What is it that Carney has done so far that is noteworthy? As for Trudeau, wish he would have met Katy Perry earlier. Perhaps he would have left the office of Prime Minister sooner, minimizing the damage. All opposition parties from this day forward should maybe call the rock stars of the world and dangle them as bait to leave office.
Add that teachers do not work a full year. Teachers complain endlessly about requiring assistants as their work loads are too high. The solution is a simple one. Work year round and prepare for each day that students are at school or have schools operate with students year round. When breaking down teacher's salaries vs days worked, they make a killing. Include every benefit, gold pension plans etc etc etc. It's so very insulting when teachers strike and use we are on strike for the students of to make the student experience that much better! Please.....
Don't look past them, expect them to be lies. Majority of the current council ran on platforms against the $55 million arena. Once into power, the grease was applied and suddenly all changed their mind. A ridiculous waste of money especially when infrastructure of the city are failing it's constituents. Enjoy that single lane on Lakeshore on your way to that arena. So much money for so few people that will actually use it.
Snowmobiles have been using that trail for decades without issue. It's the only trail that eventually connects Trout Lake to Nippisssing. Missing in this conversation is what snowmobile tourism brings in the form of monies to businesses that require these monies for winter income in North Bay and surrounding area. For some, it's critical. There are plenty of trails that are accessible to snowshoeing where snowmobiles are not allowed. Let's respect both sports and stop trying to take one sport down over another. There's plenty of nature from Mattawa to Bonfield to North Bay to Calender to Sturgeon Falls and Powassan. I could go on. Let's all play nice, the sand box is big enough to support Snowmobiling, Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing.
Build it and they will come. The highway going north to Cochrane and west to Dryden have been ignored for the last 50 years. I'll add with others that Canada is not prepared for more growth. We did not have the homeless problem that we have today with the invasion that Ontario has faced. Politicians have no clue. They failed our country by not preparing it for growth. Until we're ready and solve the homeless problem, immigration needs to be put on hold. We need to take care of our own first and foremost.
While the traffic might be a little heavier, these problems with Northern Ontario highways closing down were extremely rare. I used to drive from Cochrane to North Bay for over a decade back in the 1990's and the highway was never closed during winter months. Was the highway always perfect, no. One could still drive it and get where they wanted a little slower but still get to destinations. When the MTO highways maintenance contracts were sold to a company from Australia, that was the sign of of things to come. They sold and I stopped paying attention as to who has the contracts today.I remember a year or two ago the government a private study was released for HWY 11 north of North Bay and their advice: install more digital signs like the one on HWY 17 West near the hospital. That was it. That's what that report suggested for 11 North. This is what we're dealing with when a government wants to build underground hwys. The North should get signs. MTO needs to be reinstated.
Outrageous moves?Let's talk Hydro shall we. Wynn sold off Hydro for no real reason. Since, our hydro has gone up by a lot. Ford, borrows to pay for the immense/outrageous rate hikes. This one move alone speaks volumes of Ford trying to ease the burden of hydro rate hikes. Thanks for that one Liberals. One of the biggest provincial political blunders ever. I will never vote liberal for either level of government. Between Wynn and Trudeau including the current Federal Liberal government, this country is a disaster.
Once that government door is opened, it can't be closed. More rules more nonsense. Here's a helping hand parents, check out Commodore phones. Not a plug. Very legitimate and a very popular name from the past that parents should look into for their kids.
BCK10..The community needs a lot more other than another bloody arena. That $55 million could have been spent much more wisely. The arena will serve so few vs other projects that desperately need funding. The final tally of the arena build will guarantee cost overruns. To think, most of the current council were voted in for their stance against the arena. Once in, the grease was applied and suddenly all were in favor. Such a corrupt system without oversight. This arena proves that. Now, our infrastructure is falling apart. That $55 million could have done so much more if properly spent.
When government makes a huge miscalculation by allowing more immigrants into the country than should have been allowed, situations where minor variants keeps one under a roof, it must be considered. Homelessness didn't exist as it does today before COVID and Trudeau. That bell must be unrung and the country deserves to be handed over to the Canadians that suffered via being homeless. Am I saying building codes should be ignored? No, not during a build. If someone who is poor and cannot afford to bring their residence up to par, help should be administered rather than kicking someone off their property effectively making them homeless.
I personally don't know Mr. Vezina, his service at the hospital in itself makes him a hero in my eyes. We need more gentlemen like Mr. Vezina in this world please....
