The cost of healthcare for the average Canadian through taxes is about $8,000 CDN/year.The cost of healthcare for the average American with private plans is about $14,000 USD/year.The large profits the insurance companies make has to come from somewhere.
The first thing Hitler did was replace any and all opposition with Hitler loyalists. As we see the appointment of Trump loyalists in Finance, the courts, the military, most government departments. Both got support from the very rich and both pressured the media into supporting his policies. Immigrants or jews are handy targets. There are many similarities of these two far-right populist movements.
Then you are the reason they lose money every year. They are bound by law to deliver every to every hamlet in the country. Places private operators find unprofitable and won’t go. Canada post is also regulated by what they can charge while others are not. It serves the public and we need to appreciate that. You obviously do not. You keep using the foreign owned services that siphon the profits out of our country. That not good for any of us.
Yup. It’s true. 80% of folks opposed to the carbon tax have absolutely no idea how it works. In essence it is a rebate system, not a tax. Even the National Post agrees. But if you hate Trudeau it will be a tax.
He already has a mandate. He can do as he likes for the next year and a half with his majority. Anybody that buys his argument that he needs a mandate is not paying attention or doesn’t care about the hundreds of millions being spent.
What a Boo-Hoo article. I shed not a tear for folks that need to buy the necessities like Luxury yachts and cards and games and guns and amo. Oh my god, they pay HST? How unfair. Time to look for other sources. In this area, not too long ago, we had a thriving boat building industry. Why did we not support them then? Free trade was the battle cry when Mulroney went to the shamrock summit meeting with Regan. Free-trade destroyed our industries and we let it happen because we trusted the US. No more. Maybe we'll pay a bit more to support local. The problem is not with our politicians. They are trying to play hardball with a weak hand. Can you imagine how many Air-mile points that Ford has racked up recently? The problem is Trump and Trump alone. There is no reasoning here. He'll just move the goalposts. Lets build our own industries again and support them even after Trump is gone. Which can't be soon enough.
The city spend big bucks in ads and outreach to attract non-residents. There is a whole department at city hall to do just that. Does it therefore make sense to discourage them by charging them for parking while others are free? Orillia should be a welcoming place. That's how our businesses do well and we can enjoy the company.
Do we really need a "community food strategy co-ordinator"? No.Do we really need to buy a piece of equipment for $850,000 if we can rent it for $45,000/yr?
Just thoughts as I sit here in the dark. When Hydro1 took over Orillia power distribution I welcomed the move thinking the additional resources would get us better service. This has not been the case. We can blame the severity of the ice storm as an excuse, but we have never had to wait 3 days to have our power restored. That’s just a fact. Orillia still owns the power generating station at the Big Shute so a supply is not the issue. Just bring on the resources we expected. As the nations largest power company it’s time to move in extra help.
Yes we need affordable housing. Yes we need low income rentals. But that doesn’t mean all developers must build only that. There is still a need for smaller new units in Orillia. Adding these at this location is great.
