That's how our city operates. Just keep flogging a dead horse. Unbelievable! It was the city that promoted moving business to Great Northern Road to get them out of the city downtown core, let the downtown run down to the point that nobody wants to go there because its not safe to shop there Businesses have to lock their doors during business hours to protect staff and their busnesses. Now the city cries that it has to revitalize the area and convinces the government to finance their foibles. What a tremendous waste of tax-payers money. It's time for a change at city hall.
Another bullet point on Shoemakers legacy of frivolously over-spending taxpayers money. I totally agree with the comments of Soojavu. this site has sat for years as it is , yet all of a sudden this becomes a priority. Interesting to see who finaly gets the prime waterfront prize.
Why should we support "safe consumption sites. Social use of these drugs is illegal unless used at safe consumption site, then all can be legally used. Why should the public support the use of illegal drugs and pay someone to stand by with a naloxone shot to revive the user? Everyone using drugs knows, or should know, the consequences of using them is addiction and possibly death. Mental health is not the only reason for the addiction. Safe injection sites are encouraging and contributing to the problem by allowing illegal drug use.
I presume this means scraping the ice from the streets, which means huge piles of ice left in driveways, which is beyond the means of most homeowners, especially seniors, to remove. What ever happened to the city loaders that used to follow the graders/plows to scoop out driveways as they were filled with the ice. I realize there is a cost to this and also weather conditions that have to be considered, however, I don't believe the city is anywhere near their snow removal budget for this year yet, so some consideration should be given the taxpayers under these circumstances as a driveway clogged with ice by Public Works can result in major emergencies delays if access cannot be gained to the residents in need.
The work-at-home enthusiasts have been accustomed to their own schedule rather than have to commit to getting up in the morning and going to work. They complain about having kids to look after and the schedules they have to keep. WAKE UP PEOPLE. why do you think your employer or anyone else should be responsible for your kid and their schedules. As a seniors who always worked outside the home and Managed however they could and survived. They have didn't have the choice to sleep in and work when they felt like it. Burt that was the norm in our day. If you didn't want to get out of bed and go tyo work you didn't have a job.
Maybe the city should put our water system back the way it used to be and get rid of the chemicals they use that clog up taps and shower heads, and toilet bowls with black sludge, and give us drinkable water again. That may help improve the cancer situation the city.
The total cost should be recouped through the sale of the property to developers that are interested in developing the property. I wonder who determines the "affordable housing" value. This is prime waterfront property.
Perri says the city does not remove windrows at the end of driveways. I have lived in the same house for 45 yrs and recall the times the city had a loader following the grader/plow that was scraping the street down and the loader cleared the windrow in driveways as they went. The also had a policy that they would come and clear seniors, handicapped driveways if the total height of the windrow was 24". Apparently they don't do that anymore either. So much for the people trying to stay in their own homes rather tag going into some form of housing.
I wonder when the city is going to clear enough snowbanks to allow visibility and a safe entry onto any street. Visibility is none-existant at just about every intersection when trying to gain access to any street that is a through street anywhere.
Cellphones and the apps they support are a convenience in today's world, not a necessity. It is up to parents to educate their kids in the proper and acceptable use of these tools. I don't understand why parents think the onus should be on every one else to ensure the proper use of the cell phone when they hand them to their kids. School board employees should not be expected to police this situation, just ban cellphones in schools and on school board property. It seems that everyone survived just fine before the celphone craze.
"Mr Sheehan says "this is how our government continues to work toward making life more affordable for workers and everyday Canadians". If that is really the case and they were really concerned about helping Canadians, just eliminate the HST/Gst on everything forever, then we might believe they are serious and not just looking at a looming election.
Are these bike parking shelters going to have a time limit on parking there, like city parking areas, or is it going to be first first served for as long as they want to keep their lock on? What about the rest of the people that want a secure bike parking spot when they go downtown? Apparently the citydid not consider this aspect of these cans when they decided to spend a ridiculous amount of money for a useless cause. Does anyone at city hall have the ability to make a sensible decision when it comes to spending taxpayers money?