As someone who was involved in a serious MVA I can honestly say that when the tough get going the insurers disappear. Coverage is a farce.Insurers are some of the richest corporations in Canada and act accordingly. They write their own rules while governments fear them. How insurers are allowed to operate the way they do is criminal. Take advantage of people who are at their weakest. Dragging claims for over a decade at times with nothing to lose on their end. Then, there are the personal injury attorneys. It is all an assembly line where everyone makes bank except the people who are injured and killed. This nonsense of contingency, we don't get paid unless you do. The catch, $10 dollars can be viewed as a victory, after that they want payment.. The attorneys expect six figures 60-80% of the settlement offer while the injured simply want out. They starve accident victims into settlements. Private investigators etc. Such a slimy way to make money. How do these people sleep?
Out of all the comments one point is not addressed. While many conservatives are crossing the floor, ask why?Conservative MP's do not have confidence in Poillievre and are leaving in droves as a result. Canada is not voting in favor of the Liberals, they are voting against Poillievre. It's unfortunate especially due to the Liberals decimation of Canada with their foolish ideology. It will take decades to balance the books after this Liberal run. Our deficit will cost Canadians large within the next 10 years.
Years and years ago they spent a fortune on a digital sign that allows for digital graphics on their sign at the rear of the center on McIntire. My opinion is that this sign was a mistake. The reason? It shows everything under the sun except for the upcoming shows. It was my only way to easily check out what was coming up. It was perfect. Far from what the current sign offers. I sometimes hear what has played afterwards and be disappointed at what I missed. As much as I preferred the old sign, the digital screen can easily handle what is coming up at the Capitol Center. One single page of who, what and when that on the sign 24/7.Is that too much to ask?
Not sure why you're being downvoted for what is a true comment. To the gentleman in the story I ask, will you be doing anything different in your basement for spring thaws from April 14th onward? I would. Do tons of reading. There are plenty of things you can do outside between the house and the lake that could help. As for your basement sir, I recommend items off the floor. Build benches for storage off the floor etc etc.....I've been in your shoes and they were extremely uncomfortable. If this Super Elninõ occurs this summer, expect a very similar spring next year if not worse. I truly hope I'm wrong but being prepared is your best defense. Good luck sir.
What a waste of more money. It's like watching city police driving around in a pick up truck of all things...each year asking for budget increases. Remember when police used to use sedans? Notice any policing improvements with SUV's or pick up trucks?....lolPolice should be using small fuel efficient vehicles to try and save taxpayers some money for a change. What have emergency services done without an ATV for all these years? The time it will take to unload that thing from its straps will take an eternity. What's not mentioned in this story? The trailer the ATV will need for transport. The truck that will be needed to pull that trailer with a ATV in it. It will have to be an HD pick up truck to haul all that weight. Will all these vehicles now sit and wait for an emergency to happen? The process of getting this thing to an emergency site alone will negate it's usefulness.
Trump is forcing companies to move to the States or else. His strategy worked. You're complaining about high taxes and the socialist running out of money? Be sure to throw money out of your car window when you drive by the $55 million arena. A community that already has THREE arenas! THIS is where your money goes. Everything you mention does not cost $55 million++(wait for it) in a single year. Solve egos and you may have a fighting chance balancing budgets.
A study last year recommended more digital signs like the one installed on 17W near the falls. That was it for their recommendations.I used to drive in the North in the 90's. Moved to Cochrane for the job and would come back to the Bay for family and friends every weekend. Not once, not one time was the 11 North/South highway closed. Not once. That was back when the MTO were in control of clearing and keeping that highway open. Same weather. Same road. The problem? Bring back MTO and put them back in control to do clearing and maintenance of the highways. That would be one major step in the right direction. There was a palatable difference once contracts for clearing the highways were passed onto 3rd party corporations. The first corporation to buy up the contracts were from Australia. That's no typo. Our government hard at work..Signs are not going to cut it. Government will have to listen to the people that vote them into the positions to govern. Do your job people.
Elon Musk publically expressed his view on climate change and said it is exaggerated and occuring at the pace claimed. He has one of the highest stakes in climate change as his Tesla vehicles are sold on the basis of being more climate friendly. For Elon to say such a comment is more relevant than what others claim.Add the the father of climate change, a career politician, Al Gore reaching Vice President made at the most $150,000.00 per year, now cruises the world on his $250 million yacht year round. How can he afford such luxuries? His fortune was made on pushing a narrative. Add that his carbon footprint(a term invented by BP Oil) is hypocritical. We can all calm down when it comes to climate change. Ask who benefits from climate change studies before blindly believing what they spew.
