LCBO confirms strike over, stores will reopen Tuesday
30
The 2 week strike has given the opportunity to try the Spring Mill Distillery in Guelph. There Rye has a better flavour than what I used to purchase at the LCBO. Between them and the expansion into the grocery store, I have no reason to go back to the LCBO. I would like to thank OPSEU for giving me the opportunity to go another route.

The province increased the minimum wage so there was no longer a difference between what a server in a restaurant gets, and someone who works in a shoe store. I work for my wages everyday. No one tips me. I’m not tipping for fast food ever. If you feel you don’t earn enough, find other employment, or get your employer to raise your wages and the prices.

They are giving back money they unjustly stole from my paycheque the first time around. It is my right to use it on beer, popcorn or fortnight. I didn’t see the government or anyone else passing me tools when I put in 64 hours last week.

We need to stop spending money we do not have. Our municipal government needs to make a budget and stick to the budget. Even when that gets uncomfortable. If our municipal government that we elect to make a budget, then use our money to carry out that budget can’t, why do we bother with elected government. We might as well just turn our money over to the unelected bureaucrats and save on elected salaries.

The carbon tax has not prevented one natural disaster or fire. All it has accomplished is wealth redistribution, and increased price of goods. Every time it is scheduled to increase we increase our price to our customers in advance, because our suppliers increase their price to us. I’m sure our customers increase their price to the consumer. I will not loose money in this deal, but the regular consumer will.

Guelph transit has become unaffordable to the cities taxpayers. It’s time to contract this service out, so riders pay the actual cost, or just close it down. The taxpayers in this city do not have anymore to give. It’s time for the real user fees to be passed on to the users. The city needs to get back to its core responsibilities.

Our city council and staff keep spending the money, the taxpayer doesn’t have. The city needs to get back to looking after core functions. We didn’t need a fancy new library, the average resident doesn’t use the ones we have, unfortunately the money is spent/committed. We don’t need a fancy new operations campus. The facilities we have are good enough, when you look at the taxpayers finances. We need to push back on the province for homelessness funding. The property tax base can’t fix our homeless problem, the homeless will suffer, but this isn’t a core function of the city. We need to stop cutting the university a good deal on everything. The university isn’t closing its doors, and needs to pay a bigger share.

Matt Saunders we need less people to do the work at the municipal level. We are living in a time, where they need to do more with less, like in the private non government sectors. If these employees don’t like it, I’m more then willing to let the try to earn more in the private non government sectors. It’s not so nice out there, and we don’t have the money to keep them all.

$470,000.00 wasted at a time when when the government needs to be seriously assessing the value taxpayers are getting back from using our money.

Use those strong mayor powers and stop using our municipal tax base to fund things that are supposed to be funded provincially or federally. The taxpayers in this city can’t afford to keep paying for social services that are supposed to be looked after by other levels of government. We also pay those levels of government to look after their mandated responsibilities. If there isn’t any money (and there isn’t), then cutting needs to happen. Some people will suffer. The taxpayers in Guelph are not an endless money tree.

60000 Cars off the road…. These people are actually stupid. Most of the homeowners in this city, don’t work in this city. This city has no plans to bring in employment that pays wages to pay a mortgage. These councillors need to go back to being blue haired unpaid activists.

If the taxes go up by more than 2.5% annually, landlords should be able to raise the rate by exactly the % of the tax increase. The way they have it now, residents who rent do not pay their fair share, while receiving a greater percentage of the social services budget then home owners. If it was this way, city and county politicians might be a little less likely to raise our property taxes at the rates currently scheduled.

This perfectly built structure will be full of mold by spring. If his family really cared, they would make a place for him in their home. In his words, this man would be to dangerous to live in their home. So now this man is a danger to all the residents of Guelph, but that’s okay?

That is the level of representation we have. Council picked their 2 horses and then it was decided by a draw out of a hat. A shiny example of democracy at its finest………wait, this is exactly the opposite of that. We need a by election. That’s the democratic process we have in Canada.

Stop spending our money like it takes nothing to earn it. The downtown doesn’t need $161million in investments. Council has filled the core with crime and the homeless. These 2 problems need a solution before another cent is spent.

If the university truly wants to divest, they need to divest. They need to divest in from all money provided by government that was provided to government through tax revenue related to fossil fuels. Whatever that % is. They need to divest from all fossil fuels. No more cars/trucks/plows/natural gas. If they are going to do this, they need to do it.

This intersection is not dangerous if the traffic joining or crossing Hwy 6 simply follows the laws and rules of the road. Put your phones away and wait until it’s safe to cross or turn. Once you’ve decided to cross or turn onto Hwy 6, step on the gas pedal and get up to the speed of traffic as quickly as possible.

They could just put it against next year’s budget, and reduce our property taxes. The average taxpayer would be okay with that.

The union doesn’t unilaterally declare a strike. The workers vote to go on it, and to end it. This was all the workers.

If the city decides it wants to replace a bridge that hasn’t been used for many years, it needs to cut the projected $5 million dollars to build it from other projects and programs. We need responsible government that lives within its budget. The taxpayers are tapped out.
