NIMBYism at its finest! Administrations' argument is weak, to put it nicely. All those folks crying for "something to be done" need to do better! Programs like this have proven success should be supported. And yes, I do live in the neighborhood.
The consistent corruption of upper level administration at city hall leaves no option for safely reporting unacceptable behavior. To ensure an honest review, reports should be to an external entity.
Did you know at the young age of 16 your child can be fully qualified to ensure the safety of pool patrons from drowning or other health emergencies which may occur such as seizure, heart attack, diabetic complications, spinal injury etc. Now, they are supposed to monitor and maintain building security without support from the RCMP or supervisory/management staff that clock out at 5pm. Enough already!
Sampson's approach is more focused on personal positioning than on achieving meaningful outcomes. The emphasis on introducing a separate notice of motion, rather than working collaboratively with the Mayor for immediate assistance for seniors, gives the impression that optics are being prioritized over the needs of the community and spreading a little Christmas cheer.
Planning was advised over a year ago of a u-haul business operating at this address and did nothing so how important can it be? Perhaps a response is dependent on whom you know?
Shame on the members of council refusing to look for solutions that serve the public. Typical bait and switch then attack anyone that stands up or questions the administrative caucus.
I own a modest home and honestly have no complaints about the property tax bill but I do think those dollars could be better spent with fewer managers/supervisors and more worker where needed.
The city needs to start doing something to bring the 4 and 6 plexes into compliance with the building code. Too many people are living in unsafe and unacceptable situations.
That’s not how this is supposed to work. Staff should be providing independent recommendations, not echoing the views of council members who already backed this idea. If that line is being blurred, that’s a serious problem.
