his support for his home country. Has he talked to Trump about how he has insulted our country? He does not have to go after Trump personally since they are friends (why I cannot figure out), but stand up for your country and I think people will have a different feeling. Until that happens....
You are either one of us or an outsider and this lady is an outsider! Regardless of political affiliation, our area has always wanted one of our own as our representative. No matter if she turns her performance around, she will never be one of us and would be the last thing our area would need as a representative
Our long history as a partner with the American military is something that I am very proud of. They are not tenants in our city, they are felllow citizens. It would an insult to them if we were to remove the flag from the Gardens. Our fight is not with all Americans, it is with just one; the clown in the White House. To take down a flag that represents our history with the American military makes no sense.
The rationale behind this expenditure simply does not make sense. They wanted the docks so that they could have an enclosed area that measured 50M. They also wanted it because it made the area safe in that boats would not be able to get into the area. For decades buoy lines did the same thing! That is a lot of money to create something that could have been done a lot cheaper. On top of that, they put them in this week and will take them out at the end of the summer which is just around the corner. Not the greatest planning or expenditure!
If you ever spent anytime at the old psych hospital site when there was a ball diamond up there, you will remember that mosquitoes and black flies were the size of small birds! If a pitch is going to be built, it should be close to the Education Centre. Many students could take advantage of it and it would be a nice addition to the Centre. With a lot of international students, this would be a logical site.
Thank you for this new approach. If there weren't so many negative comments on the site with no facts to substantiate them, perhaps this would not be necessary!
When one takes a look at what some employees at other levels of government make and how much more easier their job is, I have no problem with MPP"S getting an increase. Just take a look at the Sunshine List of municipal employees. It is tough to argue against MPP"s getting a raise based on the responsibilities they have
The is an embarrassing article with such an emphasizes on negativity. Perhaps the article is a little tainted by the fact that a Baytoday reporter was part of the re-structuring that took place when Burton was hired? If our city had as many wins as Canadore has had under Burton's leadership, we all would be better off. Over the years folks, don't believe what is being reported. There is an old saying that applies "don't let facts get in the way of a good story"!Thanks President Burton for everything you have done
