The disagreement Canadians had in December wasn't with the liberal leader it was with the party and it's direction. Trudeau was just a symbol. Nothing will change until an election.
Hmm. Mental health and addiction. Things that the provincially run and funded LPH used to take care of.... Oh wait, I have a solution! In no way am I saying everyone on the street has these issues and for them we need other options. However, Mr Premier, if you can spend over a billion on a new jail how about a few million to fix and staff a facility that never should have closed?
I think the police are doing a good job given the catch and release court system we have at the moment. Unfortunately without doubling the force or halving the number of criminals the situation is unlikely to get much better in the near future.
I'm sure everyone's reason are different however the fact that 9 are still outdoors when space is available means it's a choice. We as a society are not failing to provide. The individuals are choosing to live outdoors rather than conform to the community safety standards and norms. Whether it's mental health or addiction or something else it's still a choice not to seek help at this point. We as the community should be able to choose where you're allowed, and not allowed to live that lifestyle. The downtown cores, public trails, near schools, and community green spaces are not acceptable options no matter the season. Their freedom to live that way should not affect my freedom to live within social norms.
While I agree wholeheartedly that no child should go hungry wouldn't it be better if the price of food, rent and utilities was low enough that parents could afford to buy the food themselves?! Thus increasing the dignity of self reliance and teaching the children the value of their efforts. Who would not rather a hand up than a handout?
This is a health care issue plain and simple. Homelessness is a symptom not the disease. Health care is the responsibility of the provincial and federal government. The province needs to build a new facility capable of treating and housing hundreds for mental health and addiction issues. Patty, Lise, Kevin the city and the region need you to work together to make this happen! Whether it's on the old LPH grounds or somewhere else. It's something you could spend taxpayer money on that most people wouldn't complain about
Since Thunder Bay serves the entire region either the hospital needs to step up or another pharmacy needs to step in. This is a health care necessity not a luxury.
I give up. Been through that border commercially over a thousand times. Zero excuse for this. Hopefully customs release the security video for educational purposes. Maybe somebody will ask Bison where they get these amateurs from and who gave them a license.
Better yet tear down and rebuild as an addiction and mental health treatment facility like it was before. No new zoning required. No change in ownership. And finally one stop shop for all the people who desperately need it.
The Italian hall was built, and paid for by members of the Italian community. Any other group of people is also able to do the same. Gather your community members, create a fund from within, purchase land and build if that is what the people want.
As a taxpayer I love this idea. Millions of our collective dollars have already been spent in this area. Not everyone uses it including me. Now the users have to pay a little to help maintain the area. This is completely reasonable.
Well since we don't see any reasonable explanation... Take the individual's license away. Forever! If it was an 18 wheeler people would be screaming murder. 105 in a community safety zone where children play?! Next to the hospital ? Time to hang up the keys.
