Why did we need the former Mayor of Golden to facilitate the meeting ? I am sure there was some home grown people that could of done the Jab for a lot less money , maybe some council members, have the talent, if not what about our Former Mayor? The next meeting , should have a time limit on the speakers. Advertise in the Citizen, and on Face Book. and use a School , like Ron Brent , how hard is that? We have a major problem , our Downtown has been destroyed , by turning a blind eye to the problems , and now to try to fix the problem , we are putting residential areas in Harms Way and throwing them under the Bus. There has to be a better way. We need to protect our children and keep them safe.
Maybe the City should be looking into , all the other EMPTY buildings , that are downtown, starting with the The two old hotels on 3rd, Speedy Printers , City Second Hand, Northern Hardware, and many others, Who owns them and what are their plans? What are they doing about FIRE protection?
I am very sorry to hear this news , I met her and thought she was friendly and had lots of energy and she answered my emails . Good luck Rachael on your next project.Prince George needs a strong voice in Victoria , I think the Conservatives , should scoop Kyle Sampson.
Big Question why do we need so much Transitional Housing in Prince George? and what does Transitional Housing mean? Could it mean someone getting out of Jail for who knows what? people with mental problems ? people that are Drug addicted ? Is this not putting P.G. residents in harms way? P.G. has become a magnet for the homeless and addicted , and it seems the Downtown has been surrendered to them. All this is planned without public input and not proper zoning .Thank You Mr. Taylor for having the courage to speak out.
Budget cuts in our Schools , But money is no object , renovating old Motels, for people from who knows where , with who knows what. Take a drive past the North Star Motel the Province has purchased , and look at the Money that has been sunk into this project-nice new black iron fence going up today, we have a School a block away, SAFTEY should be a issue, but then who cares?
Moccasin Flats should never have happened , its thanks to a couple of Lawyers and some advocates , that caused this problem to get out of control , Where ae they now?Who is responsible for the clean up of the tiny shacks ? Build and they will come , the good , the bad and the ugly . Another fire in our Downtown this problem has destroyed our downtown. There needs to be some tough love, and some strong leadership.
They were released ?? Fentanyl KILLS people they should have been charged with attempted MURDER. What was their source ? where was their source??We need to get to the root of the problem and do something about it, if you see something -say something.
Jerzy ; thank you for speaking out , maybe people that do not live in the bowl will see how bad it is for everyone. Shirley Bond also spoke out about the North Star Motel that the province bought for about 12 million and who knows how much in renovations , she told the Premier the Connaught area is scared and concerned who they plan to put in there, we have SCHOOL close by. We want a clean SAFE community. The Premier did not seem to be concerned, he has a plan and his party is sticking to it.Our City should be concerned they could put a high risk sex offender , Drug dealers , who knows who , from who knows where in there, This still has to go through Council and they should be concerned for our Safety .
Fire after Fire, The Fire Dept. should be looking into this and be putting a stop to what ever is causing them. I have been writing- the City needs to make sure the North Star Motel has security 24/7 and security cameras , now we have to add sprinkler systems , so they don't burn the place down.
For the Millar Addition and Connaught areas, it more than about campsites , both areas are Beautiful residential areas , that need to be protected and not used as a dumping ground for the unhoused. The City needs to start listening to the people in these areas and address their concerns, like Safety issues , like in staling cameras and security??and stop putting all the problems in one area of the City.
I guess these are the same rules for the North Star Money Pit. Low barrier housing , I guess that means you can do drugs in your unit, The Money Pit Motel better have 24/7 security and security cameras , as the City and the Province has plans to use the Money Pit as a dumping ground for people from who knows where ,with who knows what, how safe is that for the Business and residents in the surrounding area , we have a School a block away. The Conservatives better have a better plan . I can not believe someone on Council is not speaking out about in Influx of of people coming here looking for a free lunch. Where is our leadership. Our Hospital is on over load.
The comment it will put Seniors at risk, Seniors are at risk everyday, with lack of housing, lack of health care. Seniors in the Connaught and Miller areas are going to be at extra risk , putting Transitional housing in our areas , both areas have SCHOOLS close by , what guarantee is there going to be that is not going to be Sexual Predators in this group?? Safety is a big issue. Town Hall meeting on the 28th. A Bus stop is nothing compared to this.
On the News tonight , it showed two units at the Knights Inn , which the City purchased , has been busted for DRUGS- now the North Star Motel on Victoria St. the Province purchased for transitional housing, is this going to be turned into a big Drug den? The City needs to be asking al lot of questions like is there going to be security 24/7? is there going to be security cameras? This Motel is not zoned for transitional housing.
We live in a different world, our nurses and doctors , have to deal with a lot more , our hospital is a scary place , when you have homeless sleeping on the benches and walking the hall ways , using the washrooms and you could have a drug addict in the bed next to you and their friends coming and going and over dosing . The nurses have to deal with all of this , what about their safety? none of this should be going on, a Hospital should be a SAFE -CLEAN place.
Stop putting people with mental health problems in the same basket with people with addiction problems, Addiction is curable , stop doing drugs , mental health is a life sentence .While I am at it - make our HOSPITAL a safe place , right now its a scary place when you could have drug addict in the bed next to you , and homeless people using the bathrooms , sleeping on benches , and wandering the halls. A Hospital should be a Hospital. How can you make more beds ? you con not get parked now. Make use of the youth containment center??
Dan , said it's your Job to give us Leadership , I would like to add to that , keep us safe and protected, even if it means some tough love. We can not keep encouraging problem people from here there and everywhere to come here - we do not How have the support systems in place, like our HOSPITAL.
How about putting some seniors housing on the property ? We promise we will be abstinent from all drugs and alcohol. Official Community Plan, that is interesting , different rules for different areas of the City we pay all the same taxes, How about giving the Connaught area and the Miller area the same Consideration?? Its the Province we have no control over what they do, Then how about taking charge and looking after us the same way you just did for Collage Heights ? The North Star Money Pit should be Alcohol and Drug free , but that is not what is happening is it? but then no one really knows what is going to go in there , is there going to be cameras and security 24/7 ?? Our Council has no control over the Motel its the Province.
Thank You for speaking out, but people with mental health problems , should not be put in the same basket as people that are DRUG addicted. The Drug addict has a choice.
It is happening because we have allowed it to happen, and we have been turning a blind eye to the situation , starting with people coming here and being sent here , with big problems -looking for a lot of different things including DRUGS. Our hospital is being used as a bus stop and shelter, that needs to change it should be a safe place. The Safe Streets Rally is on Oct 16th at 7 pm at CN Center.
