He might well know that neighbour well enough to make that comment. You, on the other hand, probably know neither Mr. Mero or the neighbour, yet you feel qualified to discount his opinion. I know many people with disabilities that work, so having a disability doesn't automatically give you a "get-out-of-jail-free-card" to not have employment.
Pretty naive to think that anyone you might elect will be better. Politicians are all "in it for themselves". Elect a Conservative if you must. You will all be back here six months later begging for a Liberal/NDP/Green Party member. It is the nature of the beast.
Well said. I saw this coming and mentioned it in previous stories here. This city should not be baling out private entities, charitable or not. $500,000 "comes with some risk", ... yeah, right. This city will be on the hook for a lot more than $500 k before this is done. It makes me sick to think these councillors spend our money like we have it growing in our back yards. I will bet councillor Kinach votes against this.
The biggest threat to our sovereignty comes from the USA, not other nations of the world. Canada could triple the military spending and still not produce an armed forces that would defend us from a US invasion. The Manifest Destiny and the Project For The New American Century have other ideas.
APaquet, ... the Conservatives have been union busting for decades, they are not a friend of unions. You are pouring the Flavour-aid, but no one is drinking it.
I can tell you the answer they will get from this motion. The reason the speed limit won't raised is because there are intersections that directly enter the highway and cross an entire two lanes to reach lanes on the opposite side (think the intersections like Belleau Lake Road, Syrette Lake Road, Church Street, Watson Road, Bar River Road, and every road east of there until the two lane two way traffic. None of the Southern Ontario 110 km/h highways have those situations. The difference in distance travelled is the 110 km/h car will travel 45 feet further with the average reaction time of 2.5 seconds to apply the brakes. Then there is the additional stopping distance due to momentum. Nope, keep it at 90 km/h and keep people safe.
Maybe the voters should start a "Go Fund Me' to reimburse Mr. Kinach for his lost wages if council decides to punish him. BTW, ... since when is his money for being a city councillor called a "wage"?, ... I thought it was considered an "Honorarium"?
The good news is the actual sales of steel from Algoma exceeds the projected sale for the past year. Algoma sales are primarily $1.7 billions to the USA, while Canadian and other world markets make up $1.4 billion. By switching to a steel that world markets are seeking, this will change the sales trend for the next while. He is right. If Algoma had not had the transition in place for ARF type steel, there would be more layoffs, and even a potential shutdown.
Why doesn't the city just appropriate the property, just as they did when they built Carmen's Way and bought up houses along Hudson Street? All they need is am imaginary project to justify it before the courts. They only then have to offer "fair market value", as they did for houses on Hudson, St. Georges, and Cathcart. I would think that was a no-brainer.
Canada has 1700 active YMCAs across the country. The average membership is a little more than 1350 per facility. The fact our Y can't be viable with 1600 members shows there is something wrong. This city should drop this venture like a hot potato.
You can always create an Excel software sheet where you could enter the amount paid without the IT update, and have it calculate how much would have been not paid in GST, and simply refund the total owing to the customer. When doing taxes, submit the spreadsheets with the tax return and explain the process you used in a letter. CRA will work with it appropriately, and no need for investing in the changeover. There will be those who say retailers shouldn't have to do this, but if it a cost issue, this would resolve it.
