Council discussing designated encampment report

Encampments should not be allowed in public parks or along public trails. It is unsafe for the general public to have to pass by or through such encampments. Taxpayers paid to have these spaces for their use. I’m tired of feeling unsafe in my own neighbourhood.

It is interesting that Cynthia Olsen was either unable or unwilling to state where these homeless are from. Are they city residents or transient people. Instead she said those most at risk with be housed. So we will be housing non residents of thunder on our taxes. No thank you. Their own communities in the region should be taking care of these individuals. I’ve been reading updates on other cities who have these same homeless villages have very little success moving these people out and onto a productive life. They also have no government funding. These villages are also smaller. Only 50. I think we are going down a slippery slope.

Thank you well said. I totally agree. It has been noted that our homeless population is constantly growing. Word is already out in that community that Thunder Bay provides tents, food , bathrooms etc and allows encampments wherever they want. And when winter comes these people are provided hotel rooms and food free. This new plan will only attract more non residents to our city.

How sad that hard working owners of this franchise are slowly losing their business due to those in our society who choose a life of drugs and crime.

How sad for the residents of that area. But so typical, bureaucrats in Toronto making decisions about land in the north and ignoring the concerns of neighbours and council. It’s just wrong.

Problem is they have already stated at a previous meeting that people cannot be forced to live in a designated encampment. “Due to their human rights approach. “ 4 million dollars for something temporary. City council already approved 4 million from the reserve fund for 6 groups who are building subsidized housing projects. Now another 4 million with the hope that other levels of government will fund this and we can put the money back in reserve. Really???

I agree Mr Skeptical. No need for a building this size when the last one was so much smaller. The old art gallery was not well attended by visitors. What makes them think suddenly people will flock here to view indigenous art.

He attacked a woman unknown to him in Hamilton Ontario in September 2021, 2 days after release from jail and while on probation. If not for a passerby she may have died. He was convicted. He has over 55 convictions. And he has rights??? What about innocent people in our city. I’m sure this will not be published.

I’m sorry but fundraising should have started years ago to show the community that you were serious. The tennis people were on top of fund raising from the get go and look where they are now. You Mr Veneziale have been promising fundraising for at least three years and yet still have no plan to present. Sounds like you just want taxpayers to foot the whole bill.

Very disappointing to see the school board behave in this way. What a loss for people of Tbay who went to those schools and would have loved a little piece of nostalgia. And how much of our education dollars went to fight this ridiculous battle. Money better spent on the kids. Shame on the Lakehead board.

There is absolutely no reason to operate three depots. Everyone has a curb side recycling container. If people really want to haul their recycling to a depot then they shouldn’t mind a little drive either. Come on people!!

Very sad for the animals. I hope they can raise enough money Question has to be asked. Why are there so many fires deliberately set on first nationa

I agree. This seems at odds with the plan to revitalize the downtown core.

Don’t run. Submit peacefully. Or better yet don’t commit crimes in the first place.

This guy just won’t give up!! People were very happy when his last idea for intercity was shot down. Where is this other funding coming from? The money that was to be spent to renovate waverly? From the friends of the library 50/50 draw? If this goes ahead I will stop buying those 50/50 tickets. People are happy with the status quo. We don’t need a library in intercity!!!
