Commenters on here have been screaming for years for the City to TEAR IT DOWN. Now they will but we still won't be happy with it.There was no other option with the developer refusing to proceed.
The city shouldn't be investing in the YMCA unless they are willing to invest in every other charity in town, you know, the charities that don't charge a $60/month membership fee. Y members should be paying the bill.
People are used to bringing reusable bags to the grocery store so this isn't the time to be going backwards. And, if 'struggling families' can afford a $50 bottle of booze, they can pay $1 for a reusable bag.
This land has already been on the market for many years. Multiple developers and native groups have tried and failed to bring their vision to reality. The last thing we want is a 'developer' to buy this prime land and leave it sitting vacant for years in anticipation of it increasing in value. (like the old hospital site). Here we have a local developer with plans in hand, ready to put shovels to the ground.
Money brought in from outside of the country and spent here is a good thing....it's time people realized that.....and there (sic) going back home after there (sic) schooling is complete.
Before everyone jumps on these two councillors for bringing this forward.....The seventh floor observation area has sat empty for years and something should be done with it. It affords beautiful views of the surrounding area. The councillors are simply asking staff to come up with a way to use it and recover some money from the unused space.
Leave it to the local government. It's a LOT easier influencing local councillors and mayor (or throw them out of office) than it is influencing Queens Park.
It was mismanaged. COVID contributed but membership was dropping prior to that. Seniors can't afford the monthly fee.Repairs not done. Pool closed all the time. Funding not applied for. In 2 years it will fail again and city taxpayers will be stuck managing a broken building.....for something that benefits so few. You can't count childcare because that can be handled easily by other agencies.
The point of a slow speed limit is to stop traffic from using Queen as a through street. If you use Queen Street, it's because that is your destination.More pedestrian friendly, and a lot quieter for the sidewalk cafe crowd. I really dislike sitting at a cafe, only to have some guy in a jacked-up truck barrel down the street making as much noise as possible in order to compensate for his small tool.
First month discounted.First month for needy paid by donations.Newcomers free first month. All these artificial memberships counted toward the membership goal. This isn't sustainable and many of these people won't keep it up.Good luck but get back to me a year from now.
How many doctors in Ontario lost their licences due to their COVID behavior ?You should maybe look it up before you make such silly statements. As far as the hospital handling the excess, I expect online clinics will be established to handle the numbers,,, not ideal but better than sitting in the ER.BTW, wait times for CT and MRI are pretty short.... my wife has a 4 day wait and when we were there (Sunday morning) there were NO other people waiting. Had results in under 24 hours and it was all available to her online.
There's plenty of playground equipment at Bellevue Park. ...and a splash pad.If your children aren't satisfied with all that, maybe you should examine your priorities.Playground equipment should be spread out over the entire city. Not everyone has the time to drive all the way to Bellevue.
