Protesters rally in opposition of involuntary care

How many of these protesters make their living supplying services to the brain injured, mentally ill, or severely addicted? People whose injuries are a cause of violent and disturbing behaviors are a threat to themselves as well as others. Some people are not capable of making rational decisions for themselves no matter how many voluntary services are provided them. Better involuntary care and public safety rather than the road we are currently traveling.

Enough already! There can't be anything more to burn down there! There are a number of housing units available for Prince George homeless. Where is the judge who allowed this mess to continue? Right, doesn't live in Prince George or anywhere near moccasin flats.

Is not the RCMP media relations officer ashamed to say someone starting fires outside a public building is not an emergency and to call the non-emergency number? How many more fires does an individual have to start, putting children's and senior's lives at risk, before 911 takes active arson events serious? What happens if this individual does the same thing at a local elementary school? “9-1-1 should be used for life-or-death priority calls and we have to be little bit choosy when we think about what is a life-or-death priority because there’s only a small amount of 9-1-1 phone lines available for all of northern B.C.” said Cooper." A little bit choosy?! I am curious what the other more priority files were. I am disgusted.

Strange how the city has not set up security cameras in secure places to monitor who or why these structures are going up in flames especially since there is a cost each and every time the fire department must answer these nuisance calls.

Just another excuse for council members to pat themselves on the back for decisions not made and work not done.

Now we know why the push to move Mr PG from his current location. How much is this little pie in the sky venture costing the citizens of Prince George? Details about who and how much seems to be seriously lacking in this article.

Was at London Drugs this morning. When I came out one of Prince George's finest citizens was stumbling through the parking lot checked out the interiors of all the parked vehicles. He was so stoned he could hardly walk. Yeah, poor soul, lets give him free of charge and no work, nice accommodations, furniture, food, clothing, and all the drugs he wants. After all, aren't individuals like this the ones our governments think our taxes should be supporting?

What has happened to common sense in this city, this province, this country? Is not a facility whose clients are substance abstinent what we want? This particular site has operated for the last four years. How many of you have never heard of it before this council meeting? I have no problem with a quiet, clean, discreet facility that is drug and alcohol free operating in my neighborhood. Would probably be preferable to some of the neighbors I currently have.

The city is quick to offer their sympathy but words are cheap. Downtown businesses and tax paying citizens of Prince George need actions with consequences. There are too many politicians in this country that are only in the job for the perks and pensions. Judges and crown councils are no better. Drug possession laws should have been toughened not loosened. People who do not abide by the laws should be incarcerated. Ethnicity should have no bearing on sentencing. Favoring one race over another is discriminatory. Build more jails if we need to as it would be far cheaper than the road we are currently travelling.

I think the article heading should read that crime rate in Prince George is down due to NON-REPORTED crime.

Let it burn! Push it in a pile with a dozer and let it burn until there is nothing left. Far better for the Miller Addition residents who have put up with multiple fires over the years. Far better for the environment than having gas powered vehicles hauling multiple loads of heavens knows what to the local land fill where it can leach into other areas.

Peter Santenello is a Youtuber that travels the US filming, without judgement, everyday citizens and situations. His latest video is "Los Angeles - What It's Really Like Now". Scroll to 10.29 for the No Chance Foundation and listen to the worker. The unhoused in LA have everything given to them, free food, free clothing, and if they want it, free shelter. But they don't want the shelter because they have to follow the rules. They rather live on the street. Sound familiar? What really galls me is that the judge wants PG to provide housing with daytime activities. If I want daytime activities I have to find it and in most instances, pay for it myself. Most activities have a cost. It's bad enough we have to provide food, clothing, housing, and dope but our judicial system also expects us to provide entertainment for the unhoused as well. I am so sick and tired of this charade.

Couldn't agree with you more. Our provincial government must tell Canfor to go pound sand. The unharvested trees belong to the people of BC and are not Canfor's to sell.

A bug bear of mine is when the Provincial Ministry of Health divided up the province into individual health authorities to supposedly provide better regional health coverage. Yeah sure, five regional boards each one with a board of directors, Northern Health has 10 directors, and executive teams to run each board. These people do not work for peanuts and we the public pay for their salaries and perks while dealing with hospital closures and cries of no money to keep facilities open nor money to pay for more staff. Instead of our colleges and universities courting international students, our government should be opening up and funding more seats to train Canadian students as doctors, and nurses. The ineptitude of our provincial government is astounding. While our health services crumble they spend our tax dollars by buying old hotels at inflated prices to provide low barrier housing for the homeless and drug addicted, free rooms, meals, naloxone, and health care provided.

A&W on 20th Avenue shuts down

Another victim of the deterioration of downtown Prince George. The causes of this decline will continue to spread further afield from Moccasin Flats as governments continue to provide more services to those that take advantage of governments and bleeding hearts largess.

The province should stop this deal. The standing timber is not Canfor's to sell. Canfor ripping off British Columbians for their shareholders.

So very pleased to hear this good news! What a wonderful turn out of volunteers and search and rescue organizations who came together to search for this little girl. Kudos to everyone involved in making this very happy ending!

Where and when did the plea deal to a lesser charge come from? If someone is charged with murder than the charge should be murder. No second-degree or manslaughter. The same with any other crime. Every criminal has an excuse or three for their criminal behaviour. Each one claims that some outside person, event, or situation is to blame. Each one claims but, but, but, it was not my fault or it was beyond my control. Each repeat offender when caught claims I have seen the light, I have amended my ways, I will never do that again, ad infinitum. In this case, it is just sheer luck that no one was shot by an individual who was using drugs while suffering from mental health issues and who had access to a firearm. Sheer luck that in his psychosis he did not shoot the individual's house he was standing outside. Sheer luck that the bullets did not exit his house. Hopefully the courts will take this situation seriously because if there is a next time, luck may become unlucky.

I question Mr Yu's assertion that this project will be beneficial to Prince George and its current residents. With dwindling timber supplies, closing mills, and a bleak outlook for replacement industries that would take years in making, despite what Yu says, what we don't need are more bodies including fast tracked immigrants.

Prince George cannot provide a cost of what the unhoused and drug addicted at Moccasin Flats, and soon to be North Star and Knight's Inn, cost tax payers because they, conveniently, do not keep track of the costs. One thing that's consistent is that many of the costs are downloaded to the city by the provincial government and it's associated agencies.
