Police investigating serious incident on Cumberland Street

Many of the street lights are very dim in town. Some only have lights on one side of the road and its difficult to even see the lanes in the dark let alone a person walking. Perhaps the reasons for these accidents should be looked into and a prevention plan put in place.

I attended a wedding at the Delta hotel and had to pay for parking for the entire evening which wasnt cheap, but ALSO had to pay over $30 to park my vehicle overnight because I took an uber home. In addition to paying for a wedding gift and outfit, had a nice $60 parking cost as well. Ridiculus!

probably most of these individuals were homeless as a result of their addictions

It is unfair to favour those who have missed or overdue rent payments over landlords. Many landlords rent out their homes and properties to help pay their monthly mortgage and other bills. A missed months rent could potentially put the landlord into arrears, not to mention the impact of several missed payments. That is enough to destroy credit and also lose their homes. Majority of landlords are just regular people with regular income also trying to make ends meet. Both landlord and tenant should be treated equally, as both could end up homeless and living on the street.

this also place financial strain on parents as well. Tuition is far too expensive and should be free in Canada.

That looks too nice to be a homeless encampment. I would live there if it meant no bills. How do I get on the list too?

How about ask for input from residents who have always lived here. Tourist don't want to come here again when the roads are in poor condition, theres garbage floating around all over, traffic lights every 5 feet on all main roads, poor parking lot conditions and congested entries/exits, minimal inventory in stock anywhere you shop, minimal places to shop, and nothing to do here besides eat or go to the gym. Get some big spas here, a theme park or giant water park, more big box stores, a better central location with shoppjng area/coffee shops/boutiques all in one area not across town all over. Biggest issue is having to drive to every corner of the city when shopping to get to stores vs all in one area. Widen all the main streets to have a bus lane and/or right turning lane to like every other city does to keep traffic flowing. Lastly, do something about the garbage floating around and the people standing at corners asking for money.

I'm sorry but how could landlords be responsible for illegal drug activity going on in the units when this is something police can't even stop from happening? Even if they tried to stop it, reported it, and say the tenant was charged/arrested for it. Then what? They either return to living where they were and continue doing the same, or are evicted and out on the street to increase the homeless population. While I agree many landlords could be doing much more to help the situations in some rentals, unless the drug and homeless epidemics are tackled...this is absolutely unfair to any landlord.

A consultant? Really? What a waste of funds. Why does the city need to hire a consultant for everything? I'm sure they have at least one person already working for the city with a degree. Come on now.

The facts are......tourists who would actually utilize and visit these places don't want to visit TBay because of the condition of the roads, the lack of shopping, lack of things to do in the city, poor traffic conditions, and an abundance of homeless people, criminals and addicts hanging out in the open making them feel unsafe. Those who have alot of money to spend generally have nice vehicles and nice cars they don't want to destroy on our roads so they avoid coming here. Thats just how it is. In order to acheive C, you need to first address and correct A and B. Its not a scientific formula its common sense.

Glad to see you all putting your feet down and advocating for change!

You may end up with a nice population of senior citizens wanting to move in there instead. Decent area, $100 a month,a landlord, no maintenance required, signed contract...sounds more affordable than LTC.

Regardless of who owns or runs this place there should be a designated grounds person to maintain these places. Where is that person or persons?

Next stop, hiring a consultant to test out and replace all the toilets too.

Are you going to take your own advice and switch to electronic invoices for our water and tax bills?

Why did they reject the kam river site where tent city currently is? I dont believe they ever explained why this site wouldnt work other than cost factors. However, other chosen locations also had the same issue. Anyone know?

Even if this place made good money once operating, I'll bet that money will go into funding another wasted project the city has planned, and then say they need new revenue stream (e.g. increase parking fees across town, public park use fees, other usage fees, increase our taxes) to keep this place operating.

This is why I don't bother to attend anything in this city anymore. I'm better off going out of town and walking near a nice shopping centre which has everything and more than 1 Tbay city event would have, but can probably spend less money and no parking fees.

Instead of using our tax dollars to build some glamorous waterfront, or pay for a shelter village...how about spend our money wisely and use our tax dollars to pay for 100% of these pipework repairs on residents properties, or there will be more people in tent city pretty soon because having to fork out $5000 or $10000 (loan or not) to many could be a difference of being homeless or not!
