The phrase 'catch and release' is right wing ignorance that is no better than the tough on crime idiocy reborn. Read this guys latest book: https://benjaminperrin.ca/
You like bullies? And liars? He's distracting and spreading disinformation. Through the powers of delegation that harper forced through (using prorogation and omnibus bills) to destroy the federal EA process (and JT refused to fix), the provinces have pretty much full control over the EA process. No fed involvement here at all in the decision making processes. Fraud also killed all renewables projects as soon as he came to office, setting Ontario back two decades. All his talk about jumping on bulldozers is little more than political rhetoric. There is no duplication and the province has the same obligations to consult as everyone else.
I'm not so sure this is misinformation. All constitutional law aside (isn't the mayor a lawyer?), if the mayor didn't want to expose his biases, he should first have questioned why the king is not commenting rather than flail out and attack the king (ad hominem). Attacking the king instead of the legal basis of his actions is merely a logical fallacy, another fact a lawyer should understand. Is the mayors opinion an honest failure of logic and misinderstandings of law, or a deliberate attempt to shape public discourse to his benefit? I'm betting on the latter based on his pre-existing biases. This is how disinformation spreads.
Why doesn't Canada turn this around? The US would greatly benefit from social programs such as healthcare, education and gun laws (and proper English spelling and use of international measurement system, etc). As a direct result, so too would Canada benefit from the US adopting those programs. So in the nature of neighbourly helping, doesn't it make far more sense for Canada to annex the US? Or, in the polite Canadian way, ask if the US would like to become the 14th Province/territory of Canada? I mean, 13 is such an uncomfortable number anyways.
There needs to be some justification for this bridge to remain. No viable justification other than convenience and dislike of change has been presented. It certainly isn't a social benefit, and clearly is a social cost. Comparing this bridge to the downtown plaza is comparing a social bad to a social good. It all comes down to a temper tantrum because someone is experiencing cognitive dissonance about their motoring fantasies in the era of fiscal realities.
IKR? Cycling lanes confuse drivers into believing that they can crowd out cyclists when in fact a cycling lane is part of the through lane and requires an overtaking vehicle to yield "no less than half the roadway" to pass (i.e. a full lane) as tested in case law. Cycling lanes are a good way to compromise the safety of cyclists who are supposed to be given a full lane AND no less than one metre under the Highway Traffic Act. But not sure what your comment has to do with the mayors musings.
Uninformed fatalist? Previous climate changes have occurred over millions of years. The current crisis is decades old. The only fingerprint on that is human activity.
You misunderstand the role of structural factors in behaviour and decision making. By your same argument you should drive 30 in a 50 zone. Try it. See what happens. Then go back and tell the teachers and parents to enforce rules.
Rex Murphy - and please let's just forget the O&G mouthpiece - was perpetuating slogans to try and make his deniers case, but actually backfired as climate science has always shown how denialism of climate change and continued fossil fuel burning is merely "ideology and wishful thinking".
Cats are a key vector for the spread of toxoplasmosis. This commonly occurs when a cat defecates in a sandy area, often where children play, and then those children transmit the disease to pregnant women or the mothers themself contract the disease from the sand directly. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to T. Cats should not roam outside - if they are outside, they need to be leashed. https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/cornell-feline-health-center/health-information/feline-health-topics/toxoplasmosis-cats
Shocking how pacified people are. "When the CCTV cameras were announced in October, Sault Police said the initiative will enhance public safety and prevent criminal activity." No, they won't, they can't and there's no real evidence to suggest they reduce crime, absolutely can't prevent crime, and no evidence to suggest they increase public safety. They can be used to profile people, share personal data, shape behaviour, fabricate crimes, and oppress public freedom by creating a chill factor. The 'nothing to hide' argument, like the use of surveillance, is specious, if not also disinformation. These cameras, as invasive as they are, may help 'identify' a suspect AFTER a crime, but there's no evidence to suggest they reduce crime. They may displace crime, but they don't even act as a deterrent.
dailywalk: Whoever 'they' are, they would be correct. Warmer global average temperatures have warmed the surface temperature of Lake Superior (all great lakes). Superior is one of the fastest warming on the planet, being in the Northern latitudes and a massive natural heat sink. Less frozen surface means more evapotranspiration. The result is greater precipitation. Counterintuitively, colder winter temperatures - which also mean the above precipitation falls as snow in the winter - is the result of climate change too as global climate heating shifts the patterns of Rossby waves that affect the jet stream, delivering longer hot and cold spells in the summer and winter respectively. Attribution science also links the increased snowfall and extended colder than average temperatures, as with many other extreme weather events, to climate change. These effects were predicted in the 90's. As Cathy says, she saw the future and the future is today.
Why is Shoemaker spending our tax dollars worrying about other politician’s jobs instead of municipal issues? In preparation for a run for the Conservatives in the federal election?
Epic? Doesn't epic usually mean extraordinary? In what way will this be epic? More congestion at taxpayers expense, more noise and pollution, more traffic...where does 'epic' come in to play?
It's not so much what but how long. Those changes in the past were over millions, even hundreds of millions of years. Our climate crisis is unfolding over decades.
Can anyone point to any evidence that there is an issue? We keep hearing about human trafficking, illegal drugs, "potential threats" to "the integrity of our shared maritime waterway" and "illegal cross-border activity" and the need to "enhance the safety and security of both nations". You would think that after such significant risks for decades, there would be at least one case that has played out in court. Where are the crimes and statistics to show there is an issue? Or are all these agencies just totally ineffective and simply never been able to catch anyone, although somehow they know criminals are out there? We know the pollution is criminal it's so bad because they have tested the waters and identified the sources of pollutants, but no one seems to catch the polluters either.
