'I'll never roll over': Ford and Trump both vow strength ahead of trade meeting
51
I’ve watched Lutnick. My sense is that he’s just a loose cannon. He states one thing indicating wiggle room that gets Canadian hopes up then behind closed doors Trump redirects this puppet back on Trump’s hardline. Ford suspended Ontario’s surcharge on electricity because Lutnick indicated the administration would negotiate in good faith. Well, I now fear that Ford is heading into a similar “Zelensky” trap. So my advice to Premier Ford is to cancel his trip to Washington, indicate he will negotiate a deal only if and when Trump shows respect for the people of Ontario and the government which they democratically elected. Oh, and I forgot one other thing Premier Ford, flip the switch to OFF!

Sir, with respect, here’s an English spelling lesson for you. It’s “over there”, and “anyway” and in “due” time.

Re sending troops to Greenland, sorry to disagree but I believe this is necessary to uphold our integrity with our NATO partners. I was disappointed we lagged behind them when other partner nations stepped up. We should be ashamed given our military history. Despite Trump’s tariff blackmail all of us must stand tall and together. Sometimes standing up for what’s right is all we must do otherwise we’re really morally bankrupt.

What delays? It’s a “bridge too far” for me. I’m uninterested in whatever exists on it’s southern side. I’m committed to support the economy on the True North Strong And Free side.

To those who organized Elbows Up and may be offended by the negative comments you have read. To me, you are heroic for stepping up to confirm the patriotism we are feeling for Canada. You do understand that no matter what positive contributions citizens make to better life in the Sault there will always be a litany of criticism expressed on this digital media site. For every good intention by folks who are committed to stepping up and making positive impacts on our city there are closeted uninspired individuals who love to denigrate so many initiatives. These are people whose glass is half empty. This city has wonderful people but there is a small minority with some kind of life grudge that use social media to try to pull all of us down with them. To those in other Village Media sites across Ontario who read the negative trash about Elbows Up, yes sadly, this is some of what the Sault is all about. But please know that most of us are doing our best to improve life in our city.

What an outstanding photograph!Patience with preparation are essential in wildlife photography as is being fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. It’s a sad commentary that this photo could have been generated by AI. I find it demoralizing that we now live in an era when everyone suspects everything to be fake.

In an unpredictable time in Canadian history these seven men led by Darrell Fox reconfirm what all Canadians can accomplish together. Their example of dreaming big and uniting in a common purpose to see those dreams achieved is a timely example of the Canadian way, a commitment to assist those in need while raising our pride in a homeland we can all be proud of. Great job guys! Terry will be smiling.

Vic Duguay, hope to see you on the next ballot, you as well Jay92, and acb1970, what will you run on, as for AprilMarshall I’m looking forward to your tax cut program when you run. Tom.L, maybe once elected you can manage city finances. As for you Bigblock, your ideas are important so I expect to see your name on the ballot. Pointblank, we need your financial expertise in the next council, and all the rest of you who complain over and over through your phones, please get out on the hustings, run for election, we obviously need your expertise to make our city great again.

About the Trump Presidency, I’m waiting 12 months from Inauguration Day, January 20 2025, to actually see the economic fallout for Algoma Steel, the state of our city’s and Canada’s economy, the inflation rate in Canada and the strength of the NATO alliance before weighing in on the Trump effect. But I’m currently very worried. Stay tuned.

I agree completely. Our Mayor represented the twin Saults with poise, common sense, and sent an important message to Americans. Sadly, it probably will fall on deaf ears.

This is not a Trump created issue. It’s a long standing Democratic Governor, Gretchen Witmer’s promise to her constituents to force Enbridge to stabilize this old pipeline or Michigan will close it down. Enbridge hasn’t done much to alleviate the State’s historical environmental concerns about Line 5.I fear that Ontario’s propane prices will soar if this legal action succeeds.

Doug Bradford is a Sault artistic treasure and his daughter Cindy is equally artistically talented although Doug modestly would probably say she surpasses him. You must see their works at the new Sault Legion building to appreciate the gift this family has given to our city and it’s military history.

The question remains how viable will this company be? It’s currently only 4 cents a share. Are you willing to support this project? I’m not. Check this site: https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/quote/GT1.AX/As of April 17 2025 4:10 PMthe delayed quote was $0.04 a share.

Having lived and driven for decades on the two lane TransCanada highway north of the Sault I’ve learned to adjust to increasing traffic, especially the transport truck traffic. It’s only logical to be as defensive as possible by yielding to those who drive aggressively. What I want to suggest for discussion and viewpoints is that the two lanes north of Batchawana Bay through to Wawa should not be expanded to 4 lanes. This drive on two lanes is iconic because of the landscape and the lake vistas. A four lane highway, costly as it would be, could never enhance what so many have experienced driving one of Ontario’s most scenic routes on two lanes.

If you think you’ll be laid off remember the ‘80’s when Newfoundland cod fish moratorium occurred and fishermen moved to Fort Mac. for work in the oil patch. Sandvik is opening a huge plant in Sudbury and will be looking for lots of skilled labour. It isn’t that far away to move compared to the move Newfies made.

Your response is the most common sense, scientifically accurate, and ecologically significant regarding this spraying proposal. I’m heartened to read that many other commenters are smart enough to know that aerial spraying is no longer acceptable. Stand your ground!

So true. You have to drive that highway regularly in winter to fully appreciate how squalls off the lake severely impact visibility.

I agree wholeheartedly. Why is it that the “invented wheel” to a problem is never studied or considered. Like this one from the link above.“The Ivry-Paris XIII plant has two identical, 50-tonne/hour capacity furnace-boiler units and a turbine generator. The heat generated by combustion produces electricity, which is injected into the EDF network, or steam reinjected into the Parisian district heating system.Combustion by-products are recovered as clinker. Transported by river, they are treated and reused in road building. Metal by-products are reused in the metalworking industry.”

I’d rather donate to this SAH fundraiser that guarantees the Sault a win and also me with a matching donation by the Hilsinger family than waste my money on a wishful low odds bet to win any lottery.
