POLL: Younger readers happier with Donald Trump's win

I am blown away by any a Canadian who thinks Trump, who has a documented record of violence against women and who is promising to cause global inflation through massive tariffs, was the better choice. Especially here in a steeltown! A lot of our steel goes across the border. We can also expect our grocery prices to skyrocket once he starts deporting undocumented farm workers, which make up nearly half of all American farm workers.

I understand this guy's frustration but HELLO???? HEALTHCARE IS A PROVINCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. Doug Ford is in charge! He knows the main drivers of the family dr. shortage are terrible pay and too much paperwork yet does NOTHING so every year dozens of family med. residencies are going unfilled. Instead Ford has been focusing on offloading more healthcare responsibility on for-profit pharmacists. AND he's underspent on healthcare and failed to actually spend billions the feds gave him. As for housing costs, again, housing is provincial! The province could be doing a LOT more to stop rich investors from buying up all the housing. But guess what, Doug's wealthy pals who own lots of real estate don't want that to happen. They like housing and rental costs being through the roof. I get that a lot of people are sick of the PM, but you lose credibility when you blame him for things that are not his fault. I WOULD like to see him do more to go after large price-gouging grocery chains.

Pierre Poilievre and the entire Conservative caucus are rated as against reproductive rights for women, just like Trump. PP launches constant personal and negative attacks against political opponents, just like Trump. PP pretends to be a man of the people, just like Trump, when he actually is a tool of the uber-rich, just like Trump. PP is in complete denial about climate change when whole cities are burning down and weather continues to get more extreme, just like Trump. PP blames the party in power for high prices when it's wealthy corporations that are doing the price gouging, just like Trump. All PP does is complain and point fingers. He does not provide positive solutions for anything. He will bring nothing but more misery and negativity to our country if he becomes prime minister.

100% behind you on this one, Mayor Shoemaker. We should be listening to those working in addiction treatment, especially given the horrifically high overdose rate in our community. Multiple studies have shown that safe consumption sites save lives and do not lead to increased crime. Doug Ford is reacting emotionally based on one incident in Toronto. How many people are going to die unnecessarily because Ford has closed his mind? Ford is a wrecking ball, wandering around the province and breaking everything. The next election can't come soon enough.

Outdoor cats live shorter lives for obvious reasons, and they kill a huge number of birds in Canada every year. Like, more than 100 million. They're essentially an invasive species when they get into the environment. They're not native and they cause significant harm.

Delightful. Getting in bed with the devil who is setting his sights on destroying American democracy and is now looking to do the same for Canada as well. This is not about partisan politics. Elon Musk is the richest person in the world and no man should have as much political and financial power as he now has. It's extremely dangerous. The oligarchs are winning, and far too many ordinary working people are carrying water for them. If you're sticking up for the richest man in the world, you really need to reassess.

I'm not hugely supportive of adding advertising to the hub trail but I find it interesting that people don't want their taxes to go up but they're also not receptive to innovative ways to produce more income for the city. I'd think it's great that the city is trying to come up with new revenue streams even if every idea doesn't land well with the public.

We signed the cheque when we elected them. We can unsign it at the next election.

I'm popping some popcorn! Can't wait to read the comments. 🤣 I don't think it's great that they paid as much as they did, but I look forward to this property no longer being a dangerous eyesore. The status quo was untenable.

I wish Village Media were clear about what their polls mean. The headline "Most readers back union in LCBO strike" is misleading. These polls are likely not conducted in a way designed to accurate represent all readers. The headline should read, "Most readers who are inclined to respond to online news media polls back union in LCBO strike." Poll results could differ drastically from what ALL readers/all Ontarians actually think. People likely to respond to polls could be more or less liberal or conservative than the average reader or Ontarians overall. For example, some refuse to do news media online polls because the media gather personal data, aggregate it, then use it for targeting ads to the individual. They may not know your name but based on poll responses plus other things like cookies, they can figure out a LOT about those at given IP address. So there being a group of people who refuses to complete these polls for privacy reasons likely skews results.

None of this has anything to do with the YMCA. And the city is not doing heated sidewalks so stop talking about that.

Another misleading headline. This is not 3/4 of readers. This is 3/4 of the people who answered this poll. Any article about Trudeau pulls in an excessive proportion of anti-Trudeau folks. You cannot generalize this to all Sootoday readers or the general population. In the interests of accuracy and clarity, Sootoday needs to be more clear about what these poll results represent.PS I'm not a Liberal voter. I just don't like seeing misleading headlines.

Why did you take this article personally? It's not meant to insult seniors. It's meant to point out that with an aging population, there are very real challenges, and those challenges are more difficult to solve when your city has proportionately more seniors and thus proportionately fewer workers.

Sudbury is switching to a drone show. This is the future of such celebrations. Fireworks contain plastic, toxic chemicals and heavy metals. I can't condone blowing them up over the St Mary's River. Plus fireworks also can traumatize wildlife so badly that they abandon their young.

At a time when our healthcare system is completely falling apart, millions without a family doctor, ERs overloaded, Doug Ford is focused on making alcohol, which creates healthcare issues, more easily available. His priorities are very telling. He thinks he can buy people with beer and they will forget about the fact that he's destroying healthcare, education, and the environment.

This is one of the most egregious examples of misogyny by Sootoday that I've seen in a long time. This resolution has been brought forward by TWO councillors: Sonny Spina & Angela Caputo. But the article is deliberately worded to target Ms Caputo for abuse from members of the public! Why is only her name in the headline?? Where's the vitriol for Sonny Spina in the comments? And commenters are conveniently overlooking that the Ford government wants to meddle in municipal decisions making about roads/traffic flow. This is the worst provincial government in Ontario history. If you want to be mad at someone, take it out on Ford. This is big government overreach. We elected this city council to make decisions about how best to manage traffic. We don't need a bunch of bureaucrats in Southern Ontario who have no understanding of life in a small northern city to tell us how to do it. If you don't like this council, you can vote them out the next time around.

Like many other government programs, higher education has experienced massive funding shortfalls. AU and SC did what they thought was best to stay sustainable...take advantage of international students who are willing to pay a lot more for their education. It was a gamble...and that gamble may no longer be paying off. As people criticize AU and SC for doing this, keep in mind that their having to ax programs also comes at a cost to our community. Ironic to me that so many will not give a second thought to large polluting industries belching out carcinogens for years but then snipe at colleges and universities for trying to stay afloat by bringing in international students. Our community WILL feel impacts if lots of programs are shut down and AU/SC staff are put out of work.

Also, the headline on this poll is misleading! It's not most people. It's not even most readers. It's most people who responded to an online poll, which is not a scientific/representative sample of readers or the public at large. People who have strong feelings AGAINST something are more likely to complete an online poll.

I'm also a senior and am puzzled by your response to this article. In no way did I interpret it as a criticism of seniors. The reality is, though, that an aging demographic presents challenges. For example, the higher the average age of the population, the more nursing home beds you need, and then you need more nursing home staff. And finding enough of those these days can be challenging, which drives up wages, which drives up taxes, and that comes with consequences. This is complicated stuff!
