City staff recommending council say no to Hart U-Haul rental

A little heavy handed by the city.I'm not sure why she is so set on keeping a vacant lot of she can't afford it though. The logical solution would be to sell it. Property value has increased significantly in the area. If the decision doesn't go her way, and If she's concerned about money, selling an asset she had never actually used until very recently seems reasonable.

What a ridiculous way to spend money. Why does a building need a birthday party?

Granting peace officer status to private employees of private corporations is ridiculous and problematic. CN should contract police additional police work to local/provincial/federal policing bodies if they need service beyond what is already provided. Otherwise, why not let every corporation have a police force? I'd love to see people pulled over by Wal-Mart PD.

Everyone is on here blaming the NDP. Do you really think that the conservative push to tier and/or privatize our healthcare system will reduce violence against healthcare staff? Conservative healthcare stances would result in the same amount of violence, only the nurses would likely have less success at the bargaining table, and a reduction in job security as we parceled off our public healthcare system to the American for-profit corporations that artificially inflate the cost of all services.

Polillo and Bennett were school board trustees at the messiest time in SD57 history. Now they're voting for the library to receive a lower increase than initially planned for. People wonder why our kids have low literacy rates? Don't blame SOGI, blame the same politicians that care more about themselves than the organizations they are supposed to be governing.

They have reduced an enrollment driven counselling position, money to the DPAC, and secretarial/administrative support positions, and vice-principal time. These are all things that will be felt at the school level. According to the 2021-2022 District 57 SOFI, there were 52 administrators in the district earning over $130,000 including 3 who earned well over $200,000.The only administrator cuts were partial cuts to VP positions (no VP's are in the $130,000+ bracket) and the director of indigenous education (targeted funding for indigenous students generates literally millions of dollars a year for the district). It's neat how the cuts landed on everyone except the highest earners.

Rosco P.The air ambulances are used to transport patients longer distances at faster speeds. For example, transporting someone who needs emergency surgery that is only offered in the lower mainland. Helicopter rescue is absolutely necessary, but it is a different service completely.

Teachers bargained for more than a year to get 12% over 4 years. School board trustees had a meeting and granted themselves more than 23% that isn't paced out over multiple years. Great governance...

Wow infrastructure, old and new, in Prince George falls apart at an alarming pace. It is becoming more and more clear that neglect and a lack of preventative maintenance are issues in town. I'd love to see the list of problems with the pool and look at the service history of the items that need such extensive repairs/replacement. This is not an old facility. Clearly it was poorly built, poorly maintained, or both.

This is a sad day for football in PG. They dismissed one of the strongest coaches in recent CJFL history and they are now relying on a GM that struggled to successfully run a local highschool football program (a program that is now defunct). Several long-term Kodiaks players, coaches, and community stakeholders have voiced their support for Boreham through their social media accounts. I cannot imagine a scenario where a solid and reputable coach would be willing to step into an environment that clearly has no regard for ongoing success and support for its athletes and staff.

@BGeez. I can't tell if your microaggression is intentional racism, of if you're just trying to be funny. Either way, was it necessary?

Taxes for healthcare are sensible. Nobody likes to to pay them, but they are a lot cheaper than paying massive monthly insurance premiums to a private company that will do anything they can to void you coverage. Don't like insurance companies? That's okay, you could choose to pay piecemeal for health care at artificially raised prices. I'm not saying all our taxes are good taxes, but publicly funded healthcare is far better than the alternative.

Chest RockUwell your comment is classless. I suspect that you are among the first to spew dissatisfaction with the state of downtown and the addiction epidemic. It makes no sense that you would insult someone that is legitimately trying to be proactive about mental health issues.

Unfortunately, fewer international students at a school like CNC does not equate to more domestic students. Smaller and colleges and universities rarely operate at capacity even with international students. All governing parties federally, and provincially, let the international tuition situation spiral out of control over the last couple of decades. As a result, our public institutions have spent years building infrastructure, staffing, and programming that is not sustainable with the standard domestic tuition rate. This problem is the result of our governments trying to build strong institutions while minimizing the amount of public money they would need to shell out. Our post-sec educational institutions will be suffering because of years of poor political oversight and policy, rather than their own ineptitude.

@relitybitesComplaining about paying for coffee while you gamble your money away is comical.

This is a sad announcement. Every head coach in franchise history has had CFL playing experience, a diverse coaching background, and strong connections around the country. The new coach struggled to effectively operate a local high school program and has very limited coaching experience at higher levels of football. Why do they think it is appropriate to hand him the reigns?

The UBCM is pretty common for mayor and council all over the province and it makes sense for them to go; however, I am curious why the cost varied so significantly between the council members who attended. Why is one council member entitled to an expenditure of 12-13 % higher than the next highest? Is that difference reasonably accounted for?

Ironic that you say "to you just can't make this up", because you definitely just made that up. International students do not receive government funding, and they pay significantly higher tuition. This is why the reduction in international student is resulting in most of our post secondary institutions making cuts since the reductions in international students over the last 18 months. International students have subsidized our schools for years.
@BGeezDo you actually think that everyone who lives in poverty is and addict and criminal? Go to a senior's centre or a school. You will quickly realize that poverty and need stretch far beyond what you see downtown.

This is a sad situation. SD57 cut a lot of positions last year to get to make their budget. So we end up with cut positions AND positions that were not filled. The ones who suffer the most from this will always be the students
