If we listened to the general public we wouldn't have the Auditorium that has entertained thousands and thousands of people. We wouldn't have the complex that has provided great physical activity for thousands of users each year. We would not have a round-a-bout because the population was positive that busses and trucks every day were going to be crashing there. There is lots of things the general public may not want. They are not always right. Actually the loudest ones that seem to "speak for the masses" generally are a minority. They are just the louder bunch. The city and the vulnerable need this project to happen. The project and our tax base need it to be successful. No successful project is a waste of money.
Yes thank you council men for pushing this decision back another month or two and undoubtedly losing the provincial funding. Our city must be the laughing stock of the province.
Why should the city deny a building permit for this? It is their property, it is zoned for such a building and use. There is a housing crisis and this fits the bid as a solution and they have the funding for it. Build build build. That is what this city needs regardless of your heartless opinion.
Going through the federal budget doesnt even matter at this time. It is not like he keeps to it, he will overspend whenever possible. We need to vote him out next election and it can not happen fast enough.
This is a great display of culture. FREE to attend, FREE to sample some food, FREE to learn about your friend, your neighbor, your co-workers culture. I have done the Festival of Colours once and it was a beautiful time.
My thoughts exactly. There is a lot to happen to have this site and the decision on location is only a small part. And they have taken 9 months or more to do step 1
Wait we can save on junk food and fatty snacks, but he turned down the idea of saving GST on new house purchases or builds. This wouldn't cost small businesses money to figure out how to roll the program out. It would save a family thousands and thousands and it would help the housing concerns we have.... but why address that
The Auditorium is one the best things to have happened to Thunder Bay. It has world renowned sound and has been the only building for us to enjoy professional entertainment since it conception. Even if it ran at a loss it has immense social and economical impact to our city.
The absolute NIMBY population has come out. There are no negative impact of this site. It will be developed and secured with staffing. It will not be an eyesore. It has been proven to work in other communities, we are not pioneers. We are long behind the curve. How many of you complaining about this and it going in the area are willing to walk around Miles st currently? How many of you hang out there? Tony's business is beautiful, great service, great food. I wouldn't want to stand out front of it too long myself. That has nothing to do with a homeless encampment. We can chose to try and help the most vulnerable with positive impactful change, or live with the trajectory the city is on and I am sure all of you do not want that
"Naming rights" in terms of stadiums are a direct reflection of Sponsorship Value. It is why the "Sky-Dome" is now called Rogers Centre, Why staples Arena changed to Crypto.com Arena, The Air Canada Centre has changed as well. It doesn't go to certain people, it goes to the highest bidder.
Oh My they have lights at Oliver, John and Red River........ If they come down Dawson they have lights at Hilldale, East Ave, Strand and then the highway within like 500meters. Stop it with the accidents will be the same. They will not, The studies showed that.
