VIDEO: Mark Carney delivered a speech heard round the world — now what?

I never thought I'd say this, but I'll work to elect a Liberal majority come next election. If ever there was a time when we needed EVERYONE pulling together, this is it.

Great "exposé". Now, how about giving the same treatment to the Liberals and NDP?

Hey Margalo. Are you misspelling your name - Mar Lago? I suspect you're a die hard PP fan and nothing will be good enough for you unless it comes out of PP's mouth.

I totally agree with the cancellation of the contract, but it will delay getting this much-needed service to the North. It'll be interesting to see how greedy Canadian providers get in bidding to fill this need.

And, once again, the US is a laughing stock. You have to wonder what else Trudeau traded away to prevent an unpleasant situation while his party is in the midst of playing musical chairs, trying to pick a new leader. Heavens, why are they picking a new leader when Trudeau is so powerful that he can change the direction of North America's economy with two phone calls?

When I watched him "perform" at his father's funeral, I feared for what might come next. And, yup, the youngins drank the Kool Aid. Elected the drama teacher to be the country's prime minister. Join hands, sing Kumbaya. It will get better soon (I vote).

I haven't read much about a backlash, but thanks for sharing your take on his speech. You seem to have an inside track on what Quebeckers think about everything. For example, I didn't know 'sovereignty" was a word reserved for Quebec's exclusive use. Are you sure about that?

The NDP's support may be a moot point. If enough PCs cross the floor, it won't matter. If I were a PC MP, I might be tempted to join the Liberals, too. I don't think there's one MP in Ottawa (certainly not Pierre Poilievre) who could navigate the challenges Canada is facing -- Trump's protectionism, China, Russia.... Carney fully understands our economy and how it fits into the global picture. I honestly believe he is the only one who has a chance of turning our fortunes around.Maybe, just for now, we need to forget which political party we wanted to win the last election and get behind the one that did, albeit as a minority. If there was ever a time to come together in order to survive and thrive, it's now. Isn't it?

Excuse me. I am not lazy. I am creative, chatty, focused on the task at hand, and unappreciative of comments by people who don't know what they're talking about.

I disagree with your assessment. With Trump in power for about the same length of term as a provincial government, I think it's a good idea to hear from all party leaders about their plans to represent Ontarians at the table. Our economy is among those that will be hit hardest by tariffs and I don't think we can count on Trudeau to say anything meaningful between now and the federal election, whenever that is. He says we will hit back hard, but yesterday's news suggests it will be a weak-kneed approach.Of course, there will be other issues during the campaign -- education, health care, long term care, and housing for example. It will be good to hear what all parties have planned if they win the election. Then we can figure out if we can afford to implement their dreams. The Liberals and NDP will have a field day blaming the PCs for all our woes, but I doubt they have a clue how to fix the problems without throwing money at it - everyone's favourite passtime.

Thanks for the grammar lesson, Gruntfutak. In the north we tend not to correct the work of others lest we be found guilty of some other transgression.

I've listened to the original Reagan speech from 1987. Ontario's anti-tariff ad is a master class in boiling down a five minute speech into one minute. Nothing of the essence of Reagan's speech is misrepresented, and the Reagan Foundation should be ashamed for claiming otherwise. Congratulations to the editor of the ad.It will be interesting to see how the Republican voter base reacts to the ad and how Reagan accurately predicted the outcome of imposing tariffs, as evidenced by the current state of affairs worldwide.

Hey, Real EI. I didn't miss it. The speech in 1987 was related to the angst of Americans about their skirmish with Japan. And in that instance, there was merit in the tariffs. But the essence of his speech - did you miss that part of my comment? - was that tariffs are not a good approach to trade. Are you an Orange Man Lover, and will pick apart anything that suggests Trump is a problem?

Why are Soo taxpayers subsidizing the provincial government? And why is the government giving away parking spaces to their staff? If the city refused to extend the terms of the lease and ran the lot as one with a monthly fee, would these 13 vehicle owners pay or move to another free lot somewhere (I don't think they exist). The city must have too much cash so they can forego the revenue generated by parking lots like this.

50.2% is not strong support. Fix your headline!

I don't doubt it, NoMore. But that's not my point. If the opposition forces an election, what do you think the outcome will be? A government by any other party will be hard-pressed to chart a course forward. The last 10 years of scandal and excess has landed us where we are today. A civil service that has grown by 100K in 10 years! Yes, Carney is a Liberal like Trudeau. The difference is that Trudeau was a drama teacher, now having a fling with an entertainer. What did he know about leadership or the economy. I have never voted Liberal before, but with a competent leader like Carney, I now have a reason.A strong economy will improve our standard of living. Spending taxpayer dollars to provide salaries to civil servants is not helping the economy. Investing in infrastructure, defense, and housing will create skilled private sector jobs for the younger generation and those who are currently unemployed. The budget is attempting to do that.

Where do you get your information? What makes you think this MP will get anything other than a desk?

People keep referring to the government as though it has bottomless pots of money. But those pots of money are your tax dollars - and they aren't bottomless!

You have a very dim view of the education system. "Trapping" kids in schools? "Stuck learning their useless knowledge"?

I got $5. I participate in all the polling, when I meet the criteria. It's a great way to spend 20 minutes, get a few things off my chest, and get a few bucks for my troubles.
