OK, now this is ridiculous. Have we elected a few people to approve spending that again benefits a few people? The trail system is not necessary and would need constant upkeep and clearing. That I am not willing to pay for, period. The library yes needs some work. The bus pullout and turning lanes should have been part of the development. I am one voice but I do vote.
We have many laws that are not being enforced. We need to have police control blackened windows and people hiding license plates as we saw a near miss ourselves on a crosswalk but couldn't see the driver because their front side windows were black.
This has me concerned. Zoning that allows for uses like a community care, school or non-profit may apply or be given tax exempt status according to the new bylaws being approved that same night. No more tax exemptions where we have to make up the difference on our taxes. I'd like to see a map with every property that has been granted tax exempt or tax grants made available to us every year. Let's see what we are dealing with.
Does Council get it yet? The community is tired. It would appear that PG Citizen has fallen prey to censorship when one cannot say toilet or fed up in a post. Maybe look at your algorithm.
Council, I did not vote so you can set up a medal program. No matter how you look at it, it will be looked at as political. Please stay focused on making those hard decisions about taxes, planning and and services. I question if this is a good use of our tax dollars because I'm not naive, this is going cost us and the need for another person to cover council pet project. We have grants, exemptions, key to the city and provincial, federal awards. I don't volunteer so to be parted on the back. Nice thought but move on and FOCUS on what matters.
Council, good job getting those done. Some good questions from you all but I would refrain from kissing the boots of landlords/owners of problem properties. That was disturbing to see Council so apologetic for dealing with this at a meeting. Neighbours have suffered for years, I bet their opinion of the city is not so kind.
CNC has an excellent reputation and is more economical to attend than attending UNBC right out of high-school. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have planned.
When will this insanity stop? Mother nature says there's a river here not a walkway. Don't our city people know, MOTHER NATURE ALWAYS WINS so stop spending good money on this.It is pretty and a nice to have and this city seems to have a LOT of nice to have's we can't afford to fix.
The era of charity has turned into a business with business plans. Many if the organizations are funded through tax dollars whether we like it or not. While I appreciate the efforts and good intentions of our non-profits as soon as a salary is established for an executive "team" it is a business. As for Northern Health, per the recent interview on CBC please get your own house in order and fulfill your mandate before expansion. The fact is everywhere we look there are too many managers managing and not enough people actually doing the work. I quit donating when Boy Scouts, BC Children's Charity, Salvation Army and the Red Cross executives reached 6 figure salaries. I don't make that much so no donations.
Our Mayor has admitted publicly that discussions behind closed doors may have affected the vote. I thought this was illegal and discussions had to be open and transparent. I wonder how many other private discussions are taking place. I'm having flashbacks to Mayor Hall private discussions and how much it cost us.
It is concerning to see that we have paid 88 exempt staff in 2023. We have 934 staff but only 612 full-time equivalent meaning we have 35% of staff working part time or winter/summer schedule. All exempt are full time so this now means that 38% of staff were not full time when you exclude exempt staff. So the exempt to non-exempt means that 88 exempt are managing 524 non- exempt staff. Hmmm. This has to change. 1 exempt for every 6 non-exempt staff is excessive in any organization and very expensive. You want change? A savings is to look at the wages paid to 9 foreman positions at with a combined 200% OT (or $200k) there is enough savings here to hire 2-5 non-exempt more staff and paid for through savings in OT.
I read in the news how agreement after agreement is voted down. Years of negotiations keep getting shot down. To this point I am starting to think that reconciliation is not what our people want. There will never be enough to reach an agreement so that the vote is passed. So Chief Teegee, give me one good reason why we should keep trying to satisfy our people when nothing is ever enough. I want to move on but you're not letting me do that. Immigrants are out numbering us and do not care about history, this needs to get done but the desire just isn't there.
Looking at the financial statements we have way too many managers and way too much overtime for union people. Worse we have people in our city that want too darn much and are not willing to pay for it. So deal with it.City, time to look at what we have and figure out how much each thing costs. Then start reducing those services that we can't afford. Yes our protective services costs too much. Solution shrink our boarders. Make PG smaller so we have less to take care of and don't need more more fighters or police. What's really bad, admin and council thinks we're stupid and keeps pushing for more police and more fire fighters.
After seeing that several of our multinational billionaire profit banks applied and received our tax dollars to maintain their own buildings I'm disgusted with this grant and any grant program. In no way should grants or tax exemptions be given to any business/churches with profits like those.
