I couldn’t agree more! We want small businesses to thrive, yet we continue to locate shelters and services nearby. Those responsible for operating these shelters should be required to pay for community safety officer that works in the area to help keep the entire area safe and welcoming for everyone.
Didn't Council recently approve a car dealership on Queensway, despite staff recommendations to not approve and its inconsistency with the Official Community Plan and current zoning for the area? Hmm.
It’s shocking that even when victims are using crosswalks, the police still shift blame onto them by suggesting actions like "wear reflective clothing." The reality is simple: if a driver hits someone in a crosswalk, the driver is at fault and must be held accountable. A crosswalk is a clear signal to watch for pedestrians who have the right of way. The core issue is that too many drivers are distracted and fail to understand the serious responsibility of operating a vehicle capable of causing significant harm. This should serve as a wake-up call for the city to prioritize pedestrian safety. It’s long overdue for policies and infrastructure to put people first—not cars.
Mr. PG should be moved to Canada Games Plaza to better serve the local community and improve a vibrant public space. This relocation aligns with events like Foodie Fridays, Art Days, Touch a Truck Day and conferences, where attendees are more likely to engage with and share photos of Mr. PG. The current location on the highway caters mostly to transient visitors, who often just pass through or stop briefly. Mr. PG downtown will improve the experience for those actually spending time in the PG make the area more engaging for residents. Let’s make this move for the people who truly appreciate him!
Yes! This facility is incredible and truly showcases one of the unique aspects of life in Prince George. It’s a valuable and exciting feature that highlights Prince George as a vibrant northern city. I hope the city continues to embrace and enhance its exceptional winter offerings—these are key to attracting the skilled workforce we need and make it obvious that winter is fun and worth embracing.
I'm excited that our aquatic center is getting the necessary repairs. This facility benefits everyone—kids, adults, and seniors—by promoting health, fitness, and community engagement.A well-maintained aquatic center also helps attract and retain professionals (doctors/nurses) and their families, essential for our community’s growth. Investing in this facility now can prevent higher taxes in the future by supporting a thriving, growing population. Let's see the bigger picture: improving the aquatic center is an investment in our community’s long-term well-being and prosperity.
While I appreciate the frustration this is definitely the RCMP failing to protect the community in this case. Not the provincial or federal government. The RCMP should have responded and dealt with the situation appropriately. No excuse. Life threatening or public safety should be their responsibility. Why do I keep seeing cops sitting in their vehicles looking at their phones with nothing around? Aren’t they on ‘patrol’?
City council is adept at making amendments to the Official Community Plan, but lacks the resolve to implement it. What don't they understand about "As previously mentioned, the continued use of lands along Queensway for vehicle-oriented uses impedes the transition of this area to medium or high-density residential and mixed-use commercial development." With great access to transit, parks, downtown this should not be a lot to sell cars out of.
This is great! Motorists should contribute for leaving personal vehicles in public spaces. I hope the funds raised will go toward improving roads, transit, and sidewalks.
As College Heights continues to expand into areas frequented by moose, dog walkers may not always be aware that wildlife might perceive their pets as a threat. Taking your dog into moose territory can pose risks for both the animals and your pet. It's important for dog owners to understand their responsibility and the potential impact of bringing a barking (aggressive) animal into wildlife areas.
I was disappointed to learn that Fortis BC chose to locate its new office far from Prince George’s downtown, encouraging car dependency rather than supporting our city’s revitalization efforts. Our downtown core offers significant opportunities for development, with accessible transit options and numerous available lots in welcoming areas. By choosing a location downtown, Fortis BC could play an impactful role in creating a vibrant, accessible, and economically healthy community core. I hope future decisions consider the benefits of a central, community-focused presence.
So the guy stashing a Mr. PG prototype thinks he’s the authority on where the real Mr. PG belongs? Please. And PG is a "dead city" to only those who are afraid to look at anything but their own image. You need to get out more.
Very excited to see Prince George pushing forward with the Civic Core Plan. There is a real demand for performing arts in this town based on many arts and culture events. We just need a downtown core that better facilities. This plan is years in the making. The Sprunce kings have plenty of time to work with their partners and the legue to figure out how to play out of the CN Centre temporarily. Start having the conversations now. I am sure there are some smart people who can figure out how to handle a temporary disruption.
Great to hear that density is a priority! Sustainable growth that minimizes the burden on existing taxpayers is crucial, and it's encouraging to know it will shape policy decisions.
I can accept this property tax increase, especially when we’re talking about the increasing need for crucial investments and maintenance for our city. I wonder how many people won’t even flinch at the 33% increase in their Netflix subscription. People’s priorities are really out of whack these days. We should be investing in the city we rely on.
The punishment isn’t enough. Take dangerous drivers off the road and design streets that enforce slower speeds. Why are road engineers the only ones prioritizing convenience over safety? No other engineers would be allowed to create something this dangerous.
Excited to see PG advancing the Civic Core Plan! There’s strong demand for performing arts here, as shown by events like PG Dance Fest, The Symphony, and Cold Snap. PG is BC’s northern hub, and we need a downtown that supports small business, social connection, and the arts. The Spruce Kings and BCHL have plenty of time to start conversations and plan around a temporary move to the CN Centre while the city's taxpayers build them a better facility.
It’s disappointing to see a once-accessible green space turned into yet another parking lot. The regional district should be required to establish a new park within the city to compensate for the loss.
Thank you to all the speakers! Really appreciate you bringing those important issues forward. I hope the City continues to focus on thoughtful densification while protecting our remaining green spaces. If we keep building out, we’ll end up driving through endless urban sprawl just to find a bit of nature. Let’s make sure people can still connect with nature by walking or biking and not just by getting in a car.
