Mary Street residents petitioned to have the one sidewalk removed that was over 60 years old and in a disgraceful condition. This would have allowed residents more space to pile the snow, extend driveways on a very constantly populated area to help with parking, safe so much $$ on replacing the sidewalk, sanding it, plotting it, etc, but council and mayor ignored our petition. If sidewalks are creating the backlog, maybe it’s time to reconsider your bad decision making. Often streets only have one side with a sidewalk. I understand there is no bylaw to remove sidewalks….so MAKE ONE. Isn’t that what your job is???
Hunter says removal was considered in the 2024 meetings for the 2025 budget but doesn’t state whether or not they have passed a policy to do so. The city has been holding meetings discussing saving money and this would definitely save money so as a resident of Mary Street for almost 50 years, I’d like to know why the City has not passed such a policy and why they won’t listen to the residents that live on Mary Street. A petition was presented with a majority of names requesting removal and getting any response or answers has been such a struggle. Simply vague answers. When I complained about my yard being dug up, I was told the City repairs all the damage….hasn’t happened in 50 years. Just lip service. Come on. Do better.
Sorry about all the auto correct mistakes in my post. Should say, densely populated, should say ploughing it and save $$. Wish I could edit my comment but this is the best I can do in this forum. Total waste of $$ to replace sidewalks and so costly. Why don’t our council represent us and we present a good way to save $$…many streets in Orillia could have sidewalks removed and save $$ , but this isn’t being considered. I also understand that many trucks are parked because of the flu going around. Why don’t we have backup???
Better to have one side done properly which may be the case if they just need to look after one side. Just makes sense….but you know, that doesn’t always matter when it comes to these situations.
