"The clinic advised drug users to take their drugs to Path 525 for testing before ingesting." The amount of enabling of drug users we offer in Canada is nauseating.
The TV report on this story stated that this was supposed to be a low income housing project but will now, at least in part, be housing for the mentally ill and drug addicts. I believe that is what the real issue is and I don't blame the residents for being concerned.
So 44% are couples. You're telling me that 2 incomes would not be enough to pay rent? But I guess in order to have incomes, you first need to look for jobs.
I have a better idea. Let’s not give any subsidies to anything. Let the best products and ideas win the day, without government picking winners and losers.
The more we have enabled this lifestyle, the worse things have become. It's plain as day that the "human rights" approach has had catastrophic consequences. It's time for a common sense tough love approach to the problem. I hope mayors with make the right choices.
We can't get rid of this Liberal/NDP government fast enough. I sincerely hope both Powlowski and Hajdu will be voted out, if the latter even runs again. After all, her gold plated pension is already secure.
Absolutely disgusting! I don't think anyone on council has the taxpayer's best interests at heart. Every year they run the city deeper and deeper into the ground, burdening us under crushing debt and taxes ... and it's all because they can't stomach having the private sector do a project like the soccerplex at no cost to taxpayers. This empire building is sickening.
We have not gone to any restaurants in the area since the change was announced. We used frequently meet friends after work. Get there at 5:30, put a bit of money in the meter to cover you until 6:00pm and you're good. Now, with free parking not kicking in until 9:00pm, we don't want the headache or added cost. Plain and simple.
Once again, productive citizens are basically told to shut up and pay the bill, so the lifestyle of those who don't contribute can be enabled. All because our politicians don't care about decent, hardworking citizens. It's wrong, what the city is doing. Very, very wrong.
Comparing licensed gun owners (who are subjected to daily background checks from the RCMP) to people in tent cities, 39% of whom, according to the point in time count, are drug addicts, is quite offensive. My guns have never hurt anyone and I contribute much more than I take out of the system. This was an extremely poor analogy by an MP who, hopefully, will not be reelected.
Ever since we started trying the “human rights” approach, things have gotten exponentially worse. We have so many agencies whose existence depends on the status quo or things getting even more unacceptable. Given we have so many agencies and policies which enable this mess, there is no lack of resources, just a misallocation of those resources.
I watched the entire thing live. It was a completely useless, non informative press conference. I know they can’t give complete details, but if TBPS wants to gain trust and be transparent, some information would have been welcome. Instead, it was all platitudes and nothing informative.
Raising awareness? I wonder how many drug users will become "aware" of the fact that they gamble with their life every time they inject themselves. They already know it and they do it anyway. It would make much more sense to totally and completely end all enabling measures.
